Mafia classic THE GODFATHER has beaten RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and STAR WARS: EPISODE V - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK to be named the greatest movie of all time in a new poll.
Director Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 film, which starred Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, topped Britain’s Empire magazine survey to find the best picture ever.
More than 10,000 movie fans, critics and filmmakers, including Quentin Tarantino and Mike Leigh, took part in the poll.
Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark came in second place, and the 1980 Star Wars film came third.

Actress JENNA FISCHER has found love again one year after announcing her divorce from Hollywood filmmaker JAMES GUNN.
The Office star stepped out with new boyfriend, writer Lee Kirk, at the weekend (21Sep08) for Sunday’s 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
When asked to introduce her companion, Fischer coyly described Kirk as "my super cute boyfriend," adding, "We met through mutual friends. We’ve actually known each other for a long time. He went to college with an old friend of mine." And the in-love actress admits she was eager to introduce her new beau to her acting family.
She says, "The Office (U.S. version) is like a second family, so it is an important introduction to me, particularly (co-star) Angela (Kinsey). (Kirk) is a writer and he is originally from Dallas, so Angela immediately liked that I was dating a fellow Texan.” Fischer ended her seven-year marriage to Gunn last September (07) and has been dating Kirk since January (08).

Fashion designer NICKY HILTON and her TV producer boyfriend DAVID KATZENBERG are planning a winter (08/09) wedding, according to reports.
The couple, both 25, has been dating for the past two years, and has decided to take the plunge and tie the knot.
They were overheard chatting about their plans earlier this month (Sep08) at a Los Angeles restaurant.
An insider tells Star magazine, "They are thinking about a December or January wedding.
"They want it to take place after the Christian and Jewish holidays." Hilton is the sister of Paris Hilton and daughter of Hilton hotel heir Rick and Kathy Hilton. Katzenberg’s dad is Shrek movie producer Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Actor PATRICK DEMPSEY has vowed to continue in his role on hit TV show GREY’S ANATOMY as long as he is given good storylines.
The star - who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd in the popular medical drama - has been dogged by rumours he will quit the show to concentrate on his budding movie career.
But Dempsey insists he will only walk if his character gets left out of the juicy plotlines.
He says, "Well, I have a contract for two more years. That’s a long time, we’ll see what happens with the show. The show has been very good to me.
"I hope the storylines continue. I need good story lines and that’s what will keep me or not keep me."

OLIVER STONE fears America will be "stuck" with GEORGE W. BUSH’s policies for 20 years after he stands down as president.
The director’s biopic of Bush - simply titled W - is due to be released in November (08).
And he has hit out at studio bosses who refused to bankroll the project, insisting it is still relevant even though the president is coming to the end of his term in office.
Stone tells USA Today newspaper, "I think Bush is going to be accountable to history in a big way. These people who dismissed this movie, who wouldn’t give us the money to make it - especially the American studios - had this attitude that he’s too hot a potato and at the same time, he’s going away in January, ‘So who cares?’ "Who cares? I’ll tell you what - his policies are going to be still paying off 20 years from now. (The younger) generation is stuck with his policies. To have this lighthearted attitude, this superficial attitude, that he’s gone in January… He’s not gone, baby."

CHRISTIAN BALE-starring serial killer movie AMERICAN PSYCHO is heading to Broadway - as a musical.
The British star got his big Hollywood break as an adult star, playing 1980s Wall Street murderer Patrick Bateman in the 2000 adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel.
Now theatre bosses are hoping to recapture the film’s cult success by adapting it for the New York stage with the help of the film’s producers Ellis and Edward R. Pressman, who will serve as consultants.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the rights have been bought and the project is at the development stage, with the show slated for a 2010 opening despite having yet to secure a director, scriptwriter or songwriters.

LATEST: MARY-KATE and ASHLEY OLSEN have hit back at the New York neighbours who recently accused the twins of disrupting the area with their party antics.
The 22-year-old media mogul sisters have come under fire from residents in the city’s West Village district, amid accusations that the pair made too much noise and caused a commotion with their legions of bodyguards.
But a spokesman for the sisters insists that if residents in the area have a problem, they should have aired their concerns with the Olsens directly.
The representative tells British magazine OK, "If there were significant issues, you’d think the neighbours would address Mary-Kate or Ashley directly, rather than calling the media."

