RUSSELL CROWE was so horrified by an injury the captain of his rugby team suffered during a match - he sent a film crew into the operating theatre.
Roy Asotasi, who plays for the South Sydney Rabbitohs - which Crowe co-owns suffered a torn pectoral muscle during a particularly violent clash on the field.
Crowe wanted to see how surgeons would fix his star player, so he sent a camera into surgery with him - and he’s still deciding what to do with the footage.
The actor tells talk show host Jay Leno, "Rugby league It’s like American football without the padding and helmet.
"Our captain got injured. His chest muscle on the right hand side was torn off the bone. We shot the operation and it was like the surgeon was fixing the plumbing. He had a drill, hammer and chisel out and he was whacking it a full strength.
"And because he knew we were filming it, he kept making these funny little asides."

CHRISTIAN SLATER is convinced his battles with alcohol and drugs stem from a drunken showbiz party - when he was just nine years old.
The actor, 39, has battled with addiction for much of his life, spending time in rehab and even jail because of his wild antics.

Slater tells GQ magazine, "I didn’t get high, but I got drunk. We were travelling around, hitting every state. And every time we would go to a different place, we’d have an opening night party. GOODFELLAS star RAY LIOTTA is taking his hard-man reputation to the small screen - he’s to voice a villain on an episode of children’s cartoon SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS.
The 53 year old will lend his voice to the leader of the "dangerous Bubble Poppin’ Boys" gang for a special 30-minute Nickelodeon TV special.
According to network bosses, the episode sees SpongBob "wander the ocean, a stranger in his own pants" when he finds himself in a rough area of New Kelp City, where he comes face to face with Liotta’s character.
The SpongeBob Squarepants special will air in the U.S. on 13 October (08).

SIMON PEGG has promised his portrayal of SCOTTY in the new STAR TREK movie will be a "tribute" to the late JAMES DOOHAN, the actor who made the role famous.
Doohan’s son Christopher plays an officer on the Starship Enterprise in the new film - and Pegg admits he spent hours grilling him for information about his dad, who died in 2005 aged 85.
Pegg says, "I didn’t want to do an impression of James Doohan, because the guy’s a legend.
"I wanted to make it a tribute to him. His son Chris was on the Enterprise with me. He was my assistant, so I was able to talk to him about his experiences with his dad."

Singer/actor JESSE McCARTNEY is reportedly set to join the cast of U.S. drama GREEK.
The star will play Andy, a freshman sports jock, on the TV series and his role will be a recurring one, according to EW.com.
He will grace the small screen in early 2009 when the fourth season of Greek hits U.S. TV.

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND drummer RYAN RICHARDS is amazed he turned into a hard rocker - because he learned music playing WHAM! songs.
The admits the George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley combo helped shape his musical taste from a young age.
He tells CMU Music, "The first instrument I ever got was a Casio keyboard/guitar hybrid. The demo song was ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! My first challenge as a musician was to learn that tune."

PAUL NEWMAN’s elder brother ARTHUR has paid tribute to the acting icon, describing him as a "loyal and supportive brother" and "the best human being I have ever known".
Speaking out four days (29Sep08) after the star lost his battle with cancer at the age of 83, his 84-year-old brother insists he was much more than a Hollywood legend - and never lost sight of the important things in life, like family.
Arthur Newman says in a statement, "Beyond his place as a world famous ’super star,’ his reputation as a top international racecar driver and rightful recognition as a most generous global philanthropist, Paul was my loyal and supportive brother for the past 83 years.
"Although he was a year younger, from the time we were boys, I always considered him my role model and mentor. His love for (wife) Joanne (Woodward), his daughters, and all in our family, will provide us strength in times to come. He was just about the best human being I have ever known." The movie great’s friends and family have paid their respects to the star at a private funeral service, where the actor was cremated.
Confirming the news, Newman’s longterm friend and business partner A.E.

Rap mogul SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS is launching a new reality TV show in a bid to find the next big star.
The Bad Boy Records boss has already enjoyed success with his MTV Making The Band series, which has spawned groups like Danity Kane and Day26.
But now Combs wants to find a solo superstar - and he’s teamed up with producer Mark Burnett, the brains behind The Apprentice and Survivor, for StarMaker.
The programme, which began development last year (07), has been given the go-ahead by MTV and will debut on the network in January 2009.

COLDPLAY have turned down the chance to follow in PRINCE’s footsteps and perform a residency in London, because frontman CHRIS MARTIN is convinced they aren’t popular enough.
The Purple Rain hitmaker sold out 21 dates at London’s O2 arena last year (07), and Coldplay have been touted to take over and entertain the capital’s music fans over a series of nights.
But despite their millions of album sales, singer Martin believes a residency would be a flop.
He says, "He (Prince) sold out 21 nights. I don’t think we could. You can’t do that unless you’ve got impeccable facial hair. With my facial hair we could probably sell out five nights."

