KEVIN COSTNER has followed rocker EDDIE VEDDER’s lead by penning a new morale-boosting tune for his favourite U.S. baseball team.
Pearl Jam star Vedder’s All The Way has become a play-off anthem for his beloved Chicago Cubs and now Costner is hoping his tune It’s All Up To You will help lead the Tampa Bay Rays all the way to the World Series.
Costner and his band Modern West recorded the song last week (ends26Sep08), while putting the finishing touches to a new country album.
The Field of Dreams star says, "I ran into (Rays manager) Joe (Maddon) up in Toronto and said you guys need a war song… something you can play in the locker room after you win and get that group feeling.
"I felt in the back of my head this could work for them."

Pop superstar BRITNEY SPEARS shocked young fans in New York on Wednesday (1Oct08), by paying an impromptu visit to a junior school which was closed.
John Philip Sousa Junior High School in The Bronx was closed for classes because of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah - so staff had to round up 20 kids, who were willing to cut short their break and head back to school to meet their idol.
The singer signed autographs, posed for pictures and smiled and joked with the thrilled kids.
One tells OK! magazine, "I couldn’t say anything - it’s Britney. I was shell-shocked.” Spears, who is touring the Big Apple to promote her new single Womanizer, was forced to cut short a shopping spree on Tuesday (30Sep08) after she was chased by a swarm of fans.
The pop star also checked out the musical In The Heights during her business/shopping trip to NewYork.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and JESSICA BIEL were among the guests at actress BEVERLEY MITCHELL’s Italian wedding to MICHAEL CAMERON on Wednesday (01Oct08).
Mitchell exchanged vows with her accountant beau at a ceremony in Ravello.
The newlyweds, both 27, have been engaged since New Year’s Eve 2005.
Timberlake and Biel - who starred alongside Mitchell in hit U.S. show 7th Heaven - were among 100 guests at the wedding.
Mitchell asked Biel and Duff sisters Hilary and Haylie to be her bridesmaids at the fairytale wedding, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

TOM CRUISE has poured his heart into a farewell message to his pal and COLOR OF MONEY co-star PAUL NEWMAN, who lost his cancer battle on Friday (26Sep08).
The movie star has written an essay about Newman, which will appear in the upcoming issue of America’s People magazine.
In the heartfelt message, Cruise explains his former co-star taught him all about life.
He writes, "He was bigger than life to me. But he always had a way of putting us all at ease.
"He called me ‘Cruiser’ or sometimes ‘Kid’. We would grab time to hang out whenever we could find it." Cruise closes his touching essay by writing, "His life will forever inspire me. The world has lost an icon; I have lost an idol."

Red-faced movie star LEONARDO DiCAPRIO was left covering up his blushes during a recent TV interview after a U.S. presenter quizzed him about when he first had sex.
DiCaprio was asked to comment on remarks made by his Body of Lies co-star Russell Crowe, in which the Oscar winner suggested his young pal was an 18-year-old virgin when they made western The Quick & The Dead together in 1995.
Commenting on the differences between DiCaprio then and now, Crowe quipped, "The two things that have changed about Leo since that time is he can drink legally and he’s no longer a virgin." But the younger actor insists the Gladiator star is mistaken, and he had to face awkward questions about his first time when he faced Access Hollywood presenter Nancy O’Dell.
Embarrassed DiCaprio said, "He has no idea what he’s talking about and that’s all I’m gonna say… I am going to let this one slide.” But when O’Dell asked the movie star why he was blushing, he chuckled, "Wow, I feel like I’m in a therapy session.” And, despite the actor’s protests, Crowe is refusing to back down. He claims DiCaprio boasted about his first time at a premiere party the two pals met at long after The Quick & The Dead came out.
Crowe recalls, “He sort of hugged me and whispered in my ear, ‘I’m not a virgin anymore.’”

