PARIS HILTON is supporting proposals by Los Angeles police to curb the hoardes of paparazzi in the city.
The socialite claims there is a fine line between business and pleasure and backs the city police’s plans to create a personal safety zone between celebrities and photographers.
She says, "It is okay for paparazzi to go to a press event or a red carpet but when it is every single day when you are going to the market or the tanning salon or to lunch with your family, it is a lot of pressure always having to be ‘on’.
"Sometimes there will be 50 or 100. They are like rats. All my cars are completely scratched up from their battery packs and cameras. They jump on your car and dent the windows."

KATIE HOLMES was met by 100 anti-Scientology demonstrators ahead of her preview Broadway performance of All My Sons.
The actress - who is married to Scientologist Tom Cruise - arrived at New York’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Thursday night (18Sep08) to chants of "Scientology kills!" Cruise arrived at the theatre to watch his wife’s debut but was unfazed by the demonstrators as he sat with fellow actor Dustin Hoffman.

LATEST: The son of rock legend BRYAN FERRY has been remanded in custody after allegedly perverting the course of justice by trying to discredit a witness in his robbery and assault trial.
Otis Ferry was arrested and charged in April (08) after he was accused of wrestling a video camera from one woman as she filmed him reportedly taking part in a fox hunt - which is now an illegal sport in the U.K.
Ferry was also accused of smashing another woman’s car window and hitting her with the radio antenna, which he had snapped off the same vehicle prior to the alleged attack.
The 25-year-old - who denies the charges - was due to stand trial on Monday (15Sep08) but the jury was sent home following accusations Ferry tried to discredit a witness.
He is accused of having telephoned his groomsman David Hodgkiss on 8 September (08) and "instructed him not to provide the police with certain evidence in relation to an allegation of robbery".

Actress JOANNA LUMLEY has threatened to quit Britain if former Nepalese Gurkha soldiers lose their battle to stay in the country.
The Indian-born British actress, whose father fought alongside the Gurkhas in the British army, has pledged her support to hundreds of former Nepalese Gurkha soldiers as they began their legal fight over settlement rights.
But Lumley claims she will hand back her British passport and become an Indian national if the veteran soldiers lose their battle.
She says, "There is something wrong here. If they don’t put it right I think there will be hell to pay. I feel so strongly about this.
"If this should go wrong for the Gurkhas I’m prepared to hand back my British passport and I’ll take up Indian nationality.
"I was born in India; I had to pay to belong to this country. I was a British subject but not a citizen. If they despise them so much then they can despise me."

HARRY POTTER author J.K. ROWLING will be honoured by the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, on Friday (19Sep08).
The writer - who penned the famous boy wizard novels in the city - will receive the Edinburgh Award, which recognises an individual’s outstanding achievements and contribution to the city.
She says, "It is an absolute honour to receive this award, as Edinburgh is very much home for me and is the place where Harry evolved over seven books and many, many hours of writing in its cafes.
"So much has happened to me both professionally and personally since I moved here nearly 15 years ago, that to receive this recognition is particularly meaningful and special."

LATEST: Actor RYAN O’NEAL "will be fully vindicated" of all drug charges, according to the star’s lawyer.
O’Neal, 67, and son Redmond, 24, were booked by Los Angeles police after authorities found illegal substances during a probation search involving Redmond at his father’s Malibu home on Wednesday (17Sep08).
Redmond was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine, while a vial of the drug was found in Ryan O’Neal’s bedroom.
But his lawyer Mark Werksman insists the drugs do not belong to the star.
He tells People.com, "Those were not Ryan’s drugs, he doesn’t use drugs, and has nothing to do with them.
"It’s a dangerous assumption for deputies to have arrested Ryan just because he was in proximity to the drugs." "This situation is very upsetting to Ryan because he’s just trying to lead his life quietly. I have full confidence that Ryan will be vindicated."

RONNIE WOOD’s estranged wife JO insists she is enjoying life as a single woman.
Wood’s marriage to Jo hit the rocks earlier this year (Jun08) after it emerged he had an affair with 20-year-old Russian Ekaterina Ivanova.
Wood went into rehab to curb his addiction to alcohol, but it appears he has failed to kick his habits after he was recently spotted on a booze-fuelled night out with British artist Damien Hirst.
The latest images forced Jo to call an end on their 23-year marriage.
But Jo is not bitter about the split - insisting she is happy.
She says, "I’m enjoying my new freedom. I’m a lucky woman.
"I’ve got so much love and support. I don’t have to put a brave face on. I’ve got my kids that love me, my family and my friends."

Rockers THE VERVE have promised fans they will not be splitting for a second time.
The group first split in 1999 after they were rocked by the departure of guitarist Nick McCabe.
Rumours the band was to split for a second time surfaced after they cancelled a string of festival appearances this summer (08).
But bassist Simon Jones has reassured fans they will stick together.
He says, "I don’t think any of us would be that careless again.

KINGS OF LEON star CALEB FOLLOWILL was inspired to write the band’s latest album after taking prescription painkillers following a fight with one of his brothers.
The frontman was forced onto the strong medication after a drunken brawl with his brother and fellow bandmate Nathan led to him dislocating his shoulder.
But the ensuing surgery and drugs gave the star the inspiration to pen tracks for the band’s upcoming fourth album Only By The Night.
He explains, "They were pretty serious meds. The prescription said I should take a lot more than I was taking but I just couldn’t do it. It was too much.
"But whenever I was taking them, I felt good. As soon as I started to come down, I was supposed to take another.
"After a while, I felt trapped. There was nothing to do and everything was kind of boring so I’d just write songs and, in the process, I really expanded my mind."

