Canadian actress CAROLINE RHEA has given birth to her first child with her longtime boyfriend, comedian COSTAKI ECONOMOPOULOS.
The couple welcomed baby daughter, Ava, on Monday (20Oct08). She weighed eight pounds, 15 ounces (4.1 kilograms).
Rhea tells People.com: "We wanted the shortest first name possible, since her last name is the alphabet. It was either that or Emmy, because I’ve always wanted an Emmy." Rhea first announced her pregnancy in May (08).

Actress CHARLOTTE RAMPLING and director WONG KAR WAI will be honoured at this year’s Stockholm Film Festival in the Swedish capital.
The Swimming Pool star Rampling will be presented with a lifetime achievement award for her "impressive portrayals of some of the most memorable female characters in modern cinema", according to a festival spokesperson.
Hong Kong director Wong - who made 2006 movie My Blueberry Nights - will receive the visionary award for his "unique ability to cast the creatures of the night in a romantic and moody light".
The festival takes place from 20 to 30 November (08).

Actress MEAN SUVARI flew to Italy on Thursday (23Oct08) to plan her 2010 wedding to SIMONE SESTITO - after deciding her fiance’s homeland is the perfect place to walk down the aisle.
The American Beauty star accepted the music producer/promoter’s proposal during a Jamaican vacation last summer (08).
And Suvari confesses she knew she wanted "a nice, big traditional Italian wedding" as soon as Sestito whisked her off to Italy for a romantic break early on in their relationship.
She tells People.com: "We want to marry in Italy. There is a lot of planning we want to do. We were there in August, and everything was closed in August, so we want to look at a lot of cathedrals and find a place."

Hollywood actress EVA MENDES faced disapproval from her mother after posing for a provocative photoshoot for a fashion magazine.
The Hitch star stripped off for a series of raunchy pictures for Italian Vogue earlier this year (08).
But the shots - which showed Mendes topless and in a variety of sexy poses were not popular with the star’s mother, who voiced her concerns to her daughter.
Mendes says, "I was lucky enough to do the cover of Italian Vogue, that’s a big deal for me. And they were very edgy photos. My mother did not like them and then she made me realise something.
"My mother, who is very Cuban and very old-school, said, ‘They are beautiful but you don’t have to do that.’ "And I said, ‘Mummy, I know I don’t have to do that. I want to because it’s the people I associate myself with (such as photographer) Steven Meisel and Italian Vogue.’ If it was any other publication I would never do (these pictures). So she really made me think, there’s people out there thinking you have to do things and I never feel I have to do things." Mendes previously stripped off for a Calvin Klein fragrance advert, which was deemed too raunchy for American TV.

Veteran actor TONY CURTIS credits his sixth wife with dragging him back from the brink after a bout of pneumonia left him near death.
The illness in 2006 left the 83 year old star so weak and delirious, he had visions of his brother Julius - who died 70 years before.
And Curtis insists only the presence of his wife, 37-year-old Jill Vandenberg Curtis, saved his life.
He tells the National Enquirer, "Her caring for me is the only reason I am able to sit here and talk to you. She showed me what a marriage could be - how to care for each other in a very simplistic way. Jill saved my life." The episode forced Curtis to think about what happens to him when he does pass away - and he now has a plan for his remains: "I may have them take my ashes and spread them all over Las Vegas."

British rockers KAISER CHIEFS feel like they’ve been "robbed" after their new album OFF WITH THEIR HEADS leaked online days before the disc was due to hit stores.
The band released the LP in the U.K. on Monday (20Oct08), but the stars were dismayed to find that eager fans had already started downloading it illegally on the Internet.
And drummer Nick Hodsgon has compared it to being "burgled".
He tells British radio station Xfm, "We felt a little bit robbed. Not literally, but I searched ‘Kaiser Chiefs blogs’ in Google. Sorry, it’s what I do. Suddenly it was all ‘Kaiser Chiefs Off With Their Heads, Kaiser Chiefs Off With Their Heads’.
"There was (sic) millions of them. It felt a little bit like somebody had burgled your house. It was a bit gloomy."

Country rocker TOBY KEITH is voting Republican in the forthcoming U.S.
presidential election, after candidate JOHN McCAIN’s running mate SARAH PALIN seduced him into switching his allegiance.
While many American celebrities are backing McCain’s opponent Barack Obama, Keith insists the Democrats have lost his vote.
He says, "They’ve run me out of the (Democratic Party). They don’t represent anything I stand for anymore. But there are just as many sickos on the right.
That’s why I’m not registering Republican. But I don’t see things right and left, I see them right and wrong." And he is voting Republican purely because of vice presidential candidate Palin - because she’s the closest thing to a "human" politician.
Keith tells People magazine, "I think she is the best thing in politics at that level I’ve ever seen. I hate politicians, and she’s as far from one as you can get. She’s a mother, she’s a human being. And I can sympathise with her.
She went from being an unknown governor to being on the cover of every magazine."

