Newlywed RYAN REYNOLDS can’t wait for Sunday’s (02Nov08) New York City Marathon to be over because he has hated every minute training for it.
The actor will join thousands of runners, fundraisers and do-gooders on Sunday morning at the start of the marathon - and he won’t be surprised if he doesn’t make it across the finishing line hours later.
In a letter posted on the Huffington Post website, Reynolds writes, "Let it be known at the outset, I am not a runner. I am a running joke. Waking up at 4:30am and jogging anywhere from 11 to 23 miles has been nothing short of horrifying." And he still has no idea why he signed on for the 26-mile run - watching past marathons on TV convinced him he was never going to take part in one.
He adds, "People were crying. People were limping, hobbling, screaming, crawling… I breathed in deeply and decided something: ‘I’d never do that ever, ever." Reynolds is running as a tribute to his father Jim, who has been battling Parkinson’s Disease for the past 15 years.
As a member of Parkinson’s sufferer Michael J. Fox’s Team Fox, the actor has already raised over $79,000 (GBP49,300), which will be paid in full if he completes the race.
And the actor hopes to break records en route - as "the first person in history to sob uncontrollably for 26.2 miles straight."