NINE INCH NAILS have cancelled a string of gig in South America, citing "unforeseen technical issues".
The band was scheduled to play three dates, beginning in Sao Paulo on 7 October (08).
It is not the first time the band has pulled out of a gig. In August (08), they cancelled shows in Massachusetts and Minnesota so Trent Reznor could recover from a sore throat.

LATEST: Rapper NATE DOGG suffered a stroke because of his unhealthy lifestyle, according to a family member.
The hip-hop artist, cousin of Snoop Dogg, suffered a second stroke earlier this week (begs15Sep08).
The star - real name Nathaniel Dawayne Hale - was paralysed on the left side of his body following a first mild stroke in December last year (07).
Relative Donald Smith claims Hale was on life support with a feeding tube at a Los Angeles hospital, but was taken off the apparatus on Thursday (18Sep08).
And Smith blames the star’s poor diet for the stroke.
He tells E! News, "He has suffered another stroke from his bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle. All we can do now is pray for him".

Movie tough girl MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ is set to show off her soft side by writing a new kids’ movie.
The Lost and Girlfight star says her first family film will be a "Jumanji meets Goonies" with an environmental twist.
She tells WENN, "It’s a 2012 story about purity and animals and children. The premise behind it is all the animals on earth freak out and start attacking anything that’s not pure because of a seance that occurred in the rainforest after it’s depletion in 2012. It becomes cataclysmic.
"I’m in Italy trying to write this thing and I’ve only got 15 pages done so far. I’ve had this idea in my head since I was 15 and I’m trying to capture today’s children and it’s so intense because I don’t know anything these kids are into, but I do know they are well informed.
"Kids are smart, so to capture them will be interesting. I’m focusing the film on 12 or 13 year olds."

Talk show queen OPRAH WINFREY has signed up for a guest spot on TV comedy 30 ROCK in a bid to boost the show’s flagging ratings.
The Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey-starring sitcom is critically acclaimed, but has struggled to attract viewers - prompting NBC bosses to look for guest stars.
Winfrey shot her role at the weekend (13Sep08), and will appear in one episode on 6 November (08).
NBC boss Teri Weinberg says, "Oprah Winfrey’s presence on 30 Rock makes this episode a television event. She is a true legend in her own time, and in this comedy’s tradition, it provides the perfect showcase for stars of her renowned status. DAVID BLAINE has been starving himself for a week to prepare for his latest death-defying stunt.
The illusionist will hang upside down above New York’s Central Park for 60 hours, starting on 22 September (08).
To ready himself for the trauma, Blaine carried out a short trial run, and has been depriving himself of food and sleep.
He tells WENN, "I’ve actually practiced it, but only for six hours. Also, I’ve stopped eating a week ago and lost 20 pounds." But Blaine admits this task will be his toughest yet: "This is by far the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. I thought being in a block of ice for 63 hours was, but that was nothing compared to this."

Ex TV star JOAN PRATHER was arrested for felony hit-and-run at the weekend (13/14Sep08) after allegedly busting through police barricades and dragging a cop along Malibu, California’s Pacific Coast Highway.
According to the Malibu Surfside News the one-time Eight is Enough actress passed through a section of the highway closed off for the Malibu triathlon.
When a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy raised his hand to signal for her to stop, Prather reportedly drove on, hooking his watch on her car and dragging him for six metres (20 feet).
The newspaper claims the officer was treated for a sprained arm, and Prather was arrested and released on $50,000 (£27,000) bail.
Prather’s representative has not returned requests for a comment.

LATEST: GARY COLEMAN’s attorney has blasted the reckless driving charges his client faces, insisting he "did nothing wrong".
The actor and his wife Shannon Price have been accused of hitting Colt Rushton with their car after leaving a Utah bowling alley, where the plaintiff attempted to take photographs of the couple.
But Coleman’s lawyer Randy Kester clams the star was "stalked" by Rushton prior to the alleged incident.
He says, "The charges against Mr. Coleman are absolutely ridiculous. Mr.
Coleman is absolutely confident that he did nothing wrong." "This man brought it on himself. (Mr. Coleman) was simply trying to leave the bowling alley and this man stalked him." Rushton is also suing Coleman for medical bills, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.
Rushton’s attorney, Dustin Lance, says, "This wasn’t a situation of paparazzi or stalker-razzi, this was a fan snapping two photographs with a cell phone." Coleman is due to appear in court on 14 October (08). He faces a maximum of six months in jail if convicted of reckless driving, and a fine if found guilty of another allegation of disorderly conduct.

American baseball star ALEX RODRIGUEZ has divorced his wife - just two months after he was accused of having an extra marital affair with MADONNA.
Rodriguez’s wife Cynthia filed for divorce in July (08) following ongoing speculation the New York Yankees star was secretly dating the pop superstar.
Both denied the allegations.
Cynthia blamed her husband’s "long period of infidelity" for wrecking their marriage, and accused him of "emotionally abandoning" her and their children.
In her divorce petition, Cynthia Rodriguez demanded the couple’s $12 million (£6.6 million) waterfront estate in Coral Gables, Florida.
On Thursday (18Sep08), the former couple announced it had finally settled the multimillion-dollar divorce case - but details of the settlement have not been made public.
Alex Rodriguez’s attorney, Alan Kluger, tells the New York Daily News, "Cynthia and Alex Rodriguez have amicably resolved their dissolution of marriage proceedings.
"They deliberately engaged in a private negotiation. This was and remains a personal family matter for both of them.
"All of their decisions were based upon, and guided by, the best interests of their daughters." The couple married in 2002. They have two daughters, Natasha, three, and Ella, five months.
