Actress SALMA HAYEK left a British TV presenter red-faced on Friday (03Oct08) when he failed to understand her Latin accent - and thought she had just outed herself as a lesbian.
The Frida star, who is half Mexican and half Lebanese, was being interviewed on live TV show This Morning when presenter Eamonn Holmes commented on her surname.
Holmes, from Northern Ireland, mused, "Hayek doesn’t sound very Mexican." Hayek responded by saying, "I’m half Lebanese" - but Holmes misheard her and said, "So you’re a lesbian?", prompting the actress to burst into laughter.
She smiled and then leaned in to clarify her answer, saying slowly, "I am Lebanese." Hayek was recently rumoured to have rekindled her romance with her ex-fiance, French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault. The former couple has a one-year-old daughter together, Valentina.

Rapper Q-TIP is delighted his ex-girlfriend NICOLE KIDMAN has become a mother, because he’s confident she’s a "great" parent.
The Breathe and Stop star dated Moulin Rouge! actress Kidman in 2003, and the former couple has remained close since their split.
Q-Tip, real name Jonathan Davis, has yet to meet Kidman and husband Keith Urban’s daughter Sunday Rose, but has offered his congratulations to the new mum.
He tells Usmagazine.com, "I saw Nicole not too long ago when she was pregnant. And she just had the baby, so congrats to her. She was glowing when I saw her. She was very, very happy.
"I’m sure she’s going to be a great mum."

BRITNEY SPEARS is at the centre of an internet hoax after computer whizz kids superimposed the singer’s face on TYRA BANKS’ body - and passed the images off as the CD cover of her new song WOMANIZER.
The raunchy pictures show a woman who appears to be Spears in a black corset-style leotard, brandishing a cane. In another shot, the female is shown placing her cane on a semi-naked man’s chest as a snake slithers over his body.
But the images have been exposed as fakes by Spears’ record label Sony BMG because label bosses have yet to see the photographs themselves, let alone release them online.
A spokesperson for Sony BMG says, "These are nothing to do with us. We haven’t even seen the official cover pictures yet because they have only just been shot.
"I haven’t a clue why someone should do this but there are all sorts of pictures of Britney around. There’s a lot of made-up stuff on the internet, too." The photos of former supermodel Banks are the promo shots from a previous run of her reality TV show America’s Next Top Model.

British actress KATE WINSLET is to portray fashion designer VIVIENNE WESTWOOD in an upcoming movie of her life.
The Little Children star has been cast to play British icon Westwood in the Universal film, which will document the designer’s rise to fame in the 1970s to the present day.
Winslet will meet with the designer once the script has been completed to discuss ideas for the film.
Confirming the casting, a spokesperson for Westwood says, "The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne. It has been a long time in the planning but we’re very excited that it’s happening."

Comedian SACHA BARON COHEN was ejected from a catwalk show during Paris Fashion Week in France on Friday (03Oct08), after climbing on stage and attempting to slip a note to the models.
The British funnyman is currently filming scenes for his new movie Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt.
Dressed as his camp alter-ego Bruno, he attempted to carry out his latest stunt at the JC De Castebajac show - scenes which are suspected to feature in his forthcoming comedy.
But he suffered a small setback when the models and audience ignored his presence and continued despite the disturbance.
The star was promptly ejected by security staff in what is his fourth attempt to disrupt a fashion show.
Dressed as Bruno, Cohen twice crashed shows at Madrid Fashion Week in Spain and was also thrown out of a show in Milan, Italy last week (25Sep08) after storming the runway and strutting along the catwalk - prompting organisers to call the police.
Cohen’s latest film is being shot in a similar documentary style to his 2006 hit Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

British model/actress ELIZABETH HURLEY was left embarrassed at a New York charity event on Thursday (02Oct08) - when she accidentally flashed her underwear at the audience.
Hurley, 43, was on hosting duties at Bloomingdale’s department store when she launched the Bloomingdale’s Goes Pink bash to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month.
But the star was left visibly flushed by her fashion mishap after a burst of static electricity between the carpet and her pink satin dress caused the garment to fly up - and reveal her flesh coloured undergarments.
The Bedazzled star tried to laugh off the incident and smoothed down her skirt before continuing with her hosting commitments.

