Rocker MEAT LOAF’s masterpiece BAT OUT OF HELL is to be honoured with a classic song award.
The Grammy-winning singer will be presented with the gong for the title track from his multi-million selling 1977 album at the Q Music magazine awards in London next Monday (06Oct08).
Organisers claim the epic song, which clocks in at just under 10 minutes long, deserves recognition for being a timeless classic.
Q magazine’s editor in chief, Paul Rees, says: "There are some songs that transcend such things as time and genre, and Bat Out Of Hell is assuredly one of them." Rockers Coldplay top the nominations with nods in four categories - Best Act in the World Today, Best Album for Viva la Vida or Death and all his Friends, and Best Track and Best Video for their hit Violet Hill.
Pop duo The Ting Tings have three nominations - for Best New Act, Best Video and Best Track for That’s Not My Name - while Welsh songstress Duffy is on the shortlist for Breakthrough Artist and Best Track for Mercy.

A trustee for HEATH LEDGER’s daughter MATILDA is suing the bosses of a U.S.
life insurance company for refusing to pay out on his $10 million (£5.4 million) policy - because they believe he may have committed suicide.
The Brokeback Mountain actor, 28, was found dead in his New York apartment in January (08).
The New York City Medical Examiner ruled he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, but executives at ReliaStar Life Insurance Company are investigating the possibility Ledger took his own life.
The firm, which is owned by ING Americas, wrote the policy in June 2007, and the insurance money was due to be paid out to an unnamed trustee who would hold the money until two-year-old Matilda comes of age.
But they have so far failed to honour the document and have launched their own probe into Ledger’s death to establish if he committed suicide, therefore voiding the policy.
According to website TMZ.com, the trustee has now filed suit against ReliaStar Life Insurance, accusing them of acting in bad faith by not promptly paying up and by wrongfully prying into Ledger’s life months after his death.
The trustee’s attorneys further accuse ReliaStar of acting "maliciously, fraudulently and/or oppressively… depriving plaintiff of the insurance policy benefits." But lawyers for the company have hit back, defending their actions.
In response to the lawsuit, they say: "ReliaStar is entitled to investigate Plaintiff’s claim to determine if the ‘Suicide’ provision is applicable." That provision states, "If the Insured commits suicide … we will pay only the amount of premiums paid to us." ReliaStar’s attorneys now intend to take depositions from the masseuse who found the actor dead, and Ledger’s pal Mary-Kate Olsen, who was the first person the beauty therapist called when she discovered Ledger’s body.
The insurance company is also claiming that Ledger lied on his policy application over whether he was taking any prescription drugs, which constitutes a "material misrepresentation".

Friends of troubled British star AMY WINEHOUSE are terrified the singer will spiral out of control and "do something she can’t overcome".
The Rehab hitmaker has left pals so worried that they don’t want to leave the "fragile" singer on her own.
Winehouse has faced a string of health issues over the last year (07/08), has battled drink and drug addictions, and was rushed to hospital after collapsing at her house in London in July (08).
A friend of the star tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, "No one wants to leave Amy on her own - she’s in a very fragile state at the moment.
"Her most loyal friends are terrified she is going to do something which she can’t overcome.
"She’s been to hell and back already but some fear she’s going to get worse before she gets better."

DENNIS QUAID has slammed his ex-wife MEG RYAN for revealing all about their 2000 marriage break-up, insisting her allegations of his infidelity will only cause their son JACK more "pain" and "turmoil".
Ryan and Quaid have refused to divulge the details of their split for the past eight years, but the actress once dubbed ‘America’s sweetheart’ recently opened up about the dark days that followed her divorce.
She told America’s InStyle magazine, "Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced." But Quaid is furious about her candid comments, and has chastised Ryan for dragging up the past - saying she should think twice about what she airs to the press if she wants to protect their 16-year-old son’s feelings.
And he has hinted that Ryan’s accusations of infidelity are not completely accurate - although he refuses to be drawn on more details.
He tells the New York Daily News, "It was eight years ago, and I find it unbelievable that Meg continues publicly to rehash and rewrite the story of our relationship.
"Also, I find it regrettable that our son, Jack, has to be reminded in a public way of the turmoil and pain that every child feels in a divorce." The Vantage Point star is now married to Kimberly Buffington, and the couple welcomed twins last year (07).
He adds, "I, myself, moved on years ago and am fortunate to have a happy, beautiful family."

