Rock legend SIR ELTON JOHN has paid tribute to late South African singer MIRIAM MAKEBA and called on the nation’s officials to give her a state funeral.
Makeba, 76, suffered a heart attack after performing at a charity concert near Caserta, Italy on Sunday (09Nov08) and passed away at Pineta Grande hospital shortly afterwards.
John reveals he was a huge admirer, and insists she should be honoured as a hero in her homeland: "She was the voice of South Africa, and she was an incredible woman.
"I’m sure she will have a state funeral, she should have."

BOB DYLAN stunned a Winnipeg, Canada couple recently when he turned up on their doorstep and asked to be shown around the home.
Dylan made a quick pilgrimage to John Kiernan and Patti Regan’s home prior to a show in the city on 2 November (08) - because the place was the childhood home of rocker Neil Young.
According to Kiernan, the couple thought their visitor was just another Young fan checking out his hero’s former home.
He says, "He was wearing really nice leather pants and I realise I’m staring face-to-face with Bob Dylan.” Kiernan walked Dylan through his home and even into his teenage daughter’s bedroom, which used to be Young’s.
The starstruck homeowner recalls, "He said, ‘So this was where he listened to his music.’"

RUSSELL CROWE is in talks to replace tragic HEATH LEDGER in Aussie director PHILLIP NOYCE’s DIRT MUSIC.
Ledger was attached to star in the film before he died in January (08) and now movie news website MovieHole.net reports the actor’s fellow Antipodean, Crowe, is set to step in.
Noyce’s film is an adaptation of the Tim Winton novel about a couple in a loveless relationship.

JENNIFER CONNELLY blames her 11-year-old son KAI for turning her back onto meat - because the strict vegan crumbled when she was pregnant with him.
The actress had successfully avoided animal products for many years until she conceived - with ex-partner David Dugan - and the cravings began.
Connelly, who is now married to British actor Paul Bettany, tells Marie Claire magazine, "I’d been vegan for many years, and then all of a sudden, when I was pregnant with Kai, I wanted a turkey burger. That was the end of my being vegan."

Actor MICKEY ROURKE has issued a hasty apology after he was caught on camera calling a unknown journalist a "f**got".
Rourke was filmed making the obscene comment as he walked into Los Angeles’ Hyde nightclub on Monday (10Nov08).
After he was questioned about his reported romance with his The Wrestler co-star Evan Rachel Wood, who recently split from boyfriend Marilyn Manson, Rourke said, "She’s a good friend, that’s it… Tell that f**got who wrote all that s**t in the paper I’d like to break his f**king legs." But the movie tough guy was quick to issue an apology following the incident.
He says, "I want to sincerely apologise for the derogatory word I used. It was insensitive and inappropriate of me and I am deeply sorry that I may have offended anyone."

New British movie hunk ROB PATTINSON has already tasted the craziness of fanatics - one seven year old asked him to bite her.
Pattinson, who plays a handsome vampire in the hotly-anticipated Twilight movie, was shopping for computer equipment at New York’s Apple store recently when a little girl approached him and asked for a photo.
But then things got weird.
The 22 year old explains, "She went really quiet and she was like, ‘Can you bite me?’ It wasn’t a joke.
"I looked at her and thought, ‘Do you know what you’re saying?’" Pattinson got another taste of what he can start to expect from fans when he was swarmed by fans during a signing session at a store in San Francisco, California on Monday (10Nov08).
In the mad crush, one hardcore Twilight fan had her nose broken and another passed out.
The signing was quickly called off and police called to disperse the screaming fans.

ANGELINA JOLIE and BRAD PITT are keen to adopting a child from South America but they are finding it difficult to negotiate the complicated adoption laws.
The couple already have three adopted children, Maddox, seven, from Cambodia, Pax, four, from Vietnam, and Zahara, three, from Ethiopia. They also have three biological children Shiloh, two, and baby twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie recently announced that the couple is ready to adopt another child from abroad as soon as the twins are six months old.
And the couple is already looking into which part of the world they want their next family addition to come from. But the actress admits that they have already run into difficulties.
Jolie says, "We’ve thought about South or Latin America, but it’s very complicated. Brad and I aren’t married, so, as a technically single woman, there are lots of countries I can’t adopt from. And, as a technically single man, most countries wouldn’t allow Brad to adopt at all.
"Some countries won’t let you adopt a child if you already have a child of the same gender at home."