LATEST: A Californian LED ZEPPELIN fan has vowed to continue with his attempt to land the rock legends a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - despite rocker JIMMY PAGE refusing to endorse the campaign.
Rocky Dickerson launched the petition after seeing the group perform at the Ahmet Ertegün Tribute Concert in London last year (07).
He has since written to each of the surviving bandmembers and their management to get their approval for the nomination - but Page has turned down the request.
A statement released by Page’s publicist said, "He (Page) has asked me to thank you for this interest but he does not feel that this is something that he can endorse." And while Dickerson admits the star’s snub has come as a surprise, he’s refusing to let it hinder his campaign - urging other fans to join him in the fight.
In a post on his website dedicated to the band, he says, "I must admit I was taken aback by Jimmy’s non-endorsement of the campaign drive. I’m sure he has his reasons… and all of them possibly valid.
"But I am so committed to doing this I cannot simply roll over and play dead…
"Since I heard from Jimmy’s representative, a lot of things have gone through my mind. Yes, I did think of giving up for a moment, and if I had wanted to take the easy way out, I would have. But I feel so passionately that the fans need to do this to honour Led Zeppelin. It is and probably will be the only thing we can do on such a major scale. So once again, join with me and sign the petition, do whatever you can to convince Jimmy, Robert (Plant) and Jonesy (John Paul Jones) to hear us and appreciate what we are trying to do."

GUNS N’ ROSES’ manager has likened the band’s long-awaited new album CHINESE DEMOCRACY to MICHAELANGELO’s masterpiece on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
The LP has been 14 years in the making and cost millions of dollars to for frontman Axl Rose to produce.
It’s finally due to hit stores next month (Nov08) - and Guns N’ Roses manager Andy Gould insists it is well worth the wait.
Gould tells EW.com, "Art and commerce have always made strange bedfellows.
When they asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, they didn’t say, ‘Can you do it in the fourth quarter?’ so they can make their numbers. Great art sometimes takes time."

Rapper THE GAME was forced to pull out of a scheduled performance with ICE CUBE at the BET Hip Hop Awards last week (18Oct08) because he was taking care of his sister, who had been injured in a drive-by shooting.
The Dreams hitmaker, real name Jayceon Taylor, was due to hit the stage with Ice Cube and soul singer Musiq at the Atlanta, Georgia ceremony on Saturday, but had to skip the show after his sibling, aspiring rapper B-Fly, was involved in the violent incident in Compton, California.
B-Fly escaped serious injury and was only grazed by a bullet in the shooting last week (ends17Oct08), according to AllHipHop.com.
The 2008 BET Hip Hop Awards are set to air in the U.S. on the cable channel on Thursday night (23Oct08), when the full list of winners will be unveiled.

MILEY CYRUS has blasted critics of her relationship with model/singer JUSTIN GASTON - insisting he has helped her get through so many difficult times.
The 15-year-old has been linked to 20-year-old Gaston - a former contestant on reality TV show Nashville Star - for several weeks, sending gossips into a spin over their relationship status.
After calling in to Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS FM show on Thursday (23Oct08) morning, Cyrus played coy, telling the host they "maybe" or "maybe not" be dating.
But she says she’s tired of critics talking about their five-year age gap, adding: "Everyone started judging us as soon as we started hanging out… After my last two years, there’s been a lot of things that happened, so I’ve learned just not to judge anyone and go into our friendship with an open mind and not really worry about the age or anything.
"More than anything, he’s really helped me move on from a lot of things. He’s a really great Christian guy. He’s gone through stuff, and I’ve gone through stuff, and everyone goes through that. I think it’s really awesome that we have that in common - that we can talk about it and that we can understand (each other)… he gets it." And the Hannah Montana star insists the pair’s families have no opposition toward their relationship.

BRITNEY SPEARS has "closed a chapter" in her troubled life after her driving without a license charges were dropped earlier this week (begs20Oct08).
The Toxic hitmaker’s trial for a driving misdemeanour was scrapped on Tuesday (21Oct08) after a Van Nuys, California jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
Judge James Steele subsequently dismissed a criminal charge for driving without a valid California license in August 2007.
And Spears’ lawyer Michael Flanagan has hailed the mistrial as a turning point for the star, who has endured a difficult 12 months since she lost custody of her boys Sean Preston and Jayden James to her ex-husband Kevin Federline last November (07).
Flanagan says, "It marks a turnaround for her. This case was a thorn in her side for more than a year, a reminder of the bad old days.
"She’s thrilled the court system, for once, worked in her favour." Spears has since gotten her personal life back on track and is preparing to make her pop comeback with the release of her new album, Circus, this December (08).

Socialite Hilton is an admirer of Jolie - who often tops Most Beautiful lists around the world - but insists she doesn’t believe the Tomb Raider star makes the most of her stunning features.
But she does have respect for another female celebrity - U.S. TV star Delta Burke.

