Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:27 pm

SAMUEL L. JACKSON’s celebrity helped him avoid a lengthy drug trial after the two accused men recognised him as he sat among the jury members.
The Pulp Fiction star was called to serve on a jury at a courthouse in the San Fernando Valley in California recently, and admits he was more than happy to perform his civic duty.
He says, "I was in the jury pool, in the box and these guys came in - it was a drug case, or something.
"They sat down and they looked at the jury and they saw me and they were both like, ‘Hey!’ The judge was like, ‘Mr. Jackson, you can go.’" But Jackson admits his jury day was quite pleasant: "I was reading my book and chilling with all the people in the jury pool; they were kinda shocked that I was there."

RIHANNA FALLS ILL AT SYDNEY GIG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:27 pm

R&B superstar RIHANNA sparked fears for her health when paramedics were rushed to her show in Sydney, Australia on Thursday (07Nov08) after she complained of feeling ill.
The Bajan beauty was performing at Sydney’s Acer Arena when she appeared to be in physical pain after being lowered down to the stage by a harness.
The star’s beau Chris Brown had joined her on-stage for a rousing rendition of their remix to her smash hit Umbrella - a track named Cinderella - when she had to flee the stage to seek medical attention.
Fans became frantic as Brown was forced to finish the show’s finale alone.
But spokesperson Amanda Silverman denies rumours the star fainted behind the scenes - insisting she was just hot and needed to rehydrate.
She tells WENN, "It was very hot at the venue, so after Rihanna’s set was over, she went off stage and needed to sit down, catch her breath and have some water." And Silverman is adamant the star will be in perfect condition to continue her Australian tour dates: "She is perfectly healthy and will be at her show tomorrow."

MENDES HUNTING FOR SCRIPT FOR PREACHER MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:18 pm

Director SAM MENDES is desperate to turn cult comic book PREACHER into a movie - if only he could find the perfect script.
The American Beauty filmmaker was rumoured to be working on bringing the graphic novel to the big screen, but he admits the project is, for now, just a dream.
He tells Empireonline.com, "I’d love to make Preacher. But there’s no script.
"This is a typical (industry paper) Variety announcement. ‘Mendes to direct Preacher’ - I wish! Basically they should have written, ‘Mendes in development with Preacher’. What I’m doing is, I’ve gotta find a script. I’ve just got to get it written." But Mendes insists he is working hard to turn it into a reality because he’s a huge fan of the series, about rebellious preacher Jesse Custer who embarks on a quest to find God and hold him accountable for crimes against humanity." He adds, "It’s brilliant, it’s an incredible twisted vision. There’s so much of it you couldn’t possibly fit it all into one movie. It’s just about what you keep and what you leave out, and how you structure the story.
"But just to have that toy set again, being able to paint on a big canvas and to say, ‘I am gonna do crazy crane shots and massive action sequences again because I want to,’ it’s exciting."

PROCOL HARUM BATTLE GOES BACK TO COURT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:15 pm

PROCOL HARUM organist MATTHEW FISHER has been given the go-ahead to take his appeal over royalties for the band’s hit song A WHITER SHADE OF PALE to London’s House of Lords.
The founding member of the 1960s rockers lost a legal battle against frontman Gary Brooker earlier this year (08), after an appeals court handed the singer full royalty rights - overturning a 2006 ruling which gave Fisher a 40 per cent cut of the song’s profits.
Fisher argued he had written the 1967 song’s famous melody, and should be entitled to royalties as a result.
A British judge ruled Fisher’s 2006 case was invalid because it took him 38 years to bring the case to court.
But now the musician is fighting back - and on Thursday (06Nov08), Fisher was given the opportunity to have his argument heard in the U.K.’s highest court, the House of Lords.
He says, "I’m delighted that the House of Lords have decided to take my appeal, and I remain hopeful that my claim will be allowed in full." Fisher maintains he helped to write the hit song, which has for years simply been credited to Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid.