SIR CLIFF RICHARD once feared his career would be ruined by the BEATLES.
The Fab Four dominated the music scene in the 1960s and Richard was petrified the band would over take him in the charts.
And he admits his concerns were only eased after seeking advice from his manager.

AMERICAN IDOL star CLAY AIKEN struggled for most of his life to accept his sexuality because he was convinced it was just a "phase".
The 29-year-old singer revealed he was homosexual in the new issue of U.S.
magazine People, featuring him in a photospread with his new baby son Parker on the cover.
And Aiken recalls it wasn’t until he moved out from his North Carolina home to the west coast that he felt comfortable enough to make the admission.
He recalls, "I don’t know many people who are (gay) who weren’t confused…
When I got out to Los Angeles and I realised there are ‘normal’ people who are (gay), it became a little easier for me… The first person I ever told was (fellow American Idol finalist) Kim Locke, and that’s why we became best friends and roommates. It was the first time I ever admitted it to myself…
"I probably didn’t realise until college, when I was like, I just cannot get the hang of this! I thought it was always a phase, like I hadn’t hit puberty.
Like I hadn’t finished yet. Like I was a late bloomer… I was raised around people who thought it was a choice."

R&B beauty CIARA is upset with the editors of America’s Vibe magazine - because they altered her "artistic" cover shot so it appeared to be a nude photoshoot.
The Goodies hitmaker, 22, seemed to bare all for the October (08) issue of the music publication - she was depicted squatting wearing what appeared to be nothing but a pair of black high heels.
Vibe’s Editor in Chief Danyel Smith recently claimed the singer was photographed as she appears on the cover - naked - at her own request.
She said, "I’m actually really sad. Almost any photo you see on the cover of Vibe or any magazine is airbrushed (to some degree). What I was thinking of doing, actually, was releasing the untouched photos (on Vibe’s) website, so people can see what the hullabaloo (fuss) is all about. I have so much respect for Ciara, and Ciara was so happy when she pitched this idea to us, and the photos are actually striking and beautiful. It was pitched to me in a way that it was time (for her) to grow up and be beautiful and be free and be all the things she wanted to be." But Ciara insists she didn’t show that much skin when the cover images were shot, and is saddened that fans were "misled" by the airbrushed images.
She tells MTV.com, "I think, at this point, I’d rather just be quiet about things such as that (the ‘nude’ shoot) but I definitely want to make it clear that I was going in to do something artistic, and I was upset that when I saw the photos, everything was gone.
"I walked into the Vibe photo shoot very excited about making an artistic expression. And when I saw the photos, I was a little bothered because the photos appear as if I was nude, and I wasn’t nude…
"It’s very, very upsetting and somewhat misleading."

AMERICAN IDOL star CLAY AIKEN’s fear of alienating fans did not dissuade him from revealing his homosexuality in a recent interview - because he refuses to "lobby" for their support.
The singer revealed he was homosexual in the new issue of U.S. magazine People after enduring a string of reports questioning his sexuality.
Featured in a photospread with his new baby son Parker on the cover, Aiken admits he struggles with the idea of losing fans over the admission, but has spoken out in the hope that the truth won’t affect their support.
He tells the magazine, "Of course I struggle with that. I think my bigger concern would be to let people know that I’ve never intended to lie to anybody at all. The truth is I didn’t answer questions. If I felt that I was lied to, I would probably be upset.
"I’ll tell you what I’ve kind of explained to my mum: it’s not like I just became gay. I was when I was 18 - I just wasn’t telling them. The fans, if they leave, they leave… I’m not lobbying to keep them being supportive. I sure hope they do. But I am more interested in them knowing I care about them even if they don’t care about me."

