BANDERAS ENDS MONEY TALK WITH ABU DHABI ROYALS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:51 pm

Spanish actor ANTONIO BANDERAS pulled out of a deal with the Abu Dhabi royal family to finance his new movie about the last Moorish king of Granada, because he refused to bow to their demands.
The Legend of Zorro star approached the wealthy family from the United Arab Emirates to bankroll Muhammad XII - about the 15th century exiled king known as Boabdil.
But he reveals negotiations broke down when they demanded he change the cultural focus of his film.
He says, "In Abu Dhabi, they offered to produce it. But I would have had to agree to various things.
"They wanted it to be filmed in English, but I wanted it to be in Arabic and Spanish. On those terms, I left the negotiations.
"My project is Arabic. It’s not just financial, but ideological. The Arabic characters will be played by Arab actors and the plot centres on Boabdil, who has been labelled by history a coward and a traitor."

MARTIN FEARS FOR COLDPLAY TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:51 pm

COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN fears the band will struggle to sell tickets on their upcoming tour because of the global economic crisis.
The band is set to take to the road in November (08) with dates in the U.S., U.K. and Japan.
But Martin is convinced that the live dates will prove less popular than previous tours - because music fans are less likely to spend their cash on luxuries like gigs.
He says, "It (the financial downturn) probably means you sell five per cent fewer tickets. People have less money for concerts."

"Prince had his band in the living room. Everybody left the house except for me and my boy. It was 6 o’clock, 7 o’clock in the morning, the sun was coming up, and we were still drinking. And Prince and his wife were at the door in their pyjamas and said, ‘Come on, Tracy, you’ve got to go.’"

DESIGNER’S LAWYER HITS OUT AT ALLEGED RAPE VICTIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:45 pm

A lawyer for Indian fashion designer ANAND JON has hit out at the women accusing him of rape - insisting they are "lying" in a bid to seek compensation from the star.
The 34-year-old is currently on trial in Los Angeles on 27 counts, including rape and sexual assault, on a number of women, many of whom were models and underage at the time of the alleged attacks. The incidents are said to have occurred between 2001 and 2007.
But in the closing argument of the case on Friday (31Oct08), lawyers for the designer - full name Anand Jon Alexander - accused the alleged victims of lying on the stand - so they can sue Alexander following his criminal case.
Attorney Leonard Levine told the court, "How many times did you hear ‘I don’t recall’ from them during the trial? I stopped counting at 300. These women lied. They lied, they exaggerated and nobody cared - but you should care." Prosecutors have accused Alexander of being a "sexual predator" who should be handed a long jail term.
If convicted of all counts, Alexander faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

ROW AT RITCHIE’S PUB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:45 pm

Moviemaker GUY RITCHIE was at the centre of a row in his own London pub on Thursday (30Oct08) - when police were called to evict a punter who had verbally abused the star.
Employees at the Punchbowl in Mayfair called emergency services on Thursday night when a customer launched into a verbal tirade against Ritchie - making crude remarks about his impending divorce from pop singer Madonna.
The man was subsequently removed from the venue for disorderly behaviour, according to British newspaper the Daily Express.
A source tells the publication, "Guy was in the pub and in good spirits, laughing and joking over a pint. This bloke seemed to be on the look out for trouble. He got a drink and started shouting his mouth off about being a Madonna fan and ranting about the divorce. There was a big scene in the pub." London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed officers attended the incident but no charges were brought against the unnamed customer.

