CORNELL: ‘I’M NOT THE NEW PLANT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

Former AUDIOSLAVE and SOUNDGARDEN frontman CHRIS CORNELL has dismissed reports he’s in secret negotiations to take over ROBERT PLANT’s role in LED ZEPPELIN.
The supergroup is reportedly planning to hit the road in 2009 without Plant, who wants no part of a reunion tour - and Cornell has been listed among the hopefuls who could step in for the Kashmir rocker.
But he insists, "I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn’t to say I won’t be." He tells MTV News, "I’ve heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it’s just an online rumour or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know." Last week (ends31Oct08), Billboard.com reported Alter Bridge star Myles Kennedy was the clear favourite to front Led Zeppelin when founder members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones toured with late drummer John Bonham’s son Jason toured.

PARIS HILTON has confessed she broke up rocker BENJI MADDEN’s romance with SOPHIE MONK - she was dating the GOOD CHARLOTTE star before he split from the Aussie model.
Madden has always maintained his engagement with Monk was over before he started dating the socialite, but Hilton has revealed that’s not altogether true.
In a new interview with Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph, the hotel heiress confesses she fell in love with Madden shortly after the birth of best pal Nicole Richie’s daughter Harlow in January (08).
Harlow’s father is Madden’s twin brother Joel.
She says, "Ever since Harlow was born I was over playing with her and visiting Nicole and Joel - and we just fell in love right away… He said he always had a big crush on me and when I finally became single it was great that we got together - it was the best.'’ Hilton revealed that the couple had been together for "like eight months".
But Monk’s publicist made the announcement about the Monk/Madden split on 12 February (08), suggesting the rocker and Hilton were dating before the 13-month engagement ended.
Hilton just giggled when a Telegraph reporter asked if she had been a part of the break-up, before adding of Monk, "I never met her and I don’t know her, so I have no opinion.'’

SAADIQ WILL COME OUT TO VOTE FOR OBAMA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:27 pm

Soul legend RAPHAEL SAADIQ has been inspired to vote in Tuesday’s (04Nov08) U.S. presidential elections by Democrat BARACK OBAMA - because he’s "the best person for the job".
The former Lucy Pearl star admits he failed to exercise his civic duty in 2004’s general election between Democrat John Kerry and Republican George W.
Bush.
But he is determined to use his vote when America goes to the polls on Tuesday, because he is genuinely moved by Obama.
Saadiq tells WENN, "I think it means a lot for the black community… (but) more than that, more than it being about a black president, it’s more about being the best person for the job. He’s a black president and everybody’s gonna look at it like, ‘Oh, we got a black president’, but it’s more than that.
"(It’s about) having someone in office that you can hold accountable. If he does get elected, if he wins, he’s gonna have a hard job.
"A lot of people who never voted before now feel that they’ve got a voice and they should get out and vote. Obama’s probably the biggest celebrity because look at all the people last year (sic) who didn’t vote; I didn’t vote last time ‘cos I knew Bush was gonna be back in there, that’s not a great reason not to vote, but sometimes people aren’t motivated to vote.
"(This year) I’m voting because I see someone who I believe in… Some of the things he says are more relevant to people’s causes."

KLUM UPSETS HINDUS WITH GODDESS KALI COSTUME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 pm

HEIDI KLUM has upset America’s leading Hindus by dressing up as Goddess Kali for a Halloween party at the weekend.
What may have seemed like a little fun for the German supermodel has deeply upset Hindu scholars, who feel Klum should make a public apology for posing as a sacred figure.
Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed says, "Goddess Kali is highly revered in Hinduism and she is meant to be worshipped in temples and not to be used in clubs for publicity stunts or thrown around loosely for dramatic effects.
"Hindus welcome Hollywood and other entertainment industries to immerse themselves in Hinduism, but they should take it seriously and respectfully, and not just use the religion for decoration or to advance their selfish agenda.
Casual flirting sometimes results in pillaging serious spiritual doctrines and revered symbols and hurting the devotees." Zed is not alone in his outrage; various other Hindu leaders, including Jawahar L. Khurana of the Hindu Alliance of India, and Bhavna Shinde of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, have also criticised Klum for posing as Goddess Kali on Halloween (31Oct08), calling it "denigrating".
Goddess Kali, who personifies Sakti or divine energy, is widely worshipped in Hinduism. She is considered the goddess of time and change. Some Bengali poets described her as supreme deity.

