Actress CHRISTINA RICCI was stunned when she spoke to U.S. politicians as an activist for rape victims - because she never expected her celebrity status would get them to listen.
The 28-year-old became an activist for Tori Amos-founded organisation RAINN (The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) after the sexually-charged marketing campaign for her film Black Snake Moan launched in 2006.
But Ricci admits she was reluctant to speak up, fearing she would just embarrass herself.
She says, "When I was invited to speak to members of Congress I was like, ‘Uh, are you sure? I might say something stupid.’ "To me, Washington D.C. always seemed like a place you could never get into.
But it’s surprisingly accessible. You can actually talk to the people who govern and write legislation - and they responded." And Ricci has continued her fight, urging celebrities and civilians to make more of an effort by donating more than their cash.
She adds, "In the beginning a lot of my support was just financial - I think it’s important that a certain percentage of everything you make goes to charity, any charity. But you should also give your time - you can pick your corner of the world and give it your time."

BRITNEY SPEARS’ new album reportedly features an ode to her paparazzo ex-boyfriend ADNAN GHALIB.
The couple ended its controversial and tumultuous romance earlier this year (08), but sources close to the single pop princess claim she is still "crazy about" the British photographer, and sends a message to him in the lyrics to Mmm Papi, which features on her comeback LP Circus.
Spears sings, "You love it when I’m freaking out/Things get rough and there’s no doubt/You will always be there for me." Spears’ songwriting partner Nicole Morier tells Us Weekly magazine, "It’s about someone I’m sure you can guess." The magazine’s source adds, "It’s a gift to him (Ghalib). She is crazy for him."

Producers of KIEFER SUTHERLAND’s hit drama 24 are urging fans to tune into their forthcoming made-for-TV movie when it finally airs - because a big screen outing for the action franchise will all depend on its ratings.
Sutherland returns to his role as federal agent Jack Bauer in 24: Redemption, a prequel to the upcoming seventh season of the show which returns to U.S. TV in January (09).
And executive producer Howard Gordon is praying audiences stay in to watch the TV film.
He tells the New York Post, "I would look at (the TV movie) as a dry run for a theatrical release.
"Depending on how well the DVD sells, and how high the ratings are, I think that would be an indicator to the feature film department about what the business prospects for a potential film might be.
"We really did this on a television budget (and) it looks spectacular." The TV movie is scheduled to air on Sunday (23Nov08).

Australian movie star HUGH JACKMAN is infuriated and exhausted with the gay rumours that have plagued him throughout his career.
Speculation about the 40-year-old’s sexuality reached a peak when he starred as gay entertainer Peter Allen in a Broadway production of The Boy from Oz when his actress wife Deborra-Lee Furness took on the role of rumour-crusher.
Jackman says, "Debs saw the show about 50 times. She said the most infuriating times would be in the bathroom because all she’d hear is, ‘Is he or isn’t he gay?… I don’t know, he’s married… Oh, who cares, I’m sure he’s gay.’ And she used to call out from the stall, ‘He’s not gay. JESSICA SIMPSON has hailed boyfriend TONY ROMO as the calming influence in her life - describing the American football star as the "whole package".
The singer/actress has been dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Romo since last November (07) - and Simpson is still gushing over the sportsman a year into their relationship.

Supermodel HEIDI KLUM is still enjoying her "honeymoon period" with singer husband SEAL - three years after they first wed.
The couple married in 2005 and has two children together - Henry, three, and one-year-old Johan - as well as Klum’s four-year-old daughter Leni from a previous relationship.
Klum and Seal renew their vows every year - and the Project Runway host admits she still gets butterflies when she wakes up next to her husband.
She tells In Style Magazine, "Sometimes I lie in bed and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, there’s Seal lying next to me. What’s he doing here?’ I get a smile on my face immediately." And the couple don’t have to work hard at maintaining their relationship because they love each other’s company so much.

Actress WINONA RYDER was hospitalised in London on Wednesday (19Nov08) suffering from a mystery illness, after arriving in the city on a transatlantic flight.
The 37-year-old was taken to a west London hospital "as a precaution" after jetting in from Los Angeles.
British Airways officials reportedly requested priority landing because a female passenger "required medical attention".
A spokesperson for the airline says, "Our cabin crew looked after the female passenger as much as they could onboard and our passenger services staff also accompanied her to the local hospital. We wish her well." She has since been released, although details of her illness remain unknown.
Ryder’s spokesperson Mara Buxbaum adds, "She’s fine now."