STAR WARS creator GEORGE LUCAS keeps props from his blockbusters at a secret warehouse location on his Skywalker Ranch estate in Marin County, California.
Few people have been admitted to the movie treasure trove, but actor/director Jon Favreau was given a rare guided tour while he was editing Iron Man in Lucas’ state-of-the-art film suites.
The Swingers star says, "I’d heard rumours about (it). George Lucas has always kept all the props and everything from all his movies - Raiders of The Lost Ark, all the Star Wars films and I kept hinting for the two weeks I was there to be able to see the stuff and finally I got the nod, the secret invitation.
"The warehouse (is) hidden away in this big piece of property, and you’re walking around and, like, R2-D2’s there and C-3PO… and the actual Ark of the Covenant with the Ten Commandments in it - the idol from Indiana Jones.
"You’re just running around, smacking your ass. You’re just like a kid in a candy store.
"They have real museum curators there and I don’t think when they’re studying art and museum curating…, they’re picturing a bunch of fanboys coming in (and) drooling all over props from movies."

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO has paid tribute to his late grandmother in a new magazine article, calling the German his "barometer of truth".
The actor’s "Oma", Helene Idenbirken, died in a hospital in Germany this past summer (08), and her famous grandson admits the loss has hit him hard.
He tells the upcoming issue of America’s Parade magazine that his beloved grandmother always helped him keep his feet on the ground.
DiCaprio says, "I feel very sad that Oma is gone.” "I always loved being with Oma. She was completely pure, honest, unaffected, so unlike anything else that I was ever used to. She was my barometer of truth.
“Sometimes I’d ask Oma, ‘Isn’t it great now, all this stuff happening in my life?’ (and) she’d say, ‘Don’t you worry about that. Take a break. Be a bricklayer. Work with your hands. You’ll love it. Step back and reflect on what’s going on in your life. Appreciate it.’”

UGLY BETTY star AMERICA FERRERA almost flashed the entire audience at the Emmy Awards after a wardrobe malfunction left her feeling exposed.
The actress’ designer gown fell apart as she sat waiting to take the stage to present an award with her TV show co-star Vanessa Williams at last month’s (Sep08) glitzy ceremony.
She explains, "I was sitting in my seat and they (planners) come out and get you when it’s your turn to go backstage.
"I was wearing this dress with a bustle underneath to make it fluffy. I stood up and it just slipped out from me, the whole skirt. I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m naked underneath.’ I ran backstage and asked an intern for a safety pin." But two fellow actresses came to the rescue: "I then ran into the women’s dressing room, and this woman said, ‘Can I help you?’ I looked up and it’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus. And then Catherine Keener came along and the intern came back with a safety pin.
"So I’m standing at a mirror and Catherine Keener and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are at my butt with a safety pin. I made it onstage and no one was the wiser."

METALLICA have scored a third week at the top of the U.S. album charts after keeping pop sensation DEMI LOVATO from claiming her first number one.
The heavy rockers’ Death Magnetic album easily kept hold of the top spot by becoming the only act to sell over 100,000 albums last week.
Lovato debuted Don’t Forget at two with sales of 89,000.
Ne-Yo’s Year of The Gentleman slipped to three on the new chart, while Kings of Leon and Pussycat Dolls crash into the top five at four and five respectively, with the albums Only By The Night and Doll Domination.

GRATEFUL DEAD guitarist BOB WEIR is suffering from broken ribs, after taking a tumble on his tour bus.
Weir fell awkwardly when the driver of the famous ‘Deadmobile’ braked suddenly, en route to a recent post-tour fundraising concert.
The gig had to be postponed and a publicist for the band tells TMZ.com that Weir is in pain when he tries "to breathe, hold the guitar, and laugh." The 60-year-old is a founder member of the iconic 1960s rock group.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN’s longtime sideman NILS LOFGREN has undergone surgery on both his hips.
The guitarist is recovering after Tuesday’s (30Sep08) operation.
In a posting on his website, Lofgren states that “a long, beautiful life on the road (40 years) that’s included back flips with guitars, dive rolls, leaping off drum risers and trying to break stage floors with pounding legs…
(and) thousands of hours playing aggressive basketball" made the operation necessary.
Writing before the surgery, Lofgren revealed, "Although I am understandably nervous, it is a hugely successful surgery and I have a great surgeon in a great hospital so I should come through it fine." The rocker hopes to spend the rest of the year recovering from the surgery and rehabbing, and plans to be back on his feet for an acoustic solo tour early next year (09).

