Singer CLAY AIKEN realised the difficulties of fatherhood when his son became sick just weeks after his birth.
The American Idol star and the baby’s mother - Aiken’s friend and record producer Jaymes Foster - feared for their son Parker’s health when he was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis, a condition that affects the gastrointestinal tract, in August (08).
And Aiken - who conceived Parker via in vitro fertilisation - quickly realised he had to start acting like a father.
He tells People.com, "He had been gassy for weeks and then he started throwing up.
"Jaymes and I were trying to be calm, rational parents, so we didn’t call the doctors too much, but it just got to a point where he was vomiting everything.
He was starting to get dehydrated.
"I was a little worried, like ‘I don’t think they’re going to let me in the hospital at two or three in the morning’. Then I thought, ‘Wait a second, I’m the father! Of course they’ll let me in’.
"It was the first moment when I thought, ‘I’m actually this child’s father!’ "I was like, wait a second, this is my responsibility, I need to take care of this child, and he can’t ask questions for himself. It was a reality check, like this is the real deal." Aiken says Parker is now on the road to recovery, adding, "He’s fine, healthy and doing well!"

Actress ASHLEY OLSEN is reportedly dating NATIONAL TREASURE star JUSTIN BARTHA - after they were spotted enjoying a night out together in Las Vegas.
Bartha is currently on location in the gambling Mecca, where he is believed to be filming new movie The Hangover.
Olsen, 22, flew to the city earlier this week (beg22Sep08) and was photographed attending a performance of musical Jersey Boys with Bartha on Tuesday (23Sep08), before they headed off for an intimate dinner together.
A source tells FoxNews.com, "(They) couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
They were rubbing each other, hand-touching and there was barely a break in their conversation.
"It’s pretty serious. Ashley is really comfortable with Justin. It’s a good fit.”

LATEST: Organisers of the forthcoming 2009 Academy Awards ceremony have denied British comedian RICKY GERVAIS is to present the event - insisting a host has not been chosen.
Previous stars to front the show include funnyman Chris Rock, TV host Ellen DeGeneres, and comedian Jon Stewart, who compered this year’s (08) event.
And The Office creator Gervais is hotly tipped to be named as host for the next ceremony.
But Larry Mark, a co-producer of the 81st annual event, insists that they have not yet decided on a host.
He tells E! Online, "We haven’t made one single phone call. There has been no reaching out." Academy president, Sid Ganis, adds, "We haven’t gotten that far yet. We’re just not there yet."

A Los Angeles judge has ruled the estate of LORD OF THE RINGS author JRR TOLKIEN cannot seek punitive damages against a film studio.
Tolkien’s heirs claim New Line Cinema failed to pay any royalties from the estimated $6 billion (£3.26 billion) made by the three films based on his trilogy.
The lawsuit is seeking more than $270 million (£150 million) in compensatory damages over an alleged breach of contract.
But New Line argued that Tolkien’s estate had to demonstrate a "public wrong" had been committed to claim punitive damages.
However, the estate has been permitted to seek compensatory damages based on breach of contract, fraud and other claims.
A trial has been scheduled for October 2009.

LATEST: Former IRON MAIDEN star BLAZE BAYLEY’s wife is critically ill in hospital after suffering a stroke.
The rocker’s wife Debbie was admitted to hospital in England in July (08) after a brain haemorrhage.
She has since been in a coma, but Bayley has confirmed his wife has now been re-admitted to an intensive care ward.
A message on his website reads, "Debbie suffered a stroke in hospital. This meant that she has been rushed back into intensive care and is once again critically ill.
"He, Debbie’s family and friends, and the whole band as well, very much appreciate all of the support that has been sent, especially the huge number of emails and messages."

Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE has given her goddaughter another career boost by performing alongside the 12-year-old at a star-studded party.
The Black to Black hitmaker was booked to appear at the Prince’s Trust End of the Summer Ball in London on Thursday (25Sep08) night.
And she surprised the celebrity-packed audience by marching on stage with Dionne Bromfield, allowing the youngster to sing with her.

