Colombian singer JUANES has swept the board at the MTV Latin America Awards, taking home four trophies.
The rocker beat off stiff competition to take home the Artist of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Rock Artist and Best Artist - Central awards at the event in Guadalajara, Mexico on Thursday (16Oct08).
Juanes, who performed his hit song La Vida es un Ratico, dedicated one of his awards to Metallica, who also played at the event, saying, "I am here thanks to Metallica. When I was 13, I listened to Metallica’s first record and I went to buy an electric guitar. I decided to become a musician." Other performers on the night included German band Tokio Hotel, Mexican singer Julieta Venegas, and Katy Perry, who was left red-faced after singing her hit song I Kissed A Girl.
After finishing the track, the pop star dived head-first into a giant, four-tiered pink cake, and proceeded to slip repeatedly as she tried to climb to her feet, before eventually crawling offstage.
Artists who also scooped gongs at the ceremony include band Cafe Tacuba who walked away with Best Alternative Artist, and Chilean group Kudai, who were handed Best Pop Artist as well as Best Group or Duet.
The Video Of The Year honour was given to up-and-coming Mexican pop band Belanova Argentine, while rockers Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, who performed via satellite from Buenos Aires, Argentina, were given the Lifetime Achievement award.

R&B hitmaker NE-YO is taking his fledgling acting career one step further he’s to star in and executive produce new movie VENICE BEACH.
The Closer singer, real name Shaffer Smith, made his acting debut in 2006’s Save The Last Dance 2, and went on to land a part in last year’s (07) Stomp The Yard.
But Ne-Yo is now looking to get involved in the movie production side of Hollywood with the release of Venice Beach. The movie, written by Step Up’s Duane Adler, is about an 18-year-old woman who goes in pursuit of her singing dreams after meeting a successful musician, played by Ne-Yo.
In addition to his roles in front of and behind the camera, Ne-Yo will also write the soundtrack to the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

SHANNA MOAKLER refused to fly on the plane that crashed and nearly took her ex-husband TRAVIS BARKER’s life - because she had a premonition something bad would happen.
Moakler, who starred with the rocker in their 2005 reality TV series Meet The Barkers, was due to travel with the drummer and pal Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein on the private jet, which crashed in South Carolina last month (Sep08), killing four passengers.
But her intuition warned her not to board the plane, although she admits she didn’t have the courage to alert Barker.
She tells Us Weekly, "I was supposed to go with (Travis) to South Carolina, and at the last minute, I had this gnarly feeling and said, ‘I don’t think we should fly together anymore’.
"God forbid something ever happened… our kids wouldn’t have both parents.
Instead of flying a commercial flight back home, they decided to take a private jet. He emailed me pictures of the plane and wrote, ‘It’s really small and scary’. I had a bad feeling, but didn’t want to sound strange, so I said, ‘Be safe’." And the former Miss USA insists she was "deeply hurt" after the former Blink 182 star wrote in a recent MySpace blog that he hasn’t seen her since "the week (he) checked in", adding that the couple share "a love that will always be there".
She adds: "Trav and I are so crazy. We are off for one week, on the next. I haven’t thought about the long term. We’re just trying to get him well and home.
"I would never abandon anyone in his condition, and I have made sure he had a support system. My feelings are deeply hurt. I wish him a speedy recovery and am thankful he’s alive."

BRITNEY SPEARS is giving back to her fans by launching a rejuvenated version of her official website - teasing her supporters by telling them she’ll take them "where no paparazzi lens ever could".
The pop superstar has relaunched her site, www.BritneySpears.com, to give her followers the chance to catch exclusive interviews and videos.
And in her first video blog on the newly-styled site, the Toxic singer thanks her supporters for their loyalty - and promises them more insight into her life than ever before.
She says in the black and white footage, "Hi everybody, welcome to the new BritneySpears.com. I want to thank you for all of your support, it really means a lot to me.
"I’m going to take you where no paparazzi lens ever could. I’ll be updating the site all the time with new videos and photos and lots of other cool stuff."

LATEST: BRITNEY SPEARS’ father JAMIE stuck to the statement of his daughter’s lawyer while testifying in her driving license trial on Thursday (16Oct08) insisting she only stays in California to be close to her children.
The Toxic star’s lawyer Michael Flanagan opened his argument against the driving without a license charge in Van Nuys, California, telling the jury that the star doesn’t need a California state license - because of her complicated residency situation.
Spears, who was not present in court, was arrested and charged with failing to produce a valid license following a car crash last year (07).
She had a valid Louisiana state license, but not a California one.
And Jamie Spears, the singer’s father and conservator of her estate, backed up Flanagan’s defence, telling the court that there is a plan in motion for Spears to move back to her native Louisiana after she regains custody of her sons Jayden James and Sean Preston from their father Kevin Federline.
He said, "Her home is Louisiana. There’s plans (to move Spears back) right now.
"We’re here (in California) with her kids. We have visitation rights. We have to stay to augment those rights." Elder Spears added that they would move back to Louisiana once they had rights to take her children out of the state of California, telling jurors, "We can travel with the kids (out of state) and spend time there." Closing arguments are scheduled for Friday (17Oct08) morning.
If convicted, Spears faces a maximum six months in jail and a $1,000 (£540) fine.