Singer/actress MILEY CYRUS has received some timely advice about sustaining her career - from her dad BILLY RAY.
The Hannah Montana star had been working from a young age before she landed the starring role in the Disney franchise - a part that she feels "very fortunate" to have received.
And her musician father is adamant that having fun is the key to the teenager enjoying a long career in the showbiz industry.

PUSSYCAT DOLLS star NICOLE SCHERZINGER was shocked when she first saw the group’s raunchy stage clothes - because she comes from a conservative, church-going background.
The girl group shot to stardom as a burlesque group and when the singer joined the line-up in 2003, she was horrified at the garments she was presented with to wear for shows.
Scherzinger tells British chat show Loose Women, "I come from a really conservative family; my grandfather’s a priest and I go to church a couple of times a week. I still do.
"But I auditioned with a buttoned up shirt and some trouser slacks I got at (clothes store) Forever 21. I was super conservative so I was kind of scared when I saw the costumes when I first joined the group." Despite the provocative clothes the group wears for their performances, Scherzinger insists they are a shining example for girls who look to them as role models.
She adds, "We try to lead by example in our lives with trying to stay healthy, trying to stay out of the stuff that you can get lost in. It’s about going after your dream and fulfilling that and working really hard to achieve that."

SIMON COWELL has hit out at SIMPLY RED star MICK HUCKNALL - branding him the most "repulsive celebrity" he’s ever met.
Simply Red frontman Hucknall sparked a war of words with Cowell earlier this year (08), when he referred to the TV personality as "Slimy Cowell" and slammed reality shows like his American Idol, insisting they were ruining the music industry.

The pilot of TRAVIS BARKER and ADAM ‘DJ AM’ GOLDSTEIN’s doomed plane warned air traffic controllers the jet did not have enough runway before take-off, according to new reports.
The former Blink-182 star and Goldstein were left with second and third degree burns following the September (08) crash in South Carolina, which killed the pilot, co-pilot and two of the musicians’ close friends.
Pilot Sarah Lemmon’s words are the last captured on newly released cockpit recordings, released on Tuesday (18Nov08).
Controllers can also be heard on the tape, scrambling to call emergency personnel and divert other planes as the jet burst into flames.
Co-pilot James Bland says on the eerie recordings, "Roll the equipment, we’re going off the end." A controller directs another pilot, "We’ve had an emergency, just fly straight ahead," prompting the pilot to report, "We see it down there. It doesn’t look good." Earlier recordings suggested a tyre had blown before take-off, but company officials have said they are cooperating with the investigation into the crash.
Barker and Goldstein have returned to work following treatment for the burns they suffered in the crash. They are both expected to make a full recovery.

Singer ENRIQUE IGLESIAS has been kicked out of his Florida home by girlfriend ANNA KOURNIKOVA - after a row over his pet dogs.
The Hero hitmaker, who has been dating the former tennis star for six years, moved out of the house they share in Miami after a heated argument over the pooches.
But the Spanish hunk insists the pair is still together - and says he will move back in as soon as Russian Kournikova agrees.

KELLY OSBOURNE will marry her fiancee LUKE WORRELL in the U.K. early next year (09).

After agonising over a list of eligible, high profile film stars, musicians and athletes, editors at the magazine named the 40-year-old its number one of 2008.
Jackman succeeds last year’s (07) top man Matt Damon, and George Clooney who took the title the year before (06).
In a special edition of the weekly magazine, there were honourable mentions for handsome contenders Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Seal, Robert Downey Jr., Will Smith, Christian Bale and David Beckham.
Potential future title holders Kevin Jonas, Bow Wow and Jessie McCarthy were also mentioned among People’s Men of the Year.
Meanwhile, Jackman has responded modestly to news of his sexy status: "My wife (Deborra-Lee Furness) said, ‘I could have told them that two years ago,’ Then she said, ‘Obviously Brad Pitt wasn’t available this year.’"

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s ex-wife HEATHER MILLS has made complaints against three U.K. national newspapers - for inaccurate reporting, invasion of privacy and harassment.
Mills was heavily criticised in the press for her conduct during her messy divorce from the former Beatle - in which she won a settlement of $38 million (£24.3 million).
And the ex-glamour model has now asked the U.K. media’s governing body, the Press Complaints Commission, to investigate the Daily Express, Daily Mail and The Sun over stories the newspapers have published about her.
She has also complained to the PCC about the conduct of the free local newspaper London Lite.
The PCC will investigate her claims and the newspapers could face a reprimand if the allegations are proved.
