SEAN PENN snubbed his ex-wife MADONNA and pledged his support for her estranged husband GUY RITCHIE, as he accepted BAFTA/LA’s Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at a Hollywood ceremony on Thursday (07Nov08).
Penn was presented with the prize by director Paul Thomas Anderson at the annual bash to celebrate all things British in Hollywood.
When he took to the stage, the actor - married to Madonna from 1985-1989 sent a message to Brit Richie, hinting his career could flourish after divorcing the Material Girl.
Penn said, "What’s my British thing to say? Guy Ritchie is back!" Before presenting the prize, Anderson mocked Penn by comparing him to reclusive filmmaker Kubrick - who inspired the award.
The There Will Be Blood filmmaker said, "Stanley Kubrick was a perfectionist and a man of amazing intellect. Sean’s not really either one of those things.
Stanley Kubrick was a photographer in the beginning of his career. Sean has done considerable damage to photographers’ cameras in the beginning of his career.
"Stanley Kubrick made Spartacus. Sean Penn spent 32 days in L.A. County Jail."

BEYONCE KNOWLES has vowed to keep herself as flexible as possible throughout January (09) - so she can perform at President BARACK OBAMA’s inauguration.
Like so many celebrities, Knowles was full of emotion when Obama was named the 44th U.S. president on Tuesday night (04Nov08), admitting she "fell asleep crying and smiling at the same time" and woke up "with mascara running and a smile on my face".
And now she can’t wait to serenade her political icon when he’s sworn in as president.
She says, "I’m there. I can’t wait. I feel like all of us, we’re ready to do whatever we have to do. Whatever they want - if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there, and I’m ready."

BEYONCE KNOWLES has named her superheroine - she wants to be WONDER WOMAN.
The singer/actress recently revealed she’d love to hit the big screen as a comic book icon - and now she’s revealing just who she’d like to play.
She tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, “I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman?. It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice - a black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that.
"I love Wonder Woman and it’d be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy.
“After doing these roles that were so emotional, I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero…’ There’s also an action element (to those films) that I would enjoy.” But she faces some stiff competition to recreate Lynda Carter’s iconic Wonder Woman TV character on the big screen - Dannii Minogue also wants the role, and Mission: Impossible III star Keri Russell has signed up to play the heroine in a new animated movie.
Meanwhile, Lucy Lawless voiced Wonder Woman in the recent Justice League: The New Frontier film and sexy Megan Gale is slated to play the superheroine in the long-delayed Justice League Of America blockbuster.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON is a little worried about his upcoming 60th birthday because he might be selected to retake his driving test.
The movie star hits the landmark age in December (08) and has learned California’s driving authorities select 60-somethings to take a test, just to make sure they’re still proficient drivers.
He says, "Randomly, they make people take their drivers test, so I might qualify as one of the people." So Jackson is making sure he’s perfect behind the wheel: "I kinda know the driving laws."

LATEST: Cops investigating the murders of JENNIFER HUDSON’s mother, brother and nephew have until Monday (09Nov08) to charge the singer/actress’ former brother-in-law with the killings, or set him free.
William Balfour, who was married to the Oscar winner’s sister Julia, was arrested last week (beg27Oct08), following the grisly murders, and held by police on a parole violation.
But he has yet to be charged, and the Chicago Police Department is running out of time to keep him in custody.
Police sources tell website TMZ.com Balfour is scheduled to appear before the Illinois State Parole Review Board on Monday at 9am - and will walk away a free man if there isn’t enough evidence to charge him with a parole violation or murder.
No other suspects have been named in connection with the Hudson killings.
The Dreamgirls star’s mother Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason, were found shot dead at their home in Chicago on 24 October (08). The body of the singer/actress’ seven-year-old nephew, Julian King, was found in an abandoned car three days later.

Iconic Jamaican bandleader and producer BYRON LEE has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 73.
The Dragonaires founder, who inspired many stars with his reggae, ska and rocksteady hits, died on 4 November (08), according to a post on his studio website.
As the leader of the Dragonaires, Lee enjoyed hits like Jamaica Ska and Dancehall Soca, and the music also earned him and his bandmates a part in 1962 James Bond film Dr. No.
As the businessman behind Lee Enterprises, Lee produced hit shows in Jamaica for James Brown, Al Green and others, and he also set up Dynamic Studios in Jamaica, which became a mecca for stars like the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Bob Marley.
He was still recording and performing with the Dragonaires up to his death the band was scheduled to play in Sunrise, Florida on Sunday (09Nov08).

JOAN ALLEN and JEREMY IRONS are to portray husband and wife in a new GEORGIA O’ KEEFFE biopic.
Actress Allen will play the acclaimed artist, while British star Irons will portray her husband of 20 years, photographer Alfred Stieglitz, in the TV movie.
The film, to be directed by Bob Balaban, will debut on America’s Lifetime Television network late in 2009.

Eighties synth-pop supergroup ULTRAVOX are to reunite for a series of British shows in 2009.
The quartet’s most famous line-up, Midge Ure, Warren Cann, Chris Cross and Billy Currie have lined up 14 dates, which will begin in Edinburgh in April (09).
The shows will mark the group’s first gigs since they performed at Live Aid in 1985.
Ultravox split in 1987 but reformed briefly in 1992 without frontman Ure, who was one of the men behind the Live Aid charity campaign.
The group enjoyed a string of global hits, which included Vienna, Lament, and Dancing With Tears in My Eyes.

The brains behind the SPICE GIRLS reunion tour and PRINCE’s recent London concert run are trying to lure MICHAEL JACKSON to the English capital for a string of shows.
Promoters AEG Live have offered the King of Pop a "standing offer with no expiration" to play at the O2 arena, where Prince performed a run of shows and Led Zeppelin reformed to pay tribute to music mogul Ahmet Ertegun last December (07).
The news comes as Jacko’s 1982 album Thriller returns to the top of the U.S.
charts - the Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog Albums chart that is.
The album rocketed up the charts from 41 to one, thanks in part to ongoing stories about a musical based on the pop star’s 14-minute Thriller video.
The album is 2008’s top-selling catalogue album in America, according to Billboard.com.
