U.S. President-elect BARACK OBAMA has cast doubt on reports his daughters are set to star in MILEY CYRUS’ hit TV show HANNAH MONTANA.
Malia and Sasha Obama, both fans of the series, have become a hot commodity for the show since Disney bosses echoed Cyrus’ statements on Monday (10Nov08) with an official invite.
The cable network said in a statement, "We’re pleased that Malia and Sasha are fans and, as long as their parents say it’s okay, they are invited to the set of Hannah Montana, and all Disney Channel shows, for a guest role or a visit, anytime." Inviting the pair to make a cameo, Cyrus’ father Billy Ray told Access Hollywood, "They probably will. The invitation is there. The Hannah Montana film comes out in April. Maybe something might happen around then." Cyrus was reluctant to divulge details, adding, "I can’t. I have got to keep a secret." But an Obama aide tells the New York Daily News, "It’s a generous invitation, but they simply aren’t going to be making decisions of that kind right now." Explaining his decision to keep his daughters out of the limelight, Obama told U.S. TV show Good Morning America, "Generally, what makes them so charming is the fact that they’re not spending a lot of time worrying about TV cameras or politics, and we want to keep it that way."

British songwriter BILLY BRAGG has paid tribute to U.S. President-elect BARACK OBAMA’s campaign win last week (04Nov08) - claiming the future American leader will be "good for rock ‘n’ roll".
Veteran rocker Bragg was inspired by American youth’s enthusiasm for the Democrat whilst on tour in the U.S.
And the star - famed for his politically-motivated music - believes Obama’s victory is important for the global community.
He tells NME Radio, "I’ve never seen young people so charged up, so engaged.
I thought it might be to do with the release of High School Musical 3, but it actually turned out to be more about Obama.
"When they elect a president they elect a president for all of us. (Obama’s victory is) good for America, it’s good for the world, and it’s good for rock ‘n’ roll."

Rocker BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN is helping to feed the needy in his native New Jersey, by backing a new campaign to boost the supplies of a local food bank.
The star will appear in a newspaper advert for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, encouraging his neighbours in the state to help the non-profit organisation survive the current economic downturn.
Food bank bosses estimate the financial crisis has swelled the number of those in need of food by 30 per cent, and they admit supplies may have to be rationed for the first time.
Springsteen is a long-time supporter of the cause, and has, in the past, donated concert proceeds and encouraged fans to bring food donations to gigs.

Former ‘N SYNC star LANCE BASS returned from his failed Russian space tourist attempt in 2002 a full two inches (five centimetres) shorter.
The 29-year-old, told US talk show host Jay Leno it was a tight squeeze fitting into the tiny Soyuz module he hoped would make him the youngest person in space.
And on his arrival to the U.S. following the project’s collapse, pals noticed a difference in Bass’ height.
"I came back shorter. Everyone said, ‘You’re much shorter’, so I measured myself and…yeah.
"My torso was too long to fit in the rocket seat. They had to make a special suit so when I was in space it would contract me." Bass was due to front a TV show in which contestants would compete for places on the extraterrestrial adventure.
And when the concept fell through, Bass was approached to star in a documentary training him for the module’s hot seat.
He adds, "(The training was) intense - every day from five in the morning until nine at night.
"It was condensed training because it takes years to become a cosmonaut and they only had six months to train me." Bass had to abandon the plan when he couldn’t meet the Russian Space Agency’s $20 million (£12.9 million) funding demands.

PAUL WELLER landed a British music venue in hot water after he openly flouted the U.K. smoking ban by sparking up a cigarette while performing on-stage.
The former The Jam frontman openly smoked during a gig at The Cliffs Pavilion in Southend, South East England on Saturday (08Nov08) - ignoring the U.K.’s strict anti-smoking regulations that came into force last year (07).
A warning has now been issued to the venue’s owners, who face further punishment if there is a repeat performance by any other artist.
A spokesperson for Southend Borough Council, which delivered the warning, says, "We think the law was breached so we have issued a warning.
"We considered the matter but under the terms of our enforcement policy, we have issued the warning to Southend Theatres Limited at this stage. If a similar occurrence were to take place in future, we would be likely to take further action."

Country star TAYLOR SWIFT is glad she was vocal following her split from JOE JONAS - because she wanted her fans to know the truth about their break-up.
The singer admitted she had split from The Jonas Brothers star after months of press speculation surrounding their relationship - and revealed the pair ended their romance with a brief telephone call that lasted only 27 seconds.
And the star confesses she decided against keeping quiet about the fling, because the constant denials would send her fans "crazy".
She tells MTV, "With this situation, I feel like I owed it to my fans to be like, ‘Look, it happened, you weren’t crazy,’ and address it.
"And I addressed it, and, you know, that’s a chapter in my life that’s closed now."

OL’ DIRTY BASTARD’s former lawyer has hinted his client suffered from mental illness, according to a new tell-all book about the late rapper.
In a forthcoming biography about the star entitled Digging for Dirt, ODB’s former lawyer Robert Shapiro claims the rapper’s erratic behaviour and bizarre courtroom antics led him to believe he was mentally unstable.
Shapiro reportedly tells author Jaime Lowe the rapper would "talk in jive talk" and "come into court with two different shoes, labels with price tags attached".
He adds, "It’s possible his behaviour was a result of mental illness. One time he had his hat on backward, had on two different shoes, and he stood with his back to the judge with his hat facing the judge as if he was looking at the judge." The rapper’s multiple arrests throughout his career led to convictions for assault and attempted robbery before his tragic death, just two days before his 36th birthday (15Nov04).
ODB - real name Russell Tyrone Jones - died of an accidental drug overdose in November 2004.