TOM CRUISE has brushed off reports he has bought multiple apartments in a New York building to take care of his fitness needs and house his personal staff.
The actor reportedly bought a 10th-floor apartment in the East Village, Manhattan building in 1985.
And according to the New York Post, Cruise and his wife, actress Katie Holmes, have purchased multiple lofts in the high-rise in a bid to bring their lavish Hollywood lifestyle to the Big Apple - where Holmes is currently appearing on Broadway.
A source tells the newspaper, "Tom and Katie now keep five units in the building. They turned one into (daughter) Suri’s playroom. One they use for a gym, and two apartments are for staff. In the past couple of months they’ve bought up all these other apartments. They’re all separate and on different floors." But a spokesperson for Cruise has rubbished the report and denied the couple is buying up units in the building.

ANGELINA JOLIE has conceded she will marry partner BRAD PITT one day - to keep their children happy.
The Wanted beauty has a brood of six with Pitt - adopted kids Maddox, seven, Pax, four, and Zahara, three, and biological children Shiloh, two, and newborn twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie and Pitt, who was previously married to Jennifer Aniston, have always maintained they will not wed until same-sex marriages are legalised across the U.S.
The Ocean’s Eleven star said in the past, "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able." But in a new interview with the Italian version of Vanity Fair magazine, Jolie admits marriage is inevitable for the couple, if only to please their children.
She says, "Usually people fall in love and everything revolves around the ritual of marriage, children are an afterthought. We did everything backwards.
"But sooner or later it will be the kids who ask us (to get married). You know, they see films and start asking questions. Such as, ‘Why are Shrek and Fiona married and you’re not?’"

Actor JEREMY PIVEN credits theatre legend JOHN MALKOVICH for his debut Broadway performance - because the star "put the fear of God" into him after he took on the role.
Piven makes his Broadway debut in David Mamet play Speed-The-Plow on Thursday (23Oct08).
But he admits his long hiatus from the stage to take on his role as cut-throat agent Ari Gold in hit U.S. show Entourage left him nervous.
He tells the New York Post, "Before I ever hit on camera I worked in theatre.
I come from a theatre family. But after Entourage, which is about Hollywood, another vehicle with the same backdrop was not what I had in mind. Besides, I was tired. I’ve worked 20 years with no stopping. I actually needed a break…
"This show, you’re a slave to the words. Such dialogue and timing that it’s a f***ing symphony. So I’m talking to (John Malkovich) in Toronto. He’s always been one of my major inspirations. As a kid, I saw him for the first time. His work was so alive, so visceral. So I tell him I’m going to do this, and he asked, ‘How long do you have to rehearse?’ I said, ‘Three weeks.’ He said, ‘Not enough time.’ John Malkovich put the fear of God into me." But Piven insists he’s ready to take the stage, because the nerve-wracking experience pales in comparison to his other life challenges.
He adds: "As for the nervousness of being on Broadway… I’m really not scared. I lost my father and got through it. You survive turning points. You go on. You think about what really matters in life. I know to just work really hard and not let the trappings of Broadway get to me."

A man named in a lawsuit alongside U.S. TV host JAY LENO over a stolen vintage car has committed suicide.
Dennis Ricca shot himself in the head days after the estate of an heir to the famous U.S. department store Macy’s filed a lawsuit against him and Leno.
John Strauss’ estate was suing the pair after two of Strauss’ vintage cars were allegedly unlawfully sold at an auction in 2005.
According to a lawsuit filed by the estate last week (14Oct08) at New York’s Supreme Court, Leno, host of America’s The Tonight Show, purchased one of the cars at the auction.
Ricca is believed to have purchased the second car and "knowingly participated in certain unlawful purported auctions and sales", reports TMZ.com.
A source tells the New York Post the lawsuit led him to take his own life.

Supermodel CAROL ALT has blamed her battle with cervical and uterine cancer for causing her divorce from professional hockey player RON GRESCHNER, according to new court documents.
The beauty filed the papers in her $9 million (£5.5 million) lawsuit against Greschner ahead of the hearing on Tuesday (28Oct08) in Manhattan federal court.
Alt claims she was cheated out of her share of an $18 million (£11 million) profit from an investment made during their marriage - a charge Greschner alleges is an attempt by Alt to make his finances public.
According to the New York Post, court documents reveal the estranged pair finally decided to end their marriage because Alt "could not conceive" as a result of her diagnosis with cervical and uterine cancer.
The documents add: "because Greschner strongly desired children, the two decided that Greschner should be with someone who could so provide him." Alt calls their 1997 split after 14 years of marriage "extremely amicable".
The pair continued to live together for more than a year afterwards, and were "intimate with each other well after the separation agreement was executed" but finally divorced in 2001 because Alt couldn’t conceive.