LEARY FORGIVEN BY LEADING AUTISM CAMPAIGN GROUP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

LATEST: A planned protest against actor-turned-author DENIS LEARY’s new book has been called off by autism activists after accepting the star’s apology for scathing remarks he made against children suffering with the disorder.
The Rescue Me star sparked outrage among campaigners for young autism sufferers when an excerpt from his book, Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid, was printed in a U.S. newspaper last month (15Oct08).
In the book, Leary claims some parents use the brain development disorder as an excuse to explain their children’s "laziness", and blames the surge in autism on "inattentive mothers and competitive dads".
But Leary defended himself against criticism and claimed his comments had been taken "out of context".
He has since issued two apologies for his remarks, and advocacy group Autism United has now forgiven him for his mistake.
Autism United spokesman and comedian Mark Anthony Ramirez has now cancelled the U.S.-wide boycott of the book, on the condition that Leary either omits the chapter in question, or donate some of the proceeds to charity.
Ramirez, whose own child has been diagnosed with autism, says, "I feel that Denis’ apology was enough.
"But his claim that his comments were taken out of context is a veiled attempt to elicit more sales.
"As a parent of a child with autism, I feel he owes the autism community the money he is making for using what has quickly become an epidemic in our country as a cheap ploy to sell his book. He should donate a portion of his sales to assist children with autism."

WEINSTEIN BRUSHES OFF MOORE’S LAWSUIT THREAT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

Movie producer HARVEY WEINSTEIN is confident of legal victory if singer SAM MOORE goes through with his threat of a lawsuit over new movie SOUL MEN because he insists the film is not based on the legendary star’s life.
Soul Men stars Samuel L. Jackson and late comedian Bernie Mac as an estranged R&B duo who plot their chart comeback.
Grammy winner Moore claims the story is too similar to his own career with late musician Dave Prater when they performed as Sam & Dave.
He has been in touch with his lawyers with a view to filing suit over Soul Men, claiming it infringes trademark rights over their song Soul Man, and alleging it is defamatory.
The Weinstein Company’s attorney, Bertram Fields, counters the producer has sent Moore a copy of the script to prove the huge differences in the career of Sam & Dave and the characters in the film.
But Moore is still unhappy.
In legal letters sent to The Weinstein Company, Moore says, "The film is sexist, racist and embarrassing, and that’s not what Sam & Dave were about…
It’s so amateurish, so stupid, and I’m surprised that Samuel L. Jackson is involved in this. But when you read the script, all you see if vulgarity. Every other word is the ‘N-word’ or ‘M-f’ and it’s just not right. They have b**tardised my whole story." However, Fields is sure Moore will fail in any attempt to win "significant" compensation for his allegations.
He says, "Months ago, we received Mr Moore’s claim and told him he had none.
"As he could readily see from the script we sent him, Soul Men is not, in any part or respect, based on Mr Moore’s life. It tells a different story about different people. If Mr Moore decides to file a lawsuit, he will lose."

ROURKE’S MURDER/SUICIDE CONFESSION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

Actor MICKEY ROURKE was once so depressed he planned to end his life - but only after murdering a man who raped his then-wife.
Rourke has revealed that he was determined to commit suicide and even penned a note to his now ex-wife, Carré Otis.
But before he went through with his threat, he planned to punish a man who had previously raped Otis.
He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "I was about to commit two mortal sins, (I planned to kill) a guy who raped Carré when she was on heroin and beat her up." But the star admits he dropped his ideas of a grisly murder/suicide after visiting his close friend, famed New York priest, Father Pete Colapietro.
Colapietro adds, "(He had) a letter he’d written to Carré - a note of a conciliatory nature. I told him, ‘Let’s fold it up and put it behind the statue of St. Jude.’" The duo then talked over Rourke’s problems and convinced him not to go through with his deadly plan.
Rourke and Otis divorced in 1998.

GALLAGHER DISAPPOINTED BY KINGS OF LEON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

OASIS frontman LIAM GALLAGHER is bitterly disappointed by KINGS OF LEON’s new album - insisting the rockers have "sold out." The British singer admits he is a fan of the Tennessee-based band, but after hearing their latest record, Only By The Night, he is convinced that they have changed their sound in a bid to appeal to a wider audience.
He tells NME.com, "I like Kings Of Leon, but I don’t know about this f**king new record. I like the old stuff. I like (singer Caleb Followill’s) voice. When they first come out I was going, ‘Who the f**k is this?’ They were cool, and now they’ve all got their sleeves cut off.
"It seems to me they’ve gone for the bucks, man. I’m not dissing (insulting) them because I f**king really like them, but it’s like they’ve got this U2 sound and you can do better than that."

