Actor DENIS LEARY has sparked outrage among activists for children with autism - insisting parents are just using the disorder to explain their kids’ academic "laziness".
Leary talks about the brain development disorder in his new book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid.
He writes: "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can’t compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks..
. to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons
. I don’t (care) what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - your kid is NOT autistic
. He’s just stupid
. Or lazy
. Or both." But the actor’s comments have sparked outrage at The Autism Society of America.
A spokesperson for the group tells the New York Post: "For Mr
. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous..
. (His) remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago."

Bollywood singer/actor SHAH RUKH KHAN has cancelled three gigs in Germany after his tour promoter "breached its contract".
The star was due to play three gigs in the nation as part of his Temptation Reloaded world tour, but they were pulled following arguments between the tour’s Indian sponsor and the agent in Germany.
Mohammed Morani, director of event management firm Cineyug, says, "The German promoters, SensAsian Media Ltd, to whom we gave the contract for promotion, venue booking, etc have breached the contract and that is why we have cancelled the show." However, a spokesman for SensAsian Media Ltd claims no reason was given for the cancellation, branding the move "rude".
The representative challenges, "Cancelling three concerts with about 10,000 tickets sold at the last minute is rudeness (sic) to the fans." Morani has also confirmed that a string of dates in Spain have been cancelled too.
He adds, "We have also cancelled the Spain tour because just having a show in Spain would have been a costly affair."

Country star BRAD PAISLEY is to become a dad for the second time - his actress wife KIMBERLY WILLIAMS-PAISLEY is pregnant.
The couple has been married for five years, and already has a 20-month-old son, named Huck.
And According to Jim star Williams-Paisley is delighted to be adding to their family.
She says, "We’re having so much fun with out little boy Huck, and we are thrilled that he will have a sibling.

BJORK was the big winner at the U.K. Video Music Awards on Tuesday (14Oct08), scooping three top prizes.
The Icelandic pop star took home triple honours for the promo of her single Wanderlust - Video Of The Year, Best Indie/Alternative Video and Best Art Direction - at the London ceremony, which honours excellence in British music video production.
Meanwhile, British singer Kate Nash was awarded Best Pop Video for Foundations, Supergrass’ Bad Blood was named Best Rock Video, and Justice were handed the gong for Best International Video for Stress.

Hollywood star JACK NICHOLSON refuses to woo the ladies in public - because he is embarrassed by his age.
The actor, 71, admits it "doesn’t look right" to see a man of his years prowling for female company.
He says, "It’s not so nice when you are 71 and looking for some action. I feel uncomfortable doing it in the limelight - so from now on I’ll do it when it’s right." Former SPICE GIRL MELANIE BROWN is adamant she has no plans to hire a bodyguard - despite her recent brush with a crazed attacker at an airport.
The singer was left shaken after she and her one-year-old daughter Angel Iris and husband Stephen Belafonte were confronted by an angry man shortly after arriving at London’s Heathrow airport on Sunday (12Oct08).
Belafonte shielded Brown when the unnamed aggressor began shouting abuse and pretended to shoot them, screaming, "I’ll get a knife and stab you", according to U.S. website TMZ.com.
But the singer insists she is determined not to change her way of life and hire security staff following the incident.
She says, "It wouldn’t make me feel safer. I think it draws more attention to yourself. In my mind I believe that what happened at the airport doesn’t happen often." And Brown, 33, has hailed her spouse a hero for coming to her rescue during the terrifying ordeal.
She adds: "I’m lucky my husband is so protective. The family always travels together, which makes me feel safe. I still don’t know what was going through that man’s head at the airport… I was half asleep and I looked up and it was all going on. But my husband’s quick reaction made sure we were safe.
"Maybe that man just got out of bed on the wrong side that morning. Who knows people’s reasons."

