Christmas has come early at the U.S. box office - romantic comedy FOUR CHRISTMASES has toppled vampire love story TWILIGHT to claim the Thanksgiving weekend top spot.
The film, starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, carved up a staggering $46.7 million (£31.1 million) in five-day ticket sales, and an estimated $31.7 million (£21.1 million) over the weekend (28-30Nov08) to score an impressive debut.
Family film Bolt climbed a spot to two, while former box office number ones Twilight and Quantum of Solace slip to three and four respectively.
Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman’s new epic, Australia, debuts at five with an estimated $14.8 million (£9.8 million), while Jason Statham’s Transporter 3 sequel enters the box office chart at seven and Harvey Milk biopic Milk debuts at 10.

Playwright and moviemaker JOHN PATRICK SHANLEY gave up his Hollywood dreams after losing his sight.
More than 18 years have passed since Shanley directed Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in Joe Versus The Volcano, but now he’s back after adapting his acclaimed play Doubt for the big screen.
And he admits sight and sanity issues drove him out of Los Angeles. He also adopted two children.
Shanley explains, "About 14 years ago I was losing my life in Los Angeles because it was becoming just about my career and I needed to go home to New York. I sort of fell apart, which I needed to do, and then I adopted two children and I got a crippling eye disease and had five rounds of eye surgery.
"I went blind in one eye… and that went on for five or six years." He returned to moviemaking once his kids had grown and his sight had returned: "My kids were 15 and I could see again, which is why I made the decision to do Doubt.
"As a writer you have to live a life and have real experiences of life. I remember saying when a great reversal came in my life like a bunch of bad reviews or an illness that there was another page of Shakespeare that I understand now that I didn’t understand before."

Mexican movie star GAEL GARCIA BERNAL can expect pal DIEGO LUNA to become a regular visitor when he completes his move to Madrid, Spain - because the new dad is obsessed with Spanish soccer star RAFAEL MARQUEZ.

A quirky new South American movie about a serial killer obsessed with JOHN TRAVOLTA’s SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER character has won the big prize at the Turin Film Festival in Italy.
Director Pablo Larrain’s Tony Manero was awarded the Best Film prize at the 26th annual event on Saturday (29Nov08).
The picture also scored the Italian festival’s Film Critics’ Award, and its star Alfredo Castro took home the Best Actor honour.
French actress Emmanuelle Devos won the Best Actress award for her role in Non-Dit (Unspoken), while Sean Baker’s drama The Prince of Broadway claimed Jury Prize for Best Film.

U.S. film fans made a pilgrimage to Cleveland, Ohio over the weekend - to visit the home of the Parkers in beloved festive classic A CHRISTMAS STORY.
Devotees travelled from all over America to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary with a convention, trips to the house where the movie was shot and the chance to meet cast members.
The 1983 film, starring former child actor Peter Billingsley, wasn’t a big hit when it was first released, but it has since become a must-see annual favourite, with back-to-back showings making up a 24-hour marathon every Christmas Day on U.S. TV networks.
More than 3,000 film fans attended the A Christmas Story convention at Cleveland’s Renaissance Hotel.

Rockers QUEEN are marking Monday’s (01Dec08) World Aids Day with a series of preview screenings of their concert movie LET THE COSMOS ROCK in Britain.
Thirty nine Vue cinemas across the U.K. will screen the David Mallet film throughout the day. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit British Aids charities.
Let the Cosmos Rock chronicles Queen & Paul Rodgers’ historic September (08) concert in the Ukraine, where the band performed for 350,000 fans.
World Aids Day has always meant a great deal to Queen founders Roger Taylor and Brian May - former frontman and friend Freddie Mercury died after contracting the virus.

Heavy rocker KNUT SCHREINER will be celebrating Christmas in style this year (08) after learning he’s clear of cancer.
The Turbonegro guitarist’s illness forced the cancellation of the Norwegian group’s dates in Europe and the U.S. earlier in the year (08), but now he’s been given the all clear by doctors.
In a statement to rock music website Blabbermouth.net, Schreiner writes, "As the year 2008 is coming to an end, I’m happy to inform you all that I’ve undergone successful treatment for lymphoma cancer. Last month I shook hands with the doctors and hugged the nurses and… hopefully once and for all.
"When it comes to cancer patients, they’re not willing to declare you completely cured until years have passed without further complications. But there are no signs of cancer in my system at least, and the chances of experiencing a fallback are rather small, and life has gone back to normal. I feel good and tell my friends that I’m cured.
"I’m very happy about being myself again and once again want to thank friends, family, fans, partners and band members for their great, great share of love and support throughout the year."