British actress EMMA THOMPSON regards "giving birth without painkillers" as her biggest accomplishment in life, despite scooping two Oscars for her film work.
The Love Actually star, 49, went through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment to have her only daughter Gaia, nine, with actor husband Greg Wise.
And she admits that she is more proud of going into labour without the need for drugs than she is about her career success.
She tells Britain’s Easy Living magazine that her happiest moment was "just after giving birth without painkillers".
However, she confesses to harbouring an unfulfilled ambition - to expand her family.
When asked what her biggest regret was, she told the publication: "Not having been able to have more children." Thompson turned to adoption in 2003 when she informally took in then 16-year-old Rwandan refugee Tindyebwa Agaba, who she refers to as "my son".

American TV personality RACHAEL RAY has shot down reports she’s battling throat cancer, insisting she is "the picture of health".
Tabloid The National Enquirer recently claimed the Emmy-winning lifestyle show host was to undergo surgery on her throat amid fears she had cancer - an operation that would silence her for two months.
But her representative Charlie Dougiello has played down the reports, admitting that while she is having an operation, it is only minor surgery and is not as serious as it sounds.
He tells People.com, "Rachael is the picture of health. She is having very minor surgery to remove a benign cyst on her vocal cord.
"It’s a common in-and-out procedure that she will have in early December and it will not adversely effect any of her daytime show or Food Network tapings."

HUGH HEFNER has been granted a restraining order against a man who was twice arrested this summer (08) for allegedly ramming his car into the gates of the Playboy mansion.
The magazine boss claims he fears for his safety and that of his three main girlfriends Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt, after Glen Allan Meador reportedly attempted to break into their Los Angeles home.
Meador was arrested by cops on two separate occasions in one week in August (08). He was charged with vandalism, but has pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
In legal papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on 18 September (08), Hefner, 82, says, "I am greatly concerned that Mr. Meador is unstable and a viable threat to my safety." According to website TMZ.com, the order has now been granted, meaning Meador must stay at least 100 yards (91 meters) away from Hefner and his girlfriends who were listed in the court papers as other protected persons - for five years. He is also banned from attempting to contact them by phone or email, and is not allowed to be in possession of a gun.

METALLICA are continuing their reign over Europe - their new LP DEATH MAGNETIC has held on to the top spot in the albums chart for a third consecutive week.

Rockers RADIOHEAD and THE VERVE are among a group of British musicians who have formed a new organisation in a bid to fight for artists’ rights in the digital distribution of their music.
The Featured Artists’ Coalition launches on Sunday (05Oct08) at the In the City conference in Manchester, England.
Founding members include Angels singer Robbie Williams, former Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, DJ Paul Oakenfold, Craig David, Iron Maiden, Kaiser Chiefs and the Klaxons.
The organisation aims to help artists strike better deals with record companies and digital distributors, and will involve organisations such as the government and music companies, arguing for fair play and exposing unfair practices in the industry.
Badly Drawn Boy star Damon Gough, who is also involved in the campaign, says, "I think with the digital and record companies dispersing and disbanding, young bands need a governing voice that will support them and help protect their work." And Radiohead are encouraging other musicians to join their organisation.
The group split from record company EMI late last year (07), blaming a copyright dispute for their departure. They then released their LP In Rainbows online, allowing fans to choose how much they wanted to pay for the album in a ‘pay-what-you-like’ scheme.
Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien says, "For us, this is a no-brainer and we believe all artists and musicians should be signing up."

Rockers OASIS have been accused of ripping off a CLIFF RICHARD hit with their new single THE TURNING.
Oasis posted the track on their MySpace.com page on Thursday (02Oct08), but the song has received harsh criticism from fans of ageing crooner Richard - who claim the tune bears an uncanny resemblance his 1976 hit, Devil Woman.
Writing on Richard’s official site, one user by the name of Rolybunny, says, "This is a rip-off. What’ll they do next? Remix Mistletoe and Wine?" However, the track has not been panned by all Richard fans.
Janine Castle, from the International Cliff Richard Movement, admits the similarities came as a shock, albeit a welcome one.
She says, "I’m astounded Oasis use Cliff as their muse - but delighted. I can hear the similarities. It’s about time Cliff’s musical genius got some recognition." Oasis have yet to comment on the comparisons - but it would not be the first time the band has sampled songs from other musicians.
Guitarist Noel Gallagher has previously confessed that a riff in 1994’s Cigarettes and Alcohol was based on T Rex’s Get It On, and Don’t Look Back In Anger pays homage to the late John Lennon’s 1971 song, Imagine.

