ALLEN’S TEARS OVER BRAND/ROSS SCANDAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:30 pm

Pop star LILY ALLEN was left in tears after hearing about the recent phone prank scandal involving British comic RUSSELL BRAND.
Brand quit his job as a BBC radio presenter earlier this week (beg27Oct08) following outrage over a stunt in which he and fellow broadcaster Jonathan Ross recorded voicemail messages for Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs.
In the calls, the pair made lewd comments about Brand’s fling with 78-year-old Sachs’ granddaughter.
And the Smile hitmaker insists she was devastated by the saga that eventually cost Brand his job and saw Ross suspended for 12 weeks without pay.
She tells British publication The London Paper, "I cried all yesterday. I didn’t think it was too offensive. It wasn’t the funniest thing in the world but it wasn’t that bad." Allen also admits to having made similar prank calls herself.
She adds, "I make these p**s-taking calls all the time. I once called up (British singer) Kate Nash’s PR and said I was from a mouthwash company. I said we wanted Kate to front the brand. They told me they’d put it to Kate and get back to me."

BECKHAM MAGAZINE CASE TO GO TO TRIAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:30 pm

VICTORIA BECKHAM has lost a bid to get an immediate judgement in an lawsuit against a British publication - meaning the case is now set to go to trial.
The former Spice Girl launched legal action against Grazia magazine earlier this year (08), seeking damages for "hurt feelings and distress".
The star is accusing publishers Bauer Consumer Media Ltd of invasion of privacy over an article published in April (08) which claimed she was unhappy about her soccer ace husband David’s social life in Los Angeles.
Beckham had applied to the court for an immediate decision on the case - but at a hearing in London on Friday (31Oct08) Mr Justice Eady ruled it could not be settled without the arguments being presented in full.
Beckham’s lawyer, Hugh Tomlinson QC, told the court, "This is a publication which is simply designed to entertain the readers of Grazia for its own commercial purposes. It’s selling copies on the back of what are claimed to be revelations about Victoria Beckham’s private life and it is at that point that the law clearly draws a line." Bosses at Bauer Consumer Media deny invasion of privacy.

ROUTH’S DOUBTS OVER ‘DARK’ SUPERMAN FRANCHISE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:27 pm

SUPERMAN RETURNS star BRANDON ROUTH is against plans to show the comic book character’s darker side in a new movie.
The actor played the legendary superhero in Bryan Singer’s 2006 adaptation and he is rumoured to be stepping into the role once again for a sequel.
But Routh is adamant that plans to make the franchise much "darker" than Superman’s previous incarnations should not go ahead - because the Man of Steel will always be a clean-cut character.
He tells Moviehole.net, "I don’t know how much darker you want to make it necessarily. You make the stakes higher, you make the villain darker, I think that’s a way to do it. But I don’t think Superman himself needs to be darker.
He definitely has to struggle.
"But I don’t think Superman should ever be dark and brooding, that’s not his nature. And that’s now what people want to see."

BROLIN SWAPS GAMBLING FOR WALL STREET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Hollywood actor JOSH BROLIN enjoys trading on the stock market - because it stops him gambling on horse races.
The W star admits the profits he’s garnered from his Wall Street decisions have allowed him the freedom to pick and choose which films he makes.
And stock market trading gives him the same buzz as betting - without the odds stacked against him.
Brolin says, "I like to do it. It enables me to offset movies that I might otherwise have had to do for the money.
"Plus it stopped me gambling. I used to go to Vegas and play the horses, and then I realised how ridiculous that was. There is no winning in gambling, but there is on the stock market. Maybe it’s not trillions of dollars. Maybe it’s just five bucks for lunch. Who cares, it’s all good."

OLSEN WILL STEER KIDS AWAY FROM ACTING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Actress ASHLEY OLSEN has vowed to steer her children away from pursuing a career in entertainment because the industry has become so "ugly".
The 22-year-old and sister Mary-Kate began filming their first starring roles in U.S. TV series Full House at nine-months-old before launching a media empire with their company Dualstar in 1993.
But she is convinced her own children would have a less pleasant experience growing up in the limelight than her own.
When asked of her ambitions for her potential daughter, she says, "I would definitely want her to have a job and understand what it’s like to work and how important it is to be something greater than yourself. But being in this industry or the industry I was brought up in, probably not. It’s pretty ugly.
"We worked after school and when we weren’t on set we were in school. We never came across any problems. It was before the whole paparazzi phase, so it wasn’t that bad."
