LEONARDO DICAPRIO and Italian actress GINA LOLLOBRIGIDA are to be honoured at a gala in Washington, D.C. on 18 October (08).
The movie stars will join politician Nancy Pelosi, baseball great Yogi Berra and Barbara Sinatra, among others, when the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) hands out its 33rd Anniversary Awards.
DiCaprio will receive a Special Achievement Award in Entertainment.

New mum HALLE BERRY has been named the Sexiest Woman Alive by men’s style magazine Esquire.
The Oscar winner poses in little but a T-shirt for the pages of Esquire’s upcoming November (08) issue, and admits she’s baffled by the honour.
She says, "I don’t know exactly what it means, but being 42 and having just had a baby, I think I’ll take it.
"Sexiness is a state of mind, a comfortable state of being. It’s about loving yourself in your most unlovable moments.
"I share this title with every woman, because every woman is a nominee for it at any moment." Berry gave birth to her daughter, Nahla, in March (08).

Hollywood star NICK NOLTE is suffering from smoke inhalation and abrasions after battling to put out a blaze at his California home.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called out to Nolte’s Malibu home on Tuesday morning (07Oct08).
Firefighters found the Cape Fear star attempting to put out the fire himself.
They stepped in and helped extinguish flames that started in Nolte’s bedroom.
According to TMZ.com, the house has been left with $1 million (GBP540,000) in structural damage and $500,000 (GBP270,000) in content damage.
Nolte, 67, told reporters he will seek medical attention for his injuries.

Legendary rocker DAVID CROSBY has waded into the legal battle between actor ROB LOWE and the nanny accusing his wife of sexual harassment.
The couple’s former child minder Laura Boyce is suing the couple, claiming Sheryl Lowe frequently walked around naked and also quizzed her about the size of her African-American boyfriend’s penis.
The Lowes have denied the claims, and Crosby has filed a declaration backing their side of the story, based on time he spent with the family in Hawaii last year (07).
He claims, "Laura Boyce was open about her personal life and dating preferences and freely discussed that in front of my wife and me.
"(She) stated on several occasions that she only dates ‘black guys’ because of their ‘c**ks.’" Another family friend, Heather Melchiori, has filed a declaration claiming that during a lunch date "Laura began bragging about the size of her boyfriend’s penis. Laura said that her boyfriend was an African American athlete." Rob Lowe is also being sued by a second nanny, Jessica Gibson, who accuses the actor of groping her and exposing himself to her.
He is countersuing Gibson, claiming she used the claims to try and extort money from him.

Model CHRISTIE BRINKLEY is set for further heartbreak once a new TV interview with her ex-husband PETER COOK airs in America on Friday night (10Oct08).
The couple divorced after a messy court battle in the summer (08), during which Brinkley accused her ex of being addicted to internet porn.
Brinkley and Cook split after the model learned of her husband’s affair with a teenage assistant - from her love rival’s concerned parents.
Now Cook is going public with the problems that lead to him straying as part of an interview on news show 20/20.
He reveals his affair began when he failed to get the emotional "connection" he craved from his wife.
He explains, "There came a time when I pulled up the driveway to the home that I found, that I built, that I lived in - and I felt like I was a guest in someone else’s life.
"I was seeking a connection I could not find in my own marriage. I think I just suddenly realised when I was getting attention from someone else that this is something that was missing in my life."

The Star Wars actress portrays Princess Carmensita Saplingita in ex-boyfriend Devendra Banhart’s new promo for Carmensita - a move that has already upset leading Hindu scholars, who have called for her to publicly apologise for mocking their religion.
And now prominent U.S. Jewish leader Rabbi Jonathan Freirich has called on Israel-born Portman to use the upcoming Day of Atonement to make amends to the Hindus she has offended.
He says, "This video mocks a venerable religion. At this time of the Jewish High Holy days, when soul-searching and making of amends are recommended, Ms.
Portman has the perfect opportunity to show her true feelings of inclusion and open-mindedness in apologising for her participation in this video.” Last week (ends03Oct08), acclaimed Hindu and Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed admitted he was deeply hurt by the video, which he claims simply serves to feed incorrect stereotypes of his religion.
He said, "The images used in the video are revered in Hinduism and are not to be thrown around loosely for dramatic effects.
"We invite Hollywood to immerse itself in Hinduism, but we ask that actors and actresses, directors and producers take our religion seriously and respectfully." Zed is joined by officials at the Hindu Alliance of India, Shri Ramayan Pracharini Sabha and the India Heritage Panel in calling for a public apology from Jewish Portman. The actress’ representative has refused to comment.