Rocker BILLY JOEL turned wedding singer on Friday (03Oct08) night, when he helped U.S. shock jock HOWARD STERN celebrate his nuptials to model girlfriend BETH OSTROSKY in New York City.
Stern, 54, and Ostrosky, 36, exchanged vows on Friday at Le Cirque restaurant. They were joined by a host of celebrity pals including Joan Rivers, comedienne Sarah Silverman, and American TV personalities Barbara Walters and Jimmy Kimmel.
Joel entertained the party guests with two songs, while funnyman Chevy Chase delivered a tongue-in-cheek roast to the newlyweds.
After the wedding reception, Rivers told People.com, "I danced with Howard.
The wedding was fabulous, everyone had a great, great time." The marriage is Stern’s second and Ostrosky’s first.

O.J. SIMPSON has been found guilty of all 12 counts in his armed robbery and kidnapping trial 13 years to the day he was acquitted of the double murder of his wife NICOLE and her friend RONALD GOLDMAN.
A jury in Nevada reached the verdict after late-night deliberation on Friday (03Oct08), 12 days after the trial began.
Simpson, 61, and his co-defendant Clarence Stewart now face life imprisonment.
The charges stemmed from a heist Simpson and Stewart took part in at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last year (Sep07).
Prosecutors alleged Simpson led a group of men in an armed raid on a suite rented by sports memorabilia dealers Bruce Fromong and Al Beardsley for what they thought was a transaction meeting.
Guns were allegedly brandished and the two hotel guests were threatened as Simpson and his associates filled two pillowcases with items the former American football star and actor claimed had been stolen from him.

California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER turned to actor pal TOM ARNOLD when he was recently left stranded in the Middle East ahead of a crucial speech.
Arnold found himself delivering his True Lies co-star’s speech to 60,000 members of California’s Chamber of Commerce, and he couldn’t resist the temptation to preach against the proposed ban on gay marriage in the state.
Thee-times-divorced Arnold explains, "He was stuck in the Middle East. There was a big speech for 60,000 people. He said, ‘The speech is already written, you just have to go up there and say the words.’ "But I wanted to make it a bit more ‘me’ and I was thinking about gay marriage, which is a hot button subject, as it turns out.
"So I said, "I’ll be honest. I’m for it. Even if you don’t like gay people.
You should vote for this. Marriage isn’t that great. If we have to get married - why shouldn’t they.’ "And then I moved onto the economy, and I was saying, ‘Gay weddings… think of the money. All the flowers. Have you seen their parades? They’re the best parades ever.’ You could see their eyes light up. They could see the dollar signs. There was a groundswell and I got a standing ovation from republicans and democrats.’ "The only person who’s now against gay weddings is my gay brother. He said, ‘Great. Now I’m going to be alone and broke like you.’"

KIRSTEN DUNST has turned her life around after a stint in rehab earlier this year (08), by ditching her showbiz lifestyle.
The actress was treated for depression at Utah’s Cirque Lodge in February (08).
Eight months on, Dunst is happier, and has her career back on track.
She says, "Everybody in life goes through obstacles in different times of their life, and this year was my difficult time. It’s part of life and it’s just called growing up.
"What I have learned is if you make it out of this business and realise the whole bigger picture of it all, you are in a good spot. It’s just seeing what is important and the bigger things in life." And she is convinced swapping her Hollywood home for a new pad in New York has helped: "It’s not healthy to live that kind of life.
"I don’t live in the spotlight and I don’t live my life in front of the paparazzi. I live very comfortably and quietly as possible."

British actress ELIZABETH HURLEY is launching a range of organic and low-fat food.
The actress was inspired to go into business after reading dietary advice for women hoping to avoid breast cancer - and discovering a massive gap in the market.
Hurley tells People.com, "I’m developing a line of products … with a view that they’re not only going to be healthy, because they’re organic, but I’m obsessed that women find alternatives to eat which are low in fat.
"I think we know now that many issues with women’s health can be linked back to their diet. We’ve been saying for a long time that many breast cancer specialists recommend sticking to as low-fat a diet as possible, which all has to do with how estrogen is stored in the body." Hurley was in New York City on Thursday (2Oct08) to light department store Bloomingdale’s pink, to raise awareness for breast cancer.
The star - who lives on a farm in the English countryside - launched her own Breast Cancer Research Foundation after her grandmother died from the disease.

Rockers WHITESNAKE are to follow in the footsteps of SIR PAUL McCARTNEY by playing a one-off gig in Israel next month (Nov08).
The band have scheduled the date as part of their current world tour and will perform at Tel Aviv’s Exhibition Park on 11 November (08).
McCartney played a special concert in the city last month (Sep08) to 40,000 fans, four decades after the Beatles were banned from the country for being too controversial.