DANIEL CRAIG chose the name of the forthcoming JAMES BOND movie QUANTUM OF SOLACE - because he didn’t want a grisly title with "death" in it.
The British actor rejected several potential names during a brainstorming session with producers - before insisting they go with the title of a short story by Bond creator Ian Fleming.
And he is adamant it was the right move - even though some movie critics have panned the name.
Craig tells Britain’s GQ magazine, "I was involved in making the decision.
Names were coming out, some ludicrous stuff was going back and forth - I can’t remember exactly, but you know the sort of thing: ‘The Blood On Your Face’.
"I knew I didn’t want ‘death’, ‘die’, ‘bleed’ or any of those things in the title." But the actor admits that in the great tradition of Bond movies, the film’s title is often meaningless.
He adds, "As soon as it came out, people were saying, ‘Ooh, it sounds like Harry Potter’. No, it’s Quantum of Solace. I was saying, ‘It’s a Bond title!’ "The name of a Bond film is not about anything. Live And Let Die? Octopussy? What does it mean? It means very little."

COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN has put a stop to his grumpy moods at gigs - so his fans can have a more enjoyable experience.
The singer has been accused of being moody at concerts in the past, but he vowed to stop when he realised it was his duty to make shows "fun" for fans.
He says, "The thing that switched for me one day, about six months ago, was thinking: ‘A concert is not so much about us - it’s about Dave or Klaus.’ "It’s about their day. They’ve come here from work or come here from school or whatever and it’s our job to make everyone have fun."

RUSSELL CROWE has reportedly been handed two roles in forthcoming film NOTTINGHAM.
The Gladiator star was confirmed to play the Sheriff of Nottingham - but will now also play lead Robin Hood in the new epic.
Sienna Miller will take on the role of Maid Marion in a new take on the famous Robin Hood tale.
And director Ridley Scott has added mystery to the traditional plot, saying, "It’s a good old adjustment of characters. One becomes the other. It changes." The movie is slated for a November 2009 release.

KATIE HOLMES will revisit her TV roots on small screen hit ELI STONE in spectacular style, donning a skin-tight unitard and performing a song and dance number.
Photographs of the actress in costume on the set of the U.S. comedy series have emerged, depicting the mum-of-one in seductive poses while wearing long gloves and a black catsuit in scenes reminiscent of the musical Chicago.

The Dirty Sexy Money star steps behind the camera to direct his wife Desiree, sons Paris, 11, and Blake, seven, and nine-year-old daughter Brielle, as they travel around the globe.
He reveals to OK! magazine, "We shoot movies ‘on location’. The kids write and star in them, and I direct them. We do posters and soundtracks too." And he admits the process has given Brielle the acting bug: "The boys couldn’t care less, but my daughter is into it. We were shooting a scene in Rome, and she said to me, ‘Can I get an agent and do this for real?’ Oh man."

Controversial comedian RUSSELL BRAND took heroin every day for 11 years - and was told he would die if he didn’t stop.
The British funnyman was hooked on the drug despite being told he could end up in prison if he continued taking it.
He says, "The first time I took heroin, I took heroin every day until I stopped 11 years later.
"They said, ‘If you don’t stop taking drugs now you’ll be dead, in a mental asylum, or in prison within six months’." And Brand, who hosted this year’s (08) MTV Video Music Awards, confesses he can still be a wildman even though he quit drugs in 2003.
He adds: "I still have little explosions of self-destruction."

LATEST: Hollywood legend PAUL NEWMAN’s family has urged film fans to honour the COOL HAND LUKE star - by doing a good turn for a friend.
The actor was almost as famous for his generous nature as for his roles in Oscar-winning classics Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting.
And, following his death on Friday (26Sep08), Newman’s family wants the world to pay tribute to the star by doing something philanthropic.
His daughter Melissa says, "I guess what I really wanted to say was that anybody who wants to honour the memory of my father should know that he was all about doing things for other people.
"And if anyone’s interested in honouring his memory, you could bring a bowl of soup to a friend or you could be philanthropic in some way, and just, you know, look out for each other."

Welsh singing sensation DUFFY fears she is heading towards a breakdown as she struggles to deal with the pressures of her meteoric rise to fame.
The Mercy star, who grew up in a tiny town in Wales, admits she finds it hard to be under constant media scrutiny, and didn’t expect having a successful career in the music industry would bring so many woes into her life - claiming she feels as if she has "sold her soul".
She says, "As a girl I thought I was superhuman… but I’m borderline on a breakdown.
"The scary thing is that this feels like the beginning. It would be easy to become a recluse… I have sold my soul.
And she admits the hardest part is dealing with flocks of fans in everyday situations.
She adds, "It can be scary when there are 15 lads on one side of a pub and a gang of girls on the other who all want a photo.
"I’m never calm anymore. There’s a lot to it I didn’t think of. It’s not the physical stuff - it’s mental."