Rocker BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN will debut his new single WORKIN’ ON A DREAM during Sunday night’s (16Nov08) American football clash between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.
Springsteen performed the song acoustically during a Barack Obama rally in Columbus, Ohio at the beginning of October (08), just after he recorded the track for his new album.

Music and movie mogul DAVID GEFFEN insists gays only have themselves to blame for the new same-sex marriage ban in California - because they didn’t lobby the state’s African-American community for support.
As a result, the gay DreamWorks executive fears black people voted against same-sex nuptials last week (04Nov08) on religious grounds - and it was that vote that cost the gay community their marriages.
Geffen tells website TheDailyBeast.com, ”That was our mistake. So many African-Americans don’t look at gay marriage as a civil rights issue, they look on it as a religious one.
"And we, for whatever reason…fear? Arrogance? Complacency? We did not do enough outreach to them. We need to begin a dialogue with them, because we should be putting this back on the ballot every election every year until we win.”

The blogger who leaked tracks from GUNS N’ ROSES’ forthcoming CHINESE DEMOCRACY album has agreed to a guilty plea deal in an effort to reduce the sentence he’ll be handed.
Kevin Cogill hit the headlines this summer (08) when he put nine unreleased tracks on his website Antiquiet.com.
The group’s lawyers forced him to pull the tracks down and he has since been hit with copyright infringement charges.
By pleading guilty, the blogger hopes federal prosecutors will reduce the charges against him to a single count of copyright infringement.
As a result, he’ll face a year behind bars.
Guns N’ Roses’ long-awaited new album will be released on 23 November (08).

MARILYN MANSON was asked to perform a concert to support BARACK OBAMA’s presidential campaign, according to the shock rocker’s ex-girlfriend EVAN RACHEL WOOD.
Wood claims she persuaded Manson not to link up with the President elect, because of the controversy it would cause.
The actress - who split from the star last month (Oct08) - says, "I advised them not to do it, I said, ‘If you show up there, it’s not going to be good.

JENNIFER ANISTON has branded love rival ANGELINA JOLIE "uncool" following the actress’s admission she fell in love with current partner BRAD PITT when he was still married to the former FRIENDS star. Jolie recently revealed she and Pitt "fell in love" on the set of 2004 movie Mr. and Mrs Smith, a whole year before Pitt and Aniston divorced.
The quote contradicted their previous claims they only hooked up after the split was made formal.
And it has prompted Aniston to break her long silence on the subject, in an interview with the December (08) issue of U.S. Vogue magazine.
The 39-year-old says, "What Angelina did was very uncool." Just last year (07), Jolie offered to meet Aniston in her own interview with the magazine.

Former DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star JESSE METCALFE is recovering in a London hospital after falling from a balcony in Monaco on Sunday night (09Nov08).
Metcalfe reportedly hit his head and was left unconscious after slipping between a gap in a pathway at an afterparty following the World Music Awards, which took place in the tiny principality.
A spokesperson for the actor has confirmed emergency crews rushed to the scene after the star tumbled a staggering 40 feet (12 metres).
The actor was taken to a hospital in Monaco before being flown back to London, where he is currently staying, on Monday (10Nov08). He was kept overnight and remains in medics’ care.
Metcalfe miraculously escaped the fall without suffering any broken bones and is scheduled for release on Tuesday (11Nov08) pending results of MRI scans.
A spokesperson for the actor tells British newspaper The Sun, "He is a very, very lucky man. The accident could have been fatal.
"I have just come from the hospital and he is baring up OK. He has not broken anything but can barely walk as he hasn’t got much movement in his legs.
"Midway through the aftershow party at Jimmy’z on Sunday night he headed back to his hotel to change out of his suit so he could be more comfortable. On his way back he slipped 40 feet and was knocked unconscious. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Monaco and given X-rays.
"Doctors didn’t speak much English so as soon as we landed in London yesterday we had him re-examined at a London hospital. They wanted to keep him in overnight so he could have a MRI test today. Fingers crossed he’ll get the green light to get released tonight. Jesse knows he’s had a very lucky escape." Certain the fall could’ve been avoided the spokesperson adds, "We are going to speak to the organisers of the World Music Awards as the pathway was very dangerous and we heard someone else tripped up as well. It is an issue that needs to be addressed."