FALL OUT BOY star PETE WENTZ has hit out at music bosses for allegedly using the band’s new video to promote a cellphone company.
The promo for new single I Don’t Care is said to have featured a variety of product placement shots of a Nokia phone.
And the version which was recently screened on the internet has reportedly angered bass player Wentz, who blasted the video on his official website.
He writes on his blog, "This will probably end up deleted either by me or someone else but the version of the video that we worked on night after night is not the version that aired. Yet somehow a cut full of glorious camera phone shots did. Just to let you know. It doesn’t make any sense to us. That bag of money is being donated straight to a cause far more worthy." The promo has since been removed from video sharing website YouTube, according to RollingStone.com.

LATEST: Rap superstar JAY-Z has confirmed a collaboration with Norwegian producers STARGATE to launch a new record label.
The hip-hop mogul, real name Shawn Carter, has teamed up with the beatmaking duo, consisting of Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen, to form StarRoc.
In a statement Jay-Z and Stargate say, "The focus is to find new talent and develop artists through mutually beneficial global partnerships which include music distribution, publishing, touring and merchandising." The new label is linked to Jay-Z’s multi-million dollar contract with concert promoters Live Nation, who he will join once he releases his final album on Def Jam, The Blueprint 3, later this year (08).

SIR ELTON JOHN proved he didn’t have the Midas touch at a London auction on Thursday (25Sep08) - a brooch he put under the hammer failed to attract any buyers.
The legendary singer offered the bejewelled item to exclusive auction house Bonhams in the British capital, and it was expected to be the biggest seller.
The ‘J’ shaped sapphire and diamond piece was displayed alongside a snap of the star wearing it in the video for his 1988 hit I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That.
But the piece didn’t interest any collectors - and was left unsold at the end of the auction, despite experts predicting it would fetch more than $22,200 (£12,000).
Auction bosses blamed the current turbulent economic climate as the reason for the piece not selling.

GLENN CLOSE, KATHLEEN TURNER and DOMINIC COOPER gave actor DANIEL RADCLIFFE a rousing reception as he made his Broadway debut in EQUUS on Thursday (25Sep08) The Harry Potter star took to the stage at New York’s Broadhurst Theatre and received rave reviews from co-stars and celebrity theatregoers for his first outing in the city’s famed theatre district.
Radcliffe, who plays a disturbed teenager with a sexual interest in horses, admitted he was "terrified" about his Big Apple theatre debut as the role required him to perform naked again.
But Turner, who herself appeared nude in her West End performance of The Graduate, congratulated the young star on taking a risk.
She says, "If it’s in the play, if it’s in the story, if it’s necessary, then it’s right. The fact that he’s willing to learn and risk is all to his credit." And Radcliffe’s co-star and fellow Harry Potter actor Richard Griffiths praised the 19-year-old’s performance, saying he had come a long way since his West End debut in 2006.
He adds, "He’s not a kid anymore. He’s a young man and he deserves whatever breaks that brings." The stage show’s stars celebrated Radcliffe’s turn with an opening night party for 400 guests.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN has denied criticising ROBERT De NIRO on the set of 1997 movie JACKIE BROWN - insisting a leaked audio tape of his conversation with director QUENTIN TARANTINO has been "taken out of context".
New York gossip column PageSix has obtained an audio tape of Weinstein purportedly complaining about the actor to Tarantino.
De Niro - who played ex-con Louis Gara in the movie - apparently believed he should have been paid more for his role in the film.
In the tape, Weinstein says, "He thinks he’s going to… make John Travolta look like that was an amateur night in Dixie," referring to Travolta’s big screen comeback in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
He adds, "This is a great actor and actually a great guy, who’s going through a difficult time… I think he’s really having like a scratching-his-head session, you know, with his own life and his own career.
"I think he knows he can play a certain kind of role from now for the next 20 years. But I think he wants to change the course of his career." But Weinstein’s lawyer, David Boies, says the content of the tape has been taken out of context.
He tells the publication, "We are disappointed that any member of the press is trafficking in illegal tape recordings and compounding the damage by taking them out of context." Meanwhile, De Niro’s spokesman says, "Unless you were privy to actual conversations… I would draw an analogy to the blind man who picks up the tail of an elephant and exclaims, ‘This animal must be quite slender and very wiry’."

British comedian MATT LUCAS has given up on his mission to lose weight - after fans took naked photographs of him in the gym.
The rotund star’s secret was exposed by his Little Britain co-star David Walliams on a U.S talk show.
Walliams told Lucas during an interview on the Late Show with Conan O’Brien, "You stopped going to the gym because someone tried to take a picture of you naked on their camera phone while you were in the changing room.
