WHOOPI GOLDBERG is taking her hit film SISTER ACT to the stage - she has written a musical version of the movie.
The Oscar-winner received critical acclaim for her part as singer-turned-nun Deloris Van Cartier in the 1992 film.
Now she has developed a stage version of the story, which will open in London next year (09) - but insists she will not be reprising the role.
Goldberg tells the London Evening Standard, "I’m so excited about this. It feels right to bring back Sister Act. But we can’t do it the way it was done in the film.
"It’s going to be really, really spectacular and we are looking to breathe new life into the piece. I know London has a lot of musicals - but you can’t beat singing nuns on stage… (The film) was nearly 20 years ago and it’s time for someone equally fantastic to take the role of Deloris. We are looking at a couple of girls at the moment and I know whoever gets the part will be sensational."

W star JOSH BROLIN has waded into the Proposition 8 row - he is furious at the decision to ban gay marriages in California.
Same-sex unions were legalised in the state in May (08), but the legislation was reversed early this month (04Nov08) when the majority of voters backed the bill to reintroduce the ban.
And Brolin has revealed his anger at the ban - blasting those who voted in favour of Proposition 8.
He says, "Who gives a s***! Who cares!… Doesn’t mean (gay and lesbian people) are going to stop kissing in the streets, just cause they can’t get married. And that’s the issue for the religious, that it’s visible and it’s always going to be visible, it ain’t going to go away.
"Gay life is more mainstream, but at the same time, things like this happen and you go, ‘You got to be kidding me!’ especially in California… I think it’s awful, but I understand it, everybody has their perspective."

JENNIFER HUDSON has spoken out for the first time since her mother, brother and nephew were murdered - thanking the public for their support.
Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason, were shot dead at their home in Chicago, Illinois on 24 October (08). The body of her seven-year-old nephew, Julian King, was found in an abandoned car three days later.
Now the Oscar-winning Dreamgirls star has used her MySpace blog to post a message of thanks to all those who have expressed their sympathy since the horrific killings.
Hudson writes, "I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time… My sister and I take great comfort and strength from your love and concern."

Australian singer NATALIE IMBRUGLIA has become the latest celebrity to strip off for an anti-fur campaign.
The Torn hitmaker has posed for a new advert for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), urging consumers against buying any clothes made from animal pelts.
The singer is seen covering her breasts with a live rabbit, called Topsy.
Imbruglia says, "There is no kind way to rip the skin off animals’ backs.
Anyone who wears any fur shares the blame for the torture and gruesome deaths of millions of animals each year." An overzealous music fan has been arrested after he jumped on stage during a PAPA ROACH gig in Connecticut.
The rockers were performing in Uncasville, Connecticut on Wednesday (12Nov08) night, when Benjamin Sostre, 20, climbed onto the stage and was immediately grabbed by the band’s security team.
As he was being escorted away, he turned and dived back into the crowd pulling one of the security guards with him, according to Blabbermouth.net.
Sostre was arrested and charged with breach of the peace. He was released on a $500 (£340) bond and ordered to appear at Norwich Superior Court on 4 December (08).

Rapper KANYE WEST has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a photographer as he was leaving a nightclub in Newcastle, England.
The hip-hop star is said to have been involved in a scuffle with the paparazzi as he exited the Tup Tup club in the early hours of Friday (14Nov08) morning.
Photographer Terry Blackburn claimed to have suffered a cut face and bruising after West allegedly pushed his camera into his face.
Police later arrived at West’s hotel in nearby Gateshead and detained him on assault charges.
However, after being quizzed by cops, the star was subsequently released without charge.
The Stronger hitmaker and his assistant were arrested over a similar incident at Los Angeles’ LAX airport in September (08). The pair was charged with felony vandalism after reportedly smashing a snapper’s camera, but the charges were later dropped by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

MICHAEL JACKSON’s former U.K. bodyguard is carving out a new film career for himself - as a movie tough guy.
Matt Fiddes is set to make his debut in new picture Counter-Blow and he has just signed on to play a Viking commander in historical epic 1066.
The British movie, which will star Oliver actor Mark Lester as King Harold, will start shooting in Wales early in 2009.
Fiddes will play King Hardrada’s right-hand man in the Battle of Hastings.

Singer CHRISTINA AGUILERA is standing up for gay rights - insisting homosexual couples should be given the freedom to marry.
Same-sex marriages were legalised in California in May (08), but the legislation was reversed last week (04Nov08) when the majority of voters backed Proposition 8, a bill to reintroduce the ban.
And the move has angered Aguilera - but the Beautiful hitmaker admits she isn’t surprised by the recent ruling in America, because not everybody is so accepting of homosexual relationships.
She says, "They’re (gay couples) constantly pushing to be heard and given equal rights. I think there’s a lot of unfairness that goes along with being gay, so the more I can do to give them a voice, then I’ll do so.
"But I think we’d be fooling ourselves if we thought that everywhere was accepting of gay rights and marriages. I think it’s unfair there has to be some kind of standard for marriage. Marriage should be about two people celebrating their love for each other. It shouldn’t have anything to do with someone’s sexual preference." Aguilera goes on to praise European nations for being more accepting of gay marriage.
She adds, "Europe is a lot more open when it comes to sexuality. I think with that the history of European culture, there is a lot more openness to being provocative."

CHRISTINA AGUILERA’s marriage to JORDAN BRATMAN works because he has accepted her sexy image - and does not get jealous of other men’s attentions.