ALLEN’S ONLINE BATTLE WITH CRITICAL COLUMNIST

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 pm

Pop star LILY ALLEN has lashed out at a British journalist who mocked a comparison between her new album and the works of literary greats WILLIAM WORDSWORTH and ALAN BENNETT.
In her Guardian newspaper column last Wednesday (29Oct08) Marina Hyde claims a press release that likens the lyrics in Allen’s new album It’s Not Me, It’s You to the works of poet Wordsworth and playwright Bennett "may well be the year’s most hilariously stupid document".
Allen responded on the Guardian’s website, writing in the comments section, "I think that what you wrote earlier was thoughtless and uncalled for… It’s quite obvious the part of this press release you referred to was ‘tongue in cheek’. As we all know, it would be ridiculous to compare me to Wordsworth or Bennett and your poking fun at this reference was cheap, really. Well anyway, I hope we can put this all behind us and that you can move on to writing something else that makes other people feel stupid, and you feel more clever.
Lily Allen." After an online exchange between the pair, Allen threatened to open a discussion on her MySpace page about Hyde’s alleged affair with former newspaper editor, America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, writing, "I might start it as a debate on my MySpace blog, there are 250,000 subscribers to that blog."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 pm

Actress JADA PINKETT SMITH only agreed to voice a hippo in the new MADAGASCAR movie when filmmakers promised her character wouldn’t die.
The Matrix Reloaded star has become a champion for animal rights over the years, and insists animated films starring animals too often end grimly.
But Pinkett Smith leaped at the chance to play seductive hippo Gloria in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa - when she found out she wouldn’t be killed off before the credits rolled.
She says, "I don’t watch animal movies because they end up being so sad.
That’s one of the things I love about Madagascar - it’s an animal movie, (but) nobody dies. It’s a good time. But Bambi, Dumbo, White Fang, ugh, they’re depressing."

WEISZ STRUGGLED TO LEARN NEW INSTRUMENTS FOR UPCOMING MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 pm

Actress RACHEL WEISZ embarked on a musical journey to prepare for her role in THE BROTHERS BLOOM - she had to learn how to play four different instruments.
The Mummy star admits it was a tall task to undertake for the upcoming comedy adventure, particularly because she was stuck with a Serbian music teacher and they struggled to overcome the language barrier.
She says, "We were in Serbia when we were doing the scenes and I learned the accordion with a professor who spoke no English and I spoke no Serbian. I just wished someone had made a documentary of me trying to learn the accordion because it was so silly.
"Then I had to learn the banjo, guitar and fiddle. I was doing my homework in my room for hours learning the chords. I had to look as if I knew how to play these instruments." But Weisz, who stars as an heiress who is cheated by conmen played by Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo, admits there was one other skill she had to master and that was the hardest of all.
She adds, "Most difficult were the card tricks. I never knew how to shuffle a pack let alone do this amazing card trick. I had to learn with someone from the Magic Circle. That was no fake, believe me."

DREYFUSS MAKES WEST END COMEBACK AFTER FOUR YEARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:33 pm

Actor RICHARD DREYFUSS is preparing to return to the West End stage - four years after he was sensationally fired from musical THE PRODUCERS.
The Jaws star has been coaxed back into theatre work by Kevin Spacey, who is the artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre, to star in the venue’s new play Complicit.
Dreyfuss’ last experience in stage work ended in embarrassment following his dismissal from Mel Brooks’ The Producers in 2004.
Theatre bosses at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane stated Dreyfuss was unable to "to fulfil the rigours of the role" due to a shoulder injury.
And the actor, who is currently garnering praise for his turn as Dick Cheney in Oliver Stone’s W, can’t wait to prove his worth to theatregoers.
He jokes, "I’m very excited to have a chance of not being fired before the opening." And Oscar winner Spacey is glad to have a fellow Academy Award honoree on board for the project.
He says, "I’m thrilled that we are being given this opportunity to work together. It’s great that he’s coming to London and I think audiences are in for a real treat." The play, in which Dreyfuss will play an award-winning reporter who battles the U.S. Supreme Court over his freedom of press beliefs, will kick-off in January 2009.