Pregnant newlywed ASHLEE SIMPSON-WENTZ celebrated her 24th birthday with a ‘white trash-themed’ bash on Friday (03Oct08).
The singer, her husband Pete Wentz, sister Jessica, parents and pals all dressed up for the party at the Simpson family’s Encino home.
A guest tells People.com, "It had a white-trash theme. Ashlee wore Daisy Dukes and platform flip-flops with a bathing suit and a fake tattoo around her belly.
"(Father) Joe wore a cut-off muscle T-shirt and a mullet wig. It was funny.
Jessica was wearing a crazy leopard-print dress that showed off a lot of cleavage." Simpson-Wentz is due to give birth to her first child next month (Nov08).

Los Angeles officials are fighting to revoke or suspend Hollywood music mecca the House of Blues’ entertainment license after a series of fights at the venue.
West Hollywood councilman John Heilman introduced his initiative to clamp down on the venue and its management at a meeting on Monday night (06Oct08). He claims bosses at the House of Blues haven’t improved security, despite a spate of arrests related to violent incidents in the past 12 months.
In his report, Heilman revealed police have been called to the venue over 100 times in the past year, and they’ve made 44 arrests.
The report reads, “For the last several years, the House of Blues has had a history of serious problems and an unwillingness to address these problems.
“After each serious incident, there is a perfunctory apology and a promise to reform, but the problems persist and have escalated.”

LATEST: Rapper RICK ROSS has confessed he once worked as a prison officer after initially denying the rumours.
Ross went so far as to accuse Internet pranksters of faking photos of him in uniform, when snapshots appeared on website TheSmokingGun.com in July (08).
But, in the latest issue of Don Diva magazine, he reportedly backs down and admits it really is him in the photographs.
He is quoted saying, "Yes, it’s me. I never tried to hide my past. I put my name inside my CDs." But Ross insists his prison guard past doesn’t make him a ’snitch’ and it doesn’t diminish his role as one of hip hop’s hard-hitting heavyweights.
He adds, "I never ratted on a ni**a. I never prosecuted a ni**a. I never locked up a ni**a, that’s first and foremost.
"I always felt that me being the ni**a that I am, I never owed a ni**a an explanation. When I’m making my music and I’m talking about blow, it’s because I did it. When I say that I’m rich off cocaine, it’s because I did it. Those are the street principals that apply."

Rapper ICE CUBE has welcomed plans laid out by retiring hip-hop star SCARFACE to create a new supergroup with himself and NAS.
The Houston, Texas star recently revealed he would be quitting rap after the release of his next album Emeritus, and he’d only consider a return to the studio if Ice Cube and Nas were to join him.
And the former N.W.A. star admits he’d be willing to give the rap supergroup idea a go.
He tells AllHipHop.com, "I wouldn’t even think twice about doing that…hell yeah! “I think the album would be crazy, lyrics would be sick, and hip-hop would love it. It’s just making that business happen, that’s the part that gets funky.
"I ain’t never turned down these kind of projects, they just don’t happen for whatever reasons. But I’m up for some s**t like this because I know we can make a dope record.”

Hip-hop star KANYE WEST returned to the MTV Video Music Awards this year (08) as a gift to his late mother DONDA, after previously vowing to boycott the event.
The hitmaker insisted he would snub the MTV prizegiving after the poor treatment he claimed he received at the 2007 event.
But West admits his mother - who died last November (07) at age 58 from plastic surgery complications - inspired him to reconsider.
He says, "A lot of things changed and, you know, with my mom passing… one of her goals was, she really supported me and she always wanted me to be the best that I could be and not get hung up on the small things.
"So, with her not being here to try and talk me into doing things, I just try do things she would want me to do."

A spokesperson for AMY WINEHOUSE has denied the troubled singer is under suicide watch following recent reports prompting concern for her health.
Online reports suggested the Rehab hitmaker was at risk of taking her own life just weeks after she stunned revellers with her erratic behaviour and dishevelled appearance at the Prince’s Trust End of Summer Ball bash in London late last month (Sep08).
But a spokesperson for Winehouse insists the star is hard at work on new projects, telling People.com: "She’s fine." The representative has also confirmed Winehouse is in talks with producer Mark Ronson to contribute to Quincy Jones’ upcoming tribute album.