The shock of ADAM ‘DJ AM’ GOLDSTEIN’s near-death plane crash has reportedly rekindled his romance with singer ex-girlfriend MANDY MOORE.
The pair ended its brief romance last year (07), but they remained close, and Moore rushed to visit Goldstein in hospital in Augusta, Georgia, as he recovered from burns suffered in the 19 September (08) crash, which killed four.
And friends claim they have been inseparable since he returned to Los Angeles last week (ends26Sep08).
A pal tells the National Enquirer, "Mandy never got over Adam when they broke up. When she saw him lying there, injured, her heart broke. She is still deeply in love with him." Mandy’s main concern right now is that Adam recovers from this, but she also made it clear to the other woman that she wasn’t going anywhere."

Magazine editors have hit back at allegations they airbrushed KIRSTEN DUNST’s "fangs" out of her frontpage photoshoot for the October (08) issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
The actress showed off a straighter row of top teeth on the cover of the glossy magazine, prompting speculation photo editors digitally removed her trademark pointy canines.
James Wood, the director of photography at the San Francisco’s Academy of Art University, tells Us Weekly magazine, "The teeth are definitely retouched. If they didn’t want her to have fangs, that’s very easy to do." But a spokesperson for Harper’s Bazaar dismisses the suggestion as "nonsense", insisting Dunst has a "beautiful smile".
Furthermore, the actress’ representative tells Us, "She doesn’t mind her teeth’s imperfections."

Hollywood actress GWYNETH PALTROW has cleaned out her closet for charity - she is selling a selection of her designer dresses to raise money for underprivileged kids.
The Sliding Doors star, who lives in London, has decided to sell off all of her unwanted clothes and accessories in aid of British charity the Kids Company.

A source tells People, "Scarlett wanted a ceremony with just family and a few select friends. She wasn’t going to let anything interfere with her wedding day. They work hard to keep things private." Johansson, 23 and Reynolds, 31, began dating in April 2007 and announced their engagement in May this year (08).

The 24 actor can’t stand to see horror films - and compares the heart-stopping feeling to going on a high-adrenaline ride at a funfair.
He says, "I can’t watch horror films a lot
. I can do maybe one a year.
"I kind of liken it to getting on a rollercoaster
. You haven’t done it in four years and you go to the amusement park, and you get in line, you get close to it and you’re going, ‘What the f**k am I doing here?’ And when you try to walk out, and there’s 300 people behind you and you’re stuck." But he admits that the build-up of fear is worse than the terror, adding: "And the slow ride up is just torture and then it’s done and you walk out going, ‘Wasn’t that great!’"

LATEST: BRITNEY SPEARS’ photographer ex-boyfriend has blasted claims he is trying to sell a sex tape featuring the star.
Earlier this week (begs29Sep08), a British magazine reported that Adnan Ghalib had confessed to taping the pair having sex during a vacation in Mexico - with Spears wearing nothing but a pink wig in the video.
But now Ghalib, who dated the star last year (07), tells America’s Star magazine the story is a lie, and he is threatening to sue over the "false reports".
He says, "There is no sex tape and I’ve never claimed there is one.
"I don’t know where these quotes I’m supposed to have said have come from.
What I do know is they certainly didn’t come from me and they are completely false. I’m extremely upset and distressed and I’m taking legal action… This story has caused a lot of hurt to my family and people close to me.
"There is no sex tape. That is the end of the matter."
