BARKER/GOLDSTEIN’S PLANE CRASH ESCAPE DETAILED BY POLICE
BLINK-182 rocker TRAVIS BARKER and ADAM ‘DJ AM’ GOLDSTEIN only survived the tragic weekend plane crash by tackling each other in an attempt to put out the flames that engulfed their bodies.
The pair was hospitalised on Friday (19Sep08) for second and third-degree burns they suffered in the crash, after the plane they were travelling in failed to clear the runway in South Carolina and burst into flames.
Lieutenant Josh Shumpert of the South Congaree Police Department was the second responder at the scene after airport police arrived. His patrol car’s dashboard camera caught the video of the blazing aftermath.
He tells People.com: "(Travis and Adam) told me that they slid down the wing on the right side of the plane.
"They said they were on fire, and that they tackled each other and put each other out." Barker, 32, and 35-year-old Goldstein are expected to fully recover from their injuries, although doctors admit the recovery period could take as long as a year.
Four people died in the crash, including the pair’s close friend Charles Still, 25, and Barker’s assistant Chris Baker, 29.