GUY RITCHIE will have to deal with another powerful woman once his divorce battle with MADONNA hits the courtroom - he has reportedly hired one of Britain’s top female lawyers.
The filmmaker has hired revered divorce lawyer Helen Ward to pit against his estranged pop superstar wife and her attorney - rumoured to be Fiona Shackleton, the lawyer famed for represented Paul McCartney in his divorce from Heather Mills earlier this year (08).
According to London’s Evening Standard newspaper, Ritchie is taking advice from Ward after hearing of her credentials in the divorce law arena - she settled the U.K.’s biggest ever divorce payout. Ward also lists Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber as a client.
Ritchie has allegedly approached Ward as she is reported to be "particularly adept at protecting the interests of fathers", an aspect the director is keen to focus on after allegedly making it clear he doesn’t want a share of Madonna’s $525 million (£284 million) fortune in their settlement.
The pair announced their split on Wednesday (15Oct08) after months of speculation surrounding the state of their seven-and-a-half year marriage.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star OLESYA RULIN can’t stop pinching herself - because she thinks her success is just a dream and she’ll wake up back in the tiny Russian village where she was born.
The 22-year-old actress was seven when her family relocated to America - and her dream of becoming a star began.
But she can still remember only dreaming of landing a show like High School Musical.
She tells WENN, "I grew up in Russia in a little tiny village with 12 houses and no indoor plumbing and my dad hunted for our food.
"I moved to America when I was seven, through a lot of work and a lot of luck from my parents. I wake up every morning thinking, ‘I’m here now working for Disney Channel and I represent Mickey Mouse, and that’s awesome.’" And she hopes her story inspires other hopefuls: "What gives me courage to take big steps is there are possibilities. QUANTUM OF SOLACE director MARC FORSTER insists BOND should never copy his rival big screen spy JAMES BOURNE - because the two characters are complete opposites.
Forster is adamant Daniel Craig’s 007 is so different from Matt Damon’s role in the hit Bourne franchise that the two should never be compared by film fans.
He says, "I feel there’s a huge difference - it’s like apples and oranges.
Stylistically alone, Bond should never be in the Bourne vein. Bond has a different kind of quality. He can still transport you."

Teen pin-up ZAC EFRON is still waiting for the suit he was promised as a keepsake from the third and final HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL movie.
The young actor asked if he could keep the smart outfit his character Troy wears in the new film - but costume heads held it back just in case Efron had to re-shoot scenes.
But, after seeing the suit displayed at the film’s premiere, Efron thinks it’s time he gets what he was promised.
He tells WENN, "I actually asked to keep one of Troy’s suits from the movie and everyone said, ‘No, we might have re-shoots, so we have to keep it.’ "I was like, ‘All right, that’s cool.’ But when we walked into the El Capitan theatre (in Los Angeles) and my suit was on a mannequin like, ‘Please come touch the suit,’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding? Re-shoots?’ It’s still sitting in the theatre, I’m sure. I want that suit."

LATEST: DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES actor GALE HAROLD’s condition is "improving" after doctors rushed to stop swelling on his brain following his motorcycle accident on Tuesday (14Oct08).
The star, 38, was rushed to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he is currently undergoing tests and treatment.
The actor is suffering from swelling on the brain as well as a fractured shoulder.
Officials at the hospital have confirmed he still in intensive care under observation, but they expect a full recovery.
He will be transferred to L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center once beds are available.

Scottish singer SANDI THOM has vowed to help try and ease the food crisis gripping impoverished countries after her recent visit to Malawi.
The rocker is supporting charity Oxfam’s bid to raise $27 million (£15 million) to provide relief for the African country’s poorest as food prices soar throughout the world.
And the star saw first hand the devastation the lack of affordable food has brought upon the Malawian people.
She says, "The visit opened my eyes to the extent of the poverty, the harsh reality of how some people live and how rising food prices are affecting them.
"You have to ask yourself what you would do if you were in the situation many Malawians face."

British R&B star JAY SEAN isn’t too blue after missing out on a MOBO award in London on Wednesday (15Oct08) - because he has signed a deal with LIL WAYNE’s U.S. record label.
The singer, who lost out on the Best U.K. Male honour to rapper Dizzee Rascal at the ceremony for British urban music, has inked a deal to release his latest album My Own Way in America.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN took to the stage with BILLY JOEL on Thursday (16Oct08) to rouse support for U.S. presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA.
Just two weeks before the impending American elections in November (08), the legendary rockers joined forces to raise funds for Obama’s campaign to get to the White House.

Re-reading IAN FLEMING’s JAMES BOND books made movie hunk DANIEL CRAIG broody and miserable - and that was a good thing.
The British stud, who first played 007 in Casino Royale, is back for more Bond in new film Quantum of Solace - and he wanted to portray the darker side of the suave superspy.
Craig recalled reading the books when he was younger and finding Bond a workaholic depressive - and that’s the character he wanted to channel in the latest adventure.
He tells Playboy magazine, "I wanted to play around with the flaws in his character. It was much more interesting than having him be perfect and polished.
"I got most of my inspiration from Ian Fleming’s books. I reread them. In the books, Bond is suave and sophisticated, yes… but there’s also a flawed aspect of Bond.
"In the novels he is quite a depressive character. When he’s not working, he’s at his worst… I can relate."

FANTASY ISLAND actor HERVE VILLECHAIZE’s life story is to feature in a new biopic.
The pint-sized star, who played Tattoo in the beloved TV series, lived a tragic, often violent life and committed suicide in 1993.
The screenplay for the new film, My Dinner With Herve, has been written by journalist Sacha Gervasi, who conducted the last interview with Villechaize days before his death.
Gervasi also plans to direct the movie.
He tells Variety, "Herve wasn’t just a pop culture icon; he was one of the most charming, cultured and dangerous people I’ve ever met. His is the story of a unique misfit trying to find his place in the world."