SWIFT CASTS HER FIRST VOTE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

Country star TAYLOR SWIFT has cast her vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election - and she is delighted to have gone to the ballot boxes for the first time.
The 18-year-old singer was able to attend an early voting session in her home state of Tennessee on Thursday (30Oct08), because she will be away during Tuesday’s (04Nov08) nationwide polls.
And Swift was so determined to exercise her right to vote, she stood in line for an hour and a half for the privilege.
She tells People.com, "I wasn’t going to be able to vote on November 4 because I’m going to be in L.A. But there wasn’t a chance I was going to let this slip away. The line wrapped around the building but I can honestly tell you that it was worth the wait. I felt like I really accomplished something special." But Swift refuses to name which candidate she voted for, adding, "I went with my gut instinct. I wavered back and forth the entire time I was waiting in line and when I got into the voting booth, I said, ‘That’s the one I’m voting for,’ and I pressed the button. And I feel good about it!"

JAY-Z’S GLASTONBURY SET HAILED AS ‘MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT’ OF THE SUMMER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

Rap superstar JAY-Z has been honoured for his controversial headlining performance at this summer’s (08) legendary British music festival Glastonbury.
The Big Pimpin’ hitmaker, real name Shawn Carter, hit headlines earlier this year (08) when he was announced as the top act on the event’s main stage.
Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher slammed Glastonbury organisers for the move, insisting hip-hop music didn’t belong at the traditionally rock ‘n’ roll festival.
But Jay-Z defied his critics by delivering a stomping set - complete with an acoustic rendition of Oasis’ Wonderwall in answer to Gallagher’s comments.
And the rapper’s performance has been hailed by judges at the U.K. Festival Awards - he walked away with the Most Memorable Moment prize at the London ceremony on Thursday (30Oct08).
Other winning artists include Kings of Leon (Best Headline Act), The Prodigy (Best Dance Act), Biffy Clyro (Festival Rock Act), and The Ting Tings (Festival Pop Act).

McCREADY RELEASED FROM JAIL EARLY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

LATEST: Country singer MINDY McCREADY has been released from a Tennessee jail after serving just over half of a 60-day prison sentence for violating parole.
The fallen star, 32, was freed at 9am on Friday (31Oct08).
McCready voluntarily agreed to serve time after she was arrested for prescription drug fraud in June (08) - an incident which was considered a violation of her probation relating to a 2004 drug arrest. That conviction led to McCready losing custody of her two-year-old son, Zander.
But she managed to secure an early release by earning credit for helping keep the jail clean.
Lieutenant Mark Wainwright, spokesman for Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, says, "Good behaviour, a system that credits two days for each day served, and her job as a pod janitor here - all of that reduced her sentence."

COWELL SPLITS WITH SEYMOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Music mogul SIMON COWELL has reportedly split from his longterm girlfriend, British model TERRI SEYMOUR.
The couple has been dating for more than six years, but they are now said to have broken off their relationship after drifting apart over the last two months.
According to British newspaper the Daily Mirror, the beauty recently told friends,"We’ve split up. It’s very sad but we decided to go our separate ways.
It just wasn’t working out between us. There’s no one else involved and we want to remain friends." The pair has made no secret of their differing views on marriage and children, with Cowell insisting that he will never settle down, while Seymour confessed her longing to start a family.
The reports were further fuelled when Cowell turned up to the National TV Awards in London on Wednesday night (29Oct08) with another woman on his arm his ex-fiancee and former pop protegee, Sinitta.
The two have remained close since their split, with Cowell bringing Sinitta on board to help him mentor his group of contestants on British reality show The X Factor.
