GLOVER GOES ‘BLIND’ TO PREPARE FOR STAGE ROLES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:21 pm

Playing blind is nothing new for actor DANNY GLOVER, who loses his sight in new movie BLINDNESS - he wanders around empty theatres with his eyes closed to prepare for stage roles.
The Lethal Weapon star admits he calms his nerves backstage before plays by closing his eyes and walking around.
He explains, "There’s another kind of humility for me whenever you close your eyes and trust all the other senses that you often don’t use as much like hearing, and smell.
"I began to notice the difference from when I was going from outside to inside the building (without seeing) - the way the air feels. I always had a practice when I started doing theatre work. I’d close my eyes and walk from my dressing room to the stage and feel around; to get a sense of where I am the moment before I step on the stage.
"It’s a kind of tool I played around with to calm my body and provide a certain level of openness in saying that I’m giving myself to this energy in a sense."

HOUNDDOG DIRECTOR: ‘FANNING RAPE SCENE WAS ALL TECHNICAL’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:21 pm

Moviemaker DEBORAH KAMPMEIER is still defending her controversial movie HOUNDDOG a week after it was banned by a leading U.S. cinema chain, insisting her young star DAKOTA FANNING’s rape scene didn’t even include physical contact.
The writer/director has been blasted by family groups for featuring provocative scenes with child star Fanning, who plays a nine year old in the film.
But Kampmeier, who has been cleared of child exploitation accusations by officials in North Carolina - where the film was shot, insists she took the utmost care to protect her young stars in all the scenes that have upset critics.
And the controversial rape scene was nothing more than careful editing.
Kampmeier tells WENN, "When you take a shot of Dakota coming in the door, her foot tripping, a boy moving towards the camera, her face saying ’stop,’ and you put them together in the editing room you get a rape scene. We never rehearsed a rape scene. She never acted out a rape scene; it’s all so technical.
"I was a foot away from her face when we were shooting her face, which is all we have, other than her hands, in the rape scene. I was a foot away saying, ‘Hold your breath, hold your breath, don’t make a sound. Hold it, hold it, don’t make a sound.’ And then we’d go into the editing room and we’d remove my voice saying that and have her do an additional dialogue recording session.
"Why is it that people see heads blown off in movies all the time and no one says, ‘Oh my God, did they really have their head blown off?’" And Kampmeier insists another provocative scene, in which Fanning appears to be naked, was not what it seemed either.
She adds, "She had a full piece body suit on that was a nude colour. All you really see is her shoulders.
"Of course she was not naked. I have a daughter; I am a daughter. I cherish and honour the souls of girls and women. If I did anything to harm Dakota or anything exploitative, that would be betraying the whole reason I made this film."

RITCHIE DEFENDS FILM FLOPS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:33 pm

Director GUY RITCHIE has defended his box-office flop SWEPT AWAY, insisting it would have been hailed if he had made it before becoming famous.
The 2002 film, which starred Ritchie’s wife Madonna, was pounded by critics and ignored by cinema-goers.
It ‘won’ an unprecedented five Razzie Awards - a prizegiving naming and shaming the worst in the business - and was even described by Sophia Loren as "the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life".
But Ritchie insists his only mistake was to release the movie - and more recent flop Revolver - after finding fame and success with 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and 2000’s Snatch.
He tells Complex magazine, "I like the movie. Both Swept Away and Revolver weren’t supposed to be vastly successful movies. I was already established by then, but those are the kind of movies you should make before you’re established. I went about it all wrong."
