MARR DENIES THE SMITHS COMEBACK
THE SMITHS star JOHNNY MARR has quashed speculation the rock group is set to reform for a special one-off gig.
British newspaper The Sun alleged on Friday (24Oct08) that the rockers, who split in 1987 after five years together, were set to reunite to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California next year (09).
The reported reunion would have been one of the most surprising in rock history, as Marr is said to have had almost no contact with frontman and fellow songwriter Morrissey since their bitter break-up.
The pair were even dragged through a court battle in the mid-1990s when drummer Mike Joyce successfully sued Morrissey and Marr over unpaid royalties.
And the guitarist’s manager has dismissed the rumour they are planning to reunite, telling Uncut.co.uk the reports are "rubbish".