Hollywood actress LINDSAY LOHAN has slammed the paparazzi - calling the ever-present snappers "rough and dangerous".
Lohan has long been a target for photographers, but interest in the Mean Girls star has risen sharply since she began dating British DJ Samantha Ronson.
And Lohan insists that she often finds the constant presence of paparazzi in Los Angeles too overwhelming.
She tells Access Hollywood, "They’re kind of rough in L.A. They’re dangerous with their cars and they don’t listen to you no matter what. They’re always outside the house, whether the cops ask them to not be there or not." The 22-year-old star insists she would love to strike a deal with the photographers, but she doubts any of them would abide by it.
She adds, "I feel like, (the paparazzi) should get a lot of shots in the beginning of the day, and then leave me alone. I get my space, they get their shots, they’re doing my job (sic) and I get to live a life. So there’s got to be some sort of balance but I don’t think me saying it has ever done much."

Former RED DWARF star DANNY JOHN-JULES has been sentenced to 120 hours community service after he was found guilty of attacking two refuse collectors.
The British actor was arrested in February (08) on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm following the incident outside his London home.
John-Jules is said to have accosted the men wearing only a bathrobe and slippers, after they failed to empty his trash bin. He then lashed out at the pair, punching and kicking them.
Magistrates at a London court found the 47-year-old guilty at a hearing in October (08). But they ruled there was no evidence to support claims he had wielded a knife during the attack.
John-Jules was handed the community service order and told to pay $518 (£350) in costs and $111 (£75) in compensation at a hearing on Thursday (13Nov08).
However, the star subsequently insisted his "conscience is crystal clear" and is considering appealing the ruling.

Actress REBECCA HALL realised a secret dream on the set of new film drama FROST/NIXON - she got to work with her teenage crush MICHAEL SHEEN.
The actress fell for the actor when she was just 16 and Sheen was working with her father, a stage director.
She reveals, "He did a production of Amadeus with my dad when I was younger.
I remember seeing him then when I was 16 and having quite an adolescent crush on him. Don’t tell him.

Filming on JAKE GYLLENHAAL’s new movie PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME has been interrupted after a number of deadly scorpions were let loose the set.
The movie - which also stars Bond girl Gemma Arterton - is currently being filmed at Pinewood studios, in Buckinghamshire, England.
But officials were forced to call in a team of pest control experts to help contain the creatures, which were reportedly accidentally shipped in from Morocco when shooting on the movie transferred back to Britain. Several scorpions have now been recaptured, but staff at the studio have been warned to be vigilant in case any more of the creatures are lurking in the

Former wrestler HULK HOGAN has reportedly been accused of selling his trademarks to his best friend - to stop his wife benefiting from the profits in their ongoing divorce.
The pair has been embroiled in a bitter war of words since Linda Bollea filed for divorce from Hogan - real name Terry Bollea - last November (07) after 23 years of marriage.
And now she has accused her former partner of trying to hide assets by passing them on to his pal Eric Bischoff for a discounted price, according to TMZ.com Linda Bollea’s lawyers have filed papers at Florida’s Pinellas County Court arguing over the rights to the star’s many associated brands including Hollywood Hulk, Hulkster, Hulkamania, as well as his product lines such as his own brand grill and energy drink.
But Hogan’s attorney, David Houston, vehemently denies the claims, telling the website, "There has been no siphoning of money - if Linda has to ask again, we’ll be more than happy to provide the same answer."

A host of stars gathered in New York on Thursday (13Nov08) night to pay tribute to Hollywood funnyman BEN STILLER.
The actor was honoured at the city’s Museum of the Moving Image gala for his contribution to film, with past recipients of the award including Tom Cruise, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

Robert Downey Jr. was a little blacker. But that’s fine." Austin Powers star Myers added, "Ben is really good-looking and, because of my arrogance, I assumed he wasn’t funny." And once Stiller took to the stage to accept the honour, he set about dedicating the award to his favourite musician - U2 frontman Bono.

The BEATLES’ former tour manager has defended his decision to speak out about JOHN LENNON’s wife YOKO ONO - insisting fans need to know the truth about her role in the band’s history.
Tony Bramwell recently penned his memoirs, titled Magical Mystery Tours, about his life with the Fab Four - and the book featured some harsh criticisms of Ono, who married the late Lennon in 1969.
Bramwell accused Ono of contributing to the disintegration of the legendary band and even suggested her interest in Lennon was based on his vast fortune.
But the writer insists he did not aim to upset Ono - he just wanted to tell another side to the story.
He says, "I have no axe to grind against Yoko. I wanted to let Beatles fans know the real stories about what it was like when Yoko came into John’s life and the problems she caused for the Beatles, their fans and the staff at Apple."

JONAS BROTHERS star JOE JONAS has denied cheating on ex-girlfriend TAYLOR SWIFT - putting the break-up down to "a change of heart".
Jonas came under fire recently after Swift revealed he had ended their relationship in a 27-second phone call and accused him of dumping her for 10,000 BC actress Camille Belle.
But the teen heart-throb has now hit back - and is adamant he was never unfaithful to the country singer.
He writes on the band’s official blog, "I never cheated on a girlfriend. It might make someone feel better to assume or imply I have been unfaithful but it is simply not true. Maybe there were reasons for a breakup. Maybe the heart moved on. Perhaps feelings changed." And Jonas insists that the reason their break-up conversation took place in less than 30 seconds is because Swift slammed the phone down on him.
He adds: " I called to discuss feelings with the other person. Those feelings were obviously not well received. I did not end the conversation. Someone else did. Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk. A phone call can be pretty short when someone else ends the call. There were later attempts at communication that had no response.
"I wish the best for the other person but could not sit back any longer and leave our fans with a wrong impression of the truth."