Hollywood couple HALLE BERRY and GABRIEL AUBRY are eager to expand their family with another baby, less than a year after giving birth to her first child.
Berry and the French-Canadian model welcomed their first child, daughter Nahla Ariela, in Los Angeles in March (08).
And they are keen to have a sibling for little Nahla.
Aubry tells Usmagazine.com: "Yeah, we are working on that… I mean, look at her (Berry) - she is unbelievable! She is the best mum that anybody could ask for - or wish for." Echoing Berry’s denial the pair has made plans to wed, he adds: "We have no plans for marriage. We are more married than ever, really."

AVRIL LAVIGNE has been lauded for her charity work in China after helping to raise funds for poverty stricken families.
The Sk8er Boi star’s Best Damn Tour, which wrapped in Beijing, China on Monday (06Oct08), has been raising money to aid the poor and help children with disabilities.
And she has been praised by members of the China Association of Social Workers, who presented the star with the Certificate of Honor in recognition of her efforts.
During her tour of the country, Lavigne has also been taking time out to visit kids in the Sichuan province, which was ravaged by earthquakes earlier this year (08), to present them with gifts.

LATEST: British actress KATE WINSLET has denied she will portray VIVIENNE WESTWOOD in an upcoming movie about the fashion designer’s life.
Reports last week (beg29Sep08) suggested Winslet was poised to play the punk icon in a biopic documenting the designer’s rise to fame in the 1970s to the present day.
But both the Titanic star and Westwood’s representatives insist the role remains open, claiming original reports by British Vogue were "blown completely out of proportion".
Winslet’s spokesperson tells People.com reports of the actress taking the role are “not at all true".
A spokesperson from Westwood’s team adds: "The script has not even been finished yet, let alone casting. Kate Winslet was just one of many names that were mentioned as possibles to play Vivienne, but this whole thing has been blown completely out of proportion.”

The drug king portrayed by DENZEL WASHINGTON in 2007 RIDLEY SCOTT movie AMERICAN GANGSTER is embarking on a 20-city U.S. tour to preach to kids against violence and crime.
Frank Lucas, who once controlled much of New York’s drug trade in the 1970s, will be joined by his rapper son Frank Lucas Jr. on the road trip.
A source tells the New York Post, "Frank Sr. will be talking to students about how they should get good grades, not guns, and not follow in his footsteps.
"There will also be gun drops for illegal handguns that he and his son are setting up."

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s ex-wife HEATHER MILLS has been caught building a swimming pool in the grounds of her English home without planning permission.
Planners discovered the pool while visiting Mills’ Robertsbridge, East Sussex home to check the former glamour model had pulled down a huge marquee she had erected illegally.
They have now ordered her to submit an application for the pool - and if permission is denied, Mills will have to fill it in.
A spokesperson for Rother District Council tells the Hastings & St. Leonards Observer newspaper, "The marquee appears to have been dismantled.
"Apparently there is a swimming pool and we have invited a planning application for it. This will then be considered in accordance with the normal planning process." Mills bought the property last year (07) so she and her daughter Beatrice could be close to McCartney’s home in nearby Peasmarsh.

Comedienne MARGARET CHO has been named Korean of the Year by a leading Korean-American newspaper.
The funnywoman, whose parents were both born in South Korea, insists the accolade is extra special to her - because of the way she was treated when she revealed she was bisexual.
Cho tells uinterview.com, "(It was a) really a wonderful moment for me because I was really an outcast in the Korean community when I first came out.
"The Korean community really doesn’t have any representation out there. For the first time, I was going to be their representative. A lot people didn’t want me out here because I’m so outspoken. I’m a woman, I’m not thin, I’m not straight. I’m not all these things that Koreans would like to be.
"I was really an outcast, ostracised from the Korean community because of that. They thought I was a problem. Even when my television show (All American Girl) first came out (in 1994) there were people picketing and protesting. This was a different world back then. In 1994, they really didn’t have a lot to protest about. I guess Koreans are more worried about (North Korean ruler) Kim Jong-Il now."
