MEXICAN DIRECTOR HERNANDEZ DEAD
Mexican documentary maker SERVANDO GONZALEZ HERNANDEZ has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 85.
Hernandez was the former chief documentary filmmaker for the Mexican government, but he made his mark in Hollywood in the mid-1960s with his movie The Fool Killer, which starred Anthony Perkins.
His legacy features a scandalous moment in Mexico’s history - he was commissioned to shoot what became the Tlatelolco massacre in Mexico City in 1969.
During the tragedy soldiers opened fire on a crowd of demonstrators, killing up to 250 people. The full details of the incident and the death count have been shrouded in secrecy and the footage Hernandez shot had to be handed over to officials once it was developed. The documentarian never got his film back.