ORLANDO BLOOM and Aussie supermodel MIRANDA KERR are to wed after celebrating their engagement in Italy in late November (08), according to new reports.
Bloom asked the catwalk stunner to be his wife shortly before the couple jetted off for a romantic break in Venice last week (ends28Nov08).
The Sunday Telegraph in Sydney reports the wedding is being planned for next year (09).
In a recent interview, Victoria’s Secret lingerie model Kerr talked about her plans to leave the fashion world and start a family, but she dismissed rumours she and Bloom were to wed.

AMY WINEHOUSE’s husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL has refused reports he’s cheating on his singer wife with a German model, blasting the blonde for failing to put an end to the rumours herself.
Fielder-Civil recently walked free from jail after serving time in relation to a 2006 attack on a pub landlord.
He checked into a rehab centre in Surrey, south east England, soon after his release - but his wife has yet to visit him at the facility, prompting speculation of trouble in their marriage.
Tension between the couple was also said to have arisen over Fielder-Civil’s close relationship with Sophie Schandorff, who went to greet him upon his jail release and has been pictured visiting him in rehab.
But Fielder-Civil insists claims they are a couple are completely made up.
He says, "That girl used to go out with a friend of mine. Me and Amy went with her and her boyfriend on holiday together.
"Now she appears to be making out that she is my girlfriend. That’s total b**locks (crap). She just seems to want to get her face in the papers. Sophie means nothing to me and never has." Fielder-Civil has vowed to walk away from Winehouse and their marriage for the star’s own sake as she battles drug addiction.
His affair dismissal comes just days after the singer reportedly announced her marriage was over.

AMY WINEHOUSE’s husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL has vowed to walk away from his troubled marriage - because he blames himself for introducing the REHAB hitmaker to hard drugs.
Fielder-Civil was freed from prison in early November (08) after serving almost a year behind bars in relation to an attack on a pub landlord in 2006.
As part of his early release deal, he checked into a rehabilitation facility in Surrey, south east England, in a bid to kick his narcotics addiction once and for all.
But he fears Winehouse’s heavy dependence on drugs will lead her to an early grave - and it’s all because of him.
He tells Britain’s News of the World paper, "I made the biggest mistake of my life by taking heroin in front of her. I introduced her to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming. I feel more than guilty.
"I dragged Amy into it and without me there is no doubt that she would never have gone down that road. I ruined something beautiful. Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am not abandoning her. I am doing this out of love." Fielder-Civil claims he only realised the extent of their drug use when Winehouse collapsed following a drink and drugs binge at their north London home in August 2007 - and almost died.
He recalls, "I was there when Amy suffered her first seizure. I still break down thinking about it. We had been taking drugs all day long - heroin and crack.
"We started early and finished late. We didn’t really stop… and while I was getting out of my head, I wasn’t thinking that I was taking somebody with me.
Then my wife… just started shaking violently in front of me. I started crying and I lay her down in the recovery position… It was heartbreaking, seeing someone you love more than yourself, someone you would die for… on the floor shaking." The image of Winehouse in such a terrible state will forever haunt Fielder-Civil: "I will go to my grave with that picture of Amy asking me, Who are you? Who are you?’ She didn’t know who I was. I told Amy, ‘I’m your husband.’ "I knew then that I had ruined something beautiful. It was all my fault. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life." And now Fielder-Civil insists he won’t be returning home to his beloved wife when he completes his rehab stint on 30 December (08) - for her own good.
He adds, "Now the most dignified thing I can ever do in my life is to release somebody I love from my f**king grasp, from my clutches.
"When I see pictures of Amy and the state she’s in it tears my heart out. I just want to pick her up and help her. But I can’t - because I’m the man who caused it all. It scares me to death that I can’t fix Amy. But for her recovery I have to leave her alone.
"I will never stop wanting Amy an loving her and craving her. More than anything I am addicted to Amy. I will do anything for her - and that includes walking away. If something bad happened to Amy now I would kill myself without a question."