JENNIFER ANISTON was unable to break off her relationship with rocker JOHN MAYER because they simply "adore one another." The couple split at the end of the summer (08), with the singer telling the press, "I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right." Hollywood actress LINDSAY LOHAN is adamant her relatives approve of her lesbian relationship with DJ SAMANTHA RONSON - despite her father recently criticising the union.

"Ali’s known Samantha for a really long time. And she’s like, ‘Whatever it is, I support you. I probably won’t ever do what it is you’re doing, but I’m happy for you.’ Ali’s very mature. I’ve told her that it’s okay to like a boy or a girl if you’re comfortable with it and it’s something you believe you want to do. And I told her not to be afraid of who she wants to be."

MADONNA’s brother CHRISTOPHER CICCONE is convinced his sister will move back to New York permanently following her divorce from GUY RITCHIE.
The couple announced their separation last month (Oct08) and they are currently in the middle of legal proceedings to make their break-up official.
The pop superstar is rumoured to be planning to leave the family home in England and return to her native U.S.
And a move to the States means the divorce could turn ugly if the pair is forced to fight it out over custody of the children - eight-year-old son Rocco, adopted tot David Banda, three, and Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from a previous relationship.
And the singer’s brother believes his sister will attempt to return to New York, taking the kids with her.
Speaking in a new U.K. documentary, titled Madonna & Guy: Where Did It All Go Wrong?, Ciccone says, "I envisage her going back to New York. In the end she’s a New Yorker and London is not New York, the English countryside is beautiful but there’s not enough going on for her."

BEYONCE KNOWLES is convinced she took a huge risk by playing the lead role in new film CADILLAC RECORDS.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker stars as iconic singer Etta James in the movie, which documents the history of one of America’s most famous record labels.
And Knowles feared she would ruin her ‘good girl’ image by playing James, who battled numerous drug addictions throughout her life.
But the singer is delighted with the end result, insisting the role has actually had a positive effect on her.
She tells Billboard magazine: "I realised that Etta James was so unapologetic, bold and strong that playing her was a big risk for me. It gave me the confidence and the push to challenge myself a little more with my music"

GOSSIP GIRL star BLAKE LIVELY uses a memory trick she learned at school to memorise pages of lines for the hit show at a moment’s notice.
The actress admits she and her castmates are expected to learn a 55-page script every eight days, but reveals the tough task is easy for her.
She tells W magazine, "You get used to it. I can read a four-page scene once and have it memorised. It’s a skill you learn in school: disposable cramming."

TV star AMERICA FERRERA is set to return to the big screen - in a new film about the war in Iraq.
The Ugly Betty actress has joined the cast of the independent movie, tentatively titled American Tragic.
Ferrera will play the wife of a young soldier, played by actor Ryan O’Nan, who has trouble readjusting to civilian life when he returns to his small hometown.
Ferrera will also executive produce the project, scheduled to begin production in February (09) in New Mexico.

GOSSIP GIRL star CHACE CRAWFORD has sparked rumours he is set to make his London stage debut - after meeting with producers at one of the city’s most prestigious theatres.
The actor is said to be keen take on a role in an upcoming production and was recently photographed in central London meeting with bosses at the city’s Donmar Warehouse.
A string of well-known stars have used the stage at the North London venue to test their acting mettle, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman, who famously stripped off for her role in Sam Mendes’ production of The Blue Room.

Hollywood actress LINDSAY LOHAN has decided to buy a house in Los Angeles because she is sick of living in hotels.
The Mean Girls star has been staying at the city’s exclusive Chateau Marmont for nearly two years.
But she is determined to finally sort her finances out and buy herself a property.
Lohan tells Harper’s Bazaar magazine, "I still need to be in charge of taking care of myself and getting my s**t in line and buying a house.
"I was living (at the Chateau) for almost two years. Who blows that much money on a hotel? I could have bought a house!"

Filming on JAVIER BARDEM’s new movie BIUTIFUL was halted after police detained one of the extras on suspicion of illegal trading.
The unnamed actor was filming a scene as a street seller in Barcelona, Spain when a local cop seized his goods and began questioning him, unaware that the area was being used as a film set.
After realising their mistake, the officer released the extra and allowed Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez to continue work.
Following the incident, a police spokesperson claimed the force was not informed the film crew was shooting in the area.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE director MARC FORSTER turned down the chance to make a second BOND movie - because he would rather concentrate on "different things".
The filmmaker was brought in to helm the sequel to 2006’s Casino Royale, which was directed by Martin Campbell.
Bond bosses were so pleased with his efforts on the latest 007 picture, they asked him to take charge of the follow-up.
But Forster is adamant that he won’t be returning to the superspy franchise any time soon.
He tells British radio station Heart FM, "They did ask me if I wanted to come back for Bond 23, but I said no.
"I feel like I like to change genres and do different things so I passed on it." But Forster admits that he won’t completely rule out a return to Bond, adding: "Maybe in the future. Never say never again.”

Box office hits WALL-E and KUNG FU PANDA are leading the early nominations for next year’s (09) Academy Awards.
Both films have been shortlisted for the best animated feature Oscar, in a category that will see 14 pictures battle it out to take the coveted gong.
Other nominees in the category include Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who!, Bolt, Igor, Fly Me to the Moon and animated documentary Waltz with Bashir.
This year’s (08) awards saw the honour go to Pixar’s Ratatouille.
The award will be announced at the annual ceremony in Hollywood on 22 February (09).
