MCENTIRE, LOVETT AND JACKSON CLAIM COUNTRY HONOURS
REBA McENTIRE, LYLE LOVETT and ALAN JACKSON were among the top honourees at the 2008 ASCAP Country Music Awards on Monday night (13Oct08) The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) bestowed its Silver Circle honour on McEntire and Lovett, while McEntire was also presented with the Golden Note Award for her "extraordinary career milestones".
Stars like Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes and Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to McEntire by performing a string of her hits at the Ryman Auditorium event in Nashville, Tennessee.
Meanwhile, the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year prize went to Dave Berg for the hits Don’t Make Me, It’s Good To Be Us, Moments, These Are My People and What Kinda Gone. Jackson claimed the Songwriter/Artist of the Year honour for A Woman’s Love and Small Town Southern Man. And Rachel Thibodeau’s Good Directions was named Country Song of the Year.