Supermodel KATE MOSS has suffered a scratched cheek after a bust-up over Christmas decorations with on/off boyfriend JAMIE HINCE.
The catwalk star worried fans earlier this week (ends28Nov08) when she stepped out in London recently sporting the painful marks, while rocker Hince was seen with a black eye.
But Moss insists it was just a petty lovers’ quarrel.
She says, "We had a fight yesterday about what to do for Christmas. We had a bit of a scuffle and I was wearing a chunky ring, which caught him right in the eye. It’s all okay now though.

BRITNEY SPEARS stormed the set of U.K. talent show THE X FACTOR on Saturday night (29Nov08) - marking her first performance on British soil in four years.
Following televised turns in Germany and France the previous nights (27-28Nov08), the star took to the stage of the Simon Cowell-fronted singing competition to perform her hit single Womanizer.
Wearing black hotpants and fishnet stockings, the star appeared to have gained in confidence as she shoved male dancers about and lip-synced a remix of her song.
When asked by the show’s host Dermot O’Leary if she had any advice for the contestants, the star said: "Good luck - and just keep doing it!" Spears then reportedly ventured to London nightclub Heaven, where her triumphant comeback took an unexpected downturn when police were called to handle the overcrowded venue.
According to fan reports on music website Pop Justice, hundreds of devotees flocked to the nightclub to catch a glimpse of Spears - but were disappointed when they were told she would not take the stage.
A partygoer explains, "…I was standing in the middle (and) I was feeling badly crushed and couldn’t move. People were trying to get out but there was really nowhere to go. Everyone was pushing on each other and it was becoming more and more horrific.
"At 2 (am), a bunch of new security blokes stormed the stage (who I can only assume were Britney’s team) and started pulling people from the front of the crowd because they were collapsing or getting injured.
"(Then) the DJ announced that Britney ‘would not be taking to the stage tonight’. People began getting really angry and fights broke out… The police then arrived to start breaking people up and everything stopped for 10 minutes…
"Obviously Britney’s people weren’t happy to send her on into such a dangerous environment for the audience, and good on them."

NAOMI CAMPBELL’s representative has dismissed reports she’s to wed her billionaire lover in a secret December (08) ceremony in Russia.
The catwalk beauty sparked rumours of an engagement to Russian Vladimir Doronin on Tuesday (25Nov08) after she was pictured attending a lavish magazine party in Moscow sporting a large emerald sparkler on her ring finger.
British tabloids are now claiming Campbell is planning a small, low-key wedding, after reportedly inviting close friends and family to join the couple for a special Christmas vacation.
A source tells the Sunday Mirror, "Naomi asked them to save the date and be prepared to travel to Russia. She’s keeping tight-lipped about exactly what is happening - and has sworn everyone to secrecy." BRITNEY SPEARS is anxious to prove to her father she is well enough to take care of herself - after growing fed up of having a chaperone with her at all times while on the road to recovery.
The pop star’s every move is being monitored by her father Jamie, on the orders of a court, following two hospitalisations earlier this year (08) and a series of public meltdowns.
And while Spears has seemingly managed to put her life back on track since her father was awarded conservatorship of her affairs, she insists she craves the personal freedom she once enjoyed.
Speaking in her new tell-all MTV documentary, Britney: For The Record, the star says, "I want my life back. I want to be able to drive my car. I want to be able to live in my house by myself. I want to say who’s going to be my security guard."

MADONNA’s ex GUY RITCHIE is making plans to open a new pub in the pop superstar’s native New York.
The director, who owns posh London pub The Punchbowl, is reportedly looking into buying a property in the Big Apple after New Yorkers visiting his Mayfair establishment expressed their desire to have a similar bar on the East Coast.
And according to reports, Ritchie is keen to use the new venture as an excuse to visit his sons Rocco, eight, and adopted David, three, who are expected to live in the U.S. with Madonna.
A source tells Britain’s Sunday Mirror, "A lot of New Yorkers told Punchbowl staff they wish they had something like that over there.
"And if Guy has business in New York he would have a great excuse to have proper days out with the kids.
"Guy is very dedicated to his films but his number one priority will always be the kids. He dreads the idea of becoming an ‘occasional dad’." Madonna and Ritchie’s divorce is expected to be finalised in December (08).
Under the terms of their divorce agreement, their two sons will share their time between both parents, while Madonna’s daughter Lourdes, from a previous relationship, will remain with her mother.
