JAY-Z’S GLASTONBURY SET HAILED AS ‘MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT’ OF THE SUMMER
Rap superstar JAY-Z has been honoured for his controversial headlining performance at this summer’s (08) legendary British music festival Glastonbury.
The Big Pimpin’ hitmaker, real name Shawn Carter, hit headlines earlier this year (08) when he was announced as the top act on the event’s main stage.
Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher slammed Glastonbury organisers for the move, insisting hip-hop music didn’t belong at the traditionally rock ‘n’ roll festival.
But Jay-Z defied his critics by delivering a stomping set - complete with an acoustic rendition of Oasis’ Wonderwall in answer to Gallagher’s comments.
And the rapper’s performance has been hailed by judges at the U.K. Festival Awards - he walked away with the Most Memorable Moment prize at the London ceremony on Thursday (30Oct08).
Other winning artists include Kings of Leon (Best Headline Act), The Prodigy (Best Dance Act), Biffy Clyro (Festival Rock Act), and The Ting Tings (Festival Pop Act).