KINGS OF LEON have scored a double by topping both the album and singles charts in the U.K.
The rockers’ single Sex On Fire holds onto the top spot for a third week, and their LP, Only By The Night, has shot straight to number one in the album charts.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad LP and Duffy’s Rockferry have each moved up a place to two and three respectively.
The Pussycat Dolls’ record Doll Domination is the only new entry in the top five at four, and Ne-Yo’s Year Of The Gentleman has dropped three places to number five.
In the singles chart, Katy Perry stays at number two with I Kissed A Girl, while Rihanna’s Disturbia has moved up two places to number three.

OASIS rocker NOEL GALLAGHER has buried his feud with arch rivals BLUR after 13 years - and confesses he is a fan of their music.
The Wonderwall hitmaker had a public falling out with the Parklife stars in 1995, when their records were released on the same day and went head-to-head in the British singles charts.
The two bands have remained enemies ever since, with frontmen Liam Gallagher and Damon Albarn often hurling insults at each other in public.
Now guitarist Noel Gallagher appears to have forgiven the band - by praising one of their songs.
Talking on British comedian Russell Brand’s BBC radio show on Sunday (28Sep08), he described Blur’s chart-topping single Beetlebum as "a great tune".
Gallagher also confirmed that Oasis’ world tour - which was put on hold after he was injured in an onstage attack at the V Festival in Toronto, Canada earlier this month (Sep08) - is back on.
He added: "(My ribs) are on the mend. The next gig is in 10 days in Liverpool (England). I’m not gonna be right for that, it takes another five weeks to heal up, but we’ve got to start that tour because it’ll be two years’ work out the window!"

ROBERT PLANT has denied new reports he will join LED ZEPPELIN for a reunion tour, branding the rumours "frustrating and ridiculous".
Reports in a U.K. tabloid last week (beg22Sep08) stated that Plant has agreed to hit the road with the other members of the band, despite having a successful solo career.
But Plant has slammed the claims and insists he has no plans to tour with anyone for at least two years after finishing his U.S. dates with Alison Krauss on 5 October (08).
A statement from the rocker says, "Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin. Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets." The rock legends reunited for a one-off concert, their first for 19 years, in London in December (07).
The statement continued: "It’s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward.
"I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects."

BUSTA RHYMES is desperate to work with AMY WINEHOUSE after meeting her backstage at the Orange RockCorps charity gig on Friday (25Sep08).

And before hitting the stage, he hooked up with Winehouse behind the scenes, and swapped numbers with the star so they could plan future collaborations but doubts she will follow through with her promise to call.
He tells the Britain’s Daily Star newspaper, "I would love to work with her.
I think she is a talented genius of an artist. She won’t pick up the damn phone but that’s OK. I ain’t mad at her."

AMY WINEHOUSE has spoken out about her troubled life - claiming she is "so sad" with the way things have turned out.
The Rehab star admitted her life is a "mess" in a rare and candid interview with Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper - and suggested her dreams were crumbling around her.
The star has caused concern for her health over the last 12 months, with multiple trips to hospital and stints in rehab to try and battle her drink and drug addictions.
And Winehouse also spoke about her fears for 12-year-old goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, who she gave a shambolic performance with at the Prince’s Trust End of Summer Ball bash on Thursday (25Sep08), insisting she reminds her of herself when she was a young aspiring singer.
She tells the publication, "When I look at Dionne she reminds me of myself. I used to be this little girl who liked Celine Dion and singing, this beautiful sweet girl with innocent dreams.
"Look where I am now. Look what happened to my dreams. This isn’t a life I’m a mess, look at me. But this girl has everything ahead of her. She’s so beautiful and she reminds me so much of myself.
"This beautiful happy girl, she is so much like I used to be. I don’t want to leave her alone. I can’t believe what has happened to me. I am so sad." The star faces police questioning after allegedly attacking a female fan at the event, after she reportedly lashed out at dancer Sherene Flash when she asked the star to pose for a photo.

ROD STEWART’s son SEAN has sparked rumours his romance with BARBRA STREISAND’s goddaughter is in trouble after stepping out with scratch marks on his face.
The hellraising Los Angeles socialite was spotted with facial scars when he left a Hollywood bar on Friday night (26Sep08).
When confronted by a paparazzo and asked about the marks, Stewart refused to disclose how he obtained them.
The snapper tells WENN, "These weren’t shaving scars or anything like that it looked as if a woman had lashed out at him." Stewart is reportedly engaged to TV presenter and singer Caleigh Peters, the daughter of Streisand’s ex-lover Jon Peters.