Generous rocker BILLY JOEL is helping to pay for the funeral of a clam digger who was found dead close to the singer’s New York home.
Edwin Flores’ body was discovered off the coast of a Long Island Sound beach in Lattingtown on Monday (29Sep08), six days after he was first reported missing.
An autopsy is due to be performed in the next few days to establish the cause of death.
And Joel, who lives in nearby Centre Island, has already made a donation of an undisclosed amount to the North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association, which will help Flores’ family with burial costs and other expenses.
Joel has long been a supporter of fisherman in Long Island, even championing their cause in his song The Downeaster Alexa.

Actress SALMA HAYEK has fuelled reports she is back with her ex-fiance FRANCOIS-HENRI PINAULT after the couple was spotted together at his Balenciaga fashion show in Paris, France on Tuesday (30Sep08).

Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL wants to donate money to the London homeless shelter she served her recent community sentence in, because she realises how worthwhile the cause is.
The British beauty was ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work at Whitechapel Mission centre as punishment for assaulting two police officers on board a British Airways flight at the city’s Heathrow Airport in April (08).
She completed her sentence at the start of September (08), and she learned so much about the charity during her volunteer work that she has promised to return to the soup kitchen soon to donate some cash.
She says, "They (shelter volunteers) are lovely people.
"When I get a chance, I’m definitely going to be donating money to the place."

LATEST: Actress SIENNA MILLER has won $27,750 (£15,000) in damages from a British newspaper over invasion of privacy claims regarding a set of photos they published of the star.
The Alfie beauty was furious when the Daily Star printed photographs of her in Los Angeles on 11 September this year (08) - and filed suit accusing publishing chiefs of violating her privacy.
Miller has now accepted damages from the newspaper in an out-of-court settlement, and the newspaper’s editors have also agreed to print an apology to the actress.
A statement from the Daily Star bosses reads, "On 11th September we published an article about the actress Sienna Miller. The article was accompanied by a photograph of Sienna in a building in Los Angeles. We accept, as we said in the article, that Ms Miller was extremely harassed and distressed by persistent pursuit and intimidating tactics adopted by numerous paparazzi in seeking to obtain photographs of her, including the very photograph that we published. We apologise to Sienna for publishing this photograph." Miller is also currently in the middle of legal action against two other British tabloids and a photo agency - News International, the company that owns the News of the World and The Sun, and Big Pictures - over photographs taken of her and married actor Balthazar Getty on a yacht near Italy in July (08).
In December (07), Miller won a $65,000 (£32,500) payout in a separate case from the same two newspapers after they published "intrusive" photos of her.

Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL has blamed her spat with British Airways (BA) on the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The catwalk star was escorted off a BA plane and taken into custody at Heathrow Airport in April (08) after spitting at a police officer during a row over her luggage.
She was subsequently sentenced to community service in London after admitting to the incident, but maintains she was provoked after being called a racial slur.
And now Campbell, who had been a loyal BA customer until the fracas, insists she will never step on board another BA plane - claiming the 2001 terrorist attacks in America have changed air travel forever.
She says, "I think after 9/11 you can’t say anything anymore on a plane. I’ve flown British Airways for years, since I was a child. The stewardesses will tell you that I would get on a plane, put on the blanket and go to sleep.
"I’ll never fly that airline again, but nothing’s really lost. I did get my luggage. I was reunited with my YSL (Yves Saint Laurent), and everything was cool."

Hollywood comedian ROBIN WILLIAMS is to return to the U.K. stage for the first time in 25 years - to help celebrate British royal PRINCE CHARLES’ 60th birthday.
The funnyman, 57, will take part in a London theatre production of We Are Most Amused at the New Wimbledon Theatre on 12 November (08), starring alongside British comics John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson.
The show is aimed at raising money for The Prince’s Trust charity, and Prince Charles will attend the special event with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Further stars are due to be added to the production in the coming weeks.

KELLY OSBOURNE is ultra-cautious about her health - she gets checked for sexually-transmitted diseases four times a year.
The daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne is so paranoid about picking up an infection that she makes frequent visits to a clinic for tests.
And although she insists she always practices safe sex, Osbourne prefers to get regular check-ups just to make sure.
She tells Britain’s New! magazine, "I’m not the kind of person who talks about my sex life, but I’m not afraid to talk about contraception. I go three, maybe four times a year to get tested (for sexually transmitted infections) and most of the time I don’t even need to. I just go for peace of mind."

British funnyman DAVID WALLIAMS once offered Hollywood star CAMERON DIAZ $10 (£5.40) - to do a yoga routine in front of him.
The Little Britain star was filming a U.S. version of the hit comedy in Los Angeles recently when he met the There’s Something About Mary actress at the fabled Chateau Marmont hotel.
