CAREY AND KNOWLES LEAD WORLD MUSIC AWARDS
MARIAH CAREY and BEYONCE KNOWLES have been honoured for their contribution to the music industry at this year’s (08) World Music Awards in Monte Carlo, Monaco Carey was handed the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Crazy In Love hitmaker landed the Outstanding Contribution to the Arts gong on Sunday night (09Nov08).
British singer Leona Lewis received two awards on the night; Best Pop Female and Best New Artist
. Kid Rock also walked away with two of the night’s big prizes - he was presented with Best Pop Male and Best Pop/Rock Male.
Performers at the star studded event, hosted by Jesse Metcalfe and singer Michelle Williams, included Carey, Knowles, her sister Solange and Alicia Keys.
Picking up gongs for their countries’ most popular act included British band Coldplay, Akon, who flew the flag for Africa, and Madonna for America.
Celine Dion picked up the gong for best Canadian act while Enrique Iglesias was given the nod for best Spanish and Latin performer.