OASIS rocker LIAM GALLAGHER feared his brother NOEL had been stabbed when a fan rushed the stage and attacked him during a gig in Canada earlier this month (Sep08).
The guitarist fell awkwardly when fan Daniel Sullivan tackled him to the ground at a show in Toronto, Canada on 7 September (08) and he has been nursing three broken and dislodged ribs ever since.
As a result, the group had to scrap the remaining dates of their North American tour, as well as postponing three additional shows in Europe.
And singer Liam admits he thought the worst when he saw Noel fall onstage.
He tells MTV Two, "It was f**king dark…but it could’ve been a lot worse that’s the way I look at it. The guy (culprit)’s gonna get dealt (sic) with. I thought he (Noel) had been stabbed." Liam also vows to protect his older brother from any future incidents, adding, "It won’t be happening again I can assure you of that." But Liam wasn’t the only one who thought Noel had been the victim of a knife attack - the guitarist himself assumed he’d been stabbed too.
Noel explains, "At first…’cos it had been raining and there were puddles around…I thought I’d been stabbed… for a split second I s**t it (panicked)." However, Noel is insistent on not giving his attacker any more coverage, because he doesn’t deserve the attention.
He says, "Loads of Oasis fans put his name on the website and did ‘wanted’ posters…which just adds to the infamy."

Producers of SAMUEL L. JACKSON and late comic BERNIE MAC’s film SOUL MEN have brushed off claims the movie is based on legendary musician SAM MOORE, after the furious soul singer threatened legal action.
Jackson and Mac play an estranged R&B duo in the movie - a plot Moore claims is too similar to his own career with late musician Dave Prater.
Moore, 72, admits he has yet to see the film, but claims he was informed by unnamed sources that producers used his music to set the mood for scenes in the film, reports the New York Daily News.
He tells the newspaper: "In the movie, they have a reunion concert. Dave and I had a reunion in 1982 after not talking with each other for years.
"Sam Jackson and Bernie Mac sing Hold On, I’m Coming. That’s also our song." The singer also claims production company bosses at Dimension Films "tried to buy me out" with a $1,000 (£541) offer for a walk-on role.
Disappointed with the offer and the use of the N-word in the film, Moore says he is consulting lawyers about the project, adding: "A thousand dollars! Whoa.
You know, slavery times have ended.
"Even when Dave and I were fighting and cursing, we never used that (the N) word. It’s an insult to every one of us who fought in the civil rights movement.
"I don’t understand how this can happen. It’s not right." But producer David Friendly has denied a direct link to Moore in the film, insisting the story is completely fictional.
He says: "Everything in the movie is completely made up. The characters are back-up singers, unlike Sam and Dave, who were headliners. (Producer) Bob Weinstein’s brother Harvey Weinstein suggested at a party that Sam might be in the movie. But Sam declined the offer. No money was ever discussed. Just because they sing one Sam and Dave song doesn’t make it a movie about them. I think it’s unfair of (Moore) to criticise a movie he hasn’t seen." The film premieres at New York’s famed Apollo on 24 October (08).

LATEST: Actress MISCHA BARTON has laughed off reports she’s looking for love with actor JOSH HARTNETT, after the pair was recently seen leaving a London nightclub together.
The former The O.C. star hooked up with Hartnett and a male friend of his at the trendy Bungalow 8 club in the British capital during a party held in celebration of London Fashion Week (beg14Sep08).
Barton was seen chatting to Hartnett at the nightspot, before she and a group of pals accompanied him to his hotel in nearby Soho, according to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, fuelling reports of a romance.

MICHAEL JACKSON is nervous about what fans and critics will think of his new album, according to R&B star NE-YO.
The Closer hitmaker - who worked with Jackson on the comeback record - admits the Thriller star is hesitant about its release.
The album was due to be released at the end of the year (08), but is now likely to hit store shelves next year (09).
Ne-Yo says, “He keeps putting it off. Michael is very nervous as he knows he’s the underdog and people want him to fail.
"It’s tough when all eyes are on him and there is so much young competition out there. This album needs to be better than Thriller. He wants killer melodies."

Movie musical MAMMA MIA! still reigns over the international box office, taking $14 million (£7.56 million) in the last week (begs15Sep08).
The ABBA-inspired film, starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, is pulling in audiences worldwide, taking its global haul to $475 million (£256.7 million) - $334 million (£180.5 million) of which was taken outside of the U.S.

Hollywood hardman BRUCE WILLIS is moving behind the camera lens to make his directorial debut in independent movie THREE STORIES ABOUT JOAN.