SUM 41 frontman DERYCK WHIBLEY has slammed reports he and wife AVRIL LAVIGNE are on the verge of divorce.
The rocker has taken aim at U.S
. tabloid National Enquirer, which earlier this week (begs13Oct08) published a story alleging the couple, who wed in 2006, have "been growing apart for months".
And the star, 28, insists he is upset that the completely fabricated story has spread around the world.
A statement released by Whibley’s management firm Nettwerk Music Group reads: "For the record, we strongly deny the inference of marital problems between Avril and Deryck
. We also strongly deny the National Enquirer claims of any other liaisons.
"Deryck has in fact been traveling through Asia performing with Avril as evidenced by the numerous YouTube videos." Whibley adds: "I’m actually very surprised that so many media outlets picked this story up

QUENTIN TARANTINO’s upcoming movie INGLORIOUS BASTARDS has caused confusion among film fans after the spelling of its title was changed.
The movie - starring Brad Pitt - was originally billed with the standard spelling Inglorious Bastards - but studio bosses at Universal Pictures have now changed the name to Inglourious Basterds.
A spokesman for the film’s British publicists says, "We are not entirely sure the reasons why it has been changed. We think it just has to be one of those Tarantino-esque things.
"All we do know is that is definitely the title from now on." The film is due for release next year (09).

Hellraiser OZZY OSBOURNE has recalled his famous bat-biting incident - and likens the taste to a fast food burger.
The rocker notoriously grabbed a bat and chewed its head off during a concert in Iowa in 1982.
And Osbourne still relishes the taste - insisting it reminded him of junk food.

Rapper C-MURDER is appealing to a U.S. court to postpone his second murder trial because the judge presiding over his case is seeking re-election to the Judicial District Court post.
The New Orleans, Louisiana star - brother of rap mogul Master P - is currently awaiting a retrial over charges he shot dead 16-year-old Steve Thomas in a club in 2002.
He was convicted and handed a life sentence for second-degree murder in 2003, but it was overturned in 2006.
Jury selection in the retrial of C-Murder, real name Corey Miller, was due to begin on Tuesday (14Oct08), but the star’s lawyer Ron Rakosky filed papers in court last Friday (10Oct08) seeking a temporary delay.
Judge Martha Sassone, who presided over the original trial, is also due to oversee proceedings in the new case - but she is currently standing for re-election after 18 years at the 24th Judicial District Court.
Rakosky wants his client’s retrial to be put back at least three weeks, and until after the U.S. presidential election on 4 November (08).

ANGELINA JOLIE insists she loves America - despite choosing to give birth abroad and adopt kids from foreign countries.
The Tomb Raider star and her partner chose to bring twins Knox and Vivienne into the world in a Nice, France hospital in July (08) and baby daughter Shiloh was born in Namibia in May 2006.
Meanwhile, the couple’s adopted kids hail from Asia and Africa.
But Jolie insists America will always be her children’s home - even though none of them were born there.
She says, "The children all have American passports and are American, too, but I also think that one of the best things about America is that we are a melting pot, a mix of many, many different races and nations.
"My kids were born in different countries, in Asia, Africa, and Europe, and I expect them to learn about those places and to appreciate all other parts of the world, not just their own.
"Yes, they have their own nationalities and are very proud of them, but that certainly doesn’t diminish the fact that they’re American. To me, that is what being American is."

LATEST: JANET JACKSON’s mystery illness has been confirmed as migraine-related vertigo - despite her brother RANDY earlier denying he had revealed she suffered from the condition.
The superstar singer has been forced to cancel nine dates on her Rock Witchu tour, after the illness stopped her from performing.
Jackson axed her first show in Montreal, Canada on 29 September (08) after checking into a city hospital.
Soon after, her brother Randy reportedly told a Michael Jackson fan site that his sister had to withdraw from the show because she suffered from vertigo - a condition which makes the sufferer feel unbalanced and dizzy.
Randy quickly denied the reports, insisting an imposter broke the bogus news, insisting the exclusive "interview never happened".
However, Jackson’s representatives have now released a statement stating the star has been diagnosed with "migraine-associated vertigo" - dizziness brought on by severe headaches.
A spokesperson tells E! News, "After a thorough medical evaluation, it has been confirmed that Janet’s symptoms are being caused by a rare form of migraine called vestibular migraine or migraine-associated vertigo for which she is currently receiving treatment." And her manager, Kenneth Crear, insists the star is preparing to hit the stage again on Wednesday (15Oct08) at the Verona Center in Washington, D.C.
He adds, "Janet wanted very much to resume her tour so as not to disappoint her fans, but she continued to suffer from vertigo and could not perform.
"She’s a world-class entertainer and needs to be at the top of her game to give her fans the show they expect. She’s feeling much better and is ready to hit the road again to finish the tour."
