LINDSAY LOHAN’s father MICHAEL has come to his daughter’s defence after U.S.
presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA reportedly rejected the actress’ offer to help raise funds for his race to the White House.
The Mean Girls star allegedly offered to host a fundraiser to rally support for his candidacy among young voters.
The offer was reportedly snubbed because of Lohan’s wild past - she is a reformed drug and alcohol addict who spent several sessions in rehab last year (08).
Obama’s Democrat camp are said to have refused to invite Lohan to campaign for them because she "is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us".
But Lohan’s dad Michael, who has a turbulent relationship with his famous daughter, has hit out at Obama’s people, insisting the actress will turn her life around like former Hollywood hellraiser Angelina Jolie.
He tells TMZ.com, "Everyone is entitled to an opinion and so is Obama and his staff. Then again, you know what they say about opinions.
"Unfortunately, for them, to make such a comment about my daughter was a big mistake… Look at Angelina Jolie and the wonderful things she has done in her life, and now watch how Lindsay does the same."

JOSEPH FIENNES and ROSAMUND PIKE are to go head-to-head with real-life couple PAUL BETTANY and JENNIFER CONNELLY - in movies about naturalist CHARLES DARWIN.
All four Hollywood stars are lining up to appear in films about Darwin, who developed the controversial theory of evolution, which argued that humans descended from apes.
Bettany and Connelly have started shooting their flick, Creation, while Fiennes and Pike are preparing for similar roles in Mrs Darwin.
And the former Bond girl insists her own fascination with Darwin’s theories have helped her in the role.
She says, "I’m definitely a Darwinist, but playing his wife has been a real eye-opener. She was very religious and his discoveries placed a heavy strain on their marriage. We are exploring different angles to his story." The films are set to coincide with the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth in 2009.

Actor DAVID THEWLIS is forced to hand his props back to security staff on the set of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE - in case they missing.
The British star, who plays Remus Lupin in the hit wizard franchise, reveals security is so tight that the film’s cast have to give back their props as soon as the cameras stop rolling.
Thewlis says, "You finish a scene and the crew treat your wand like it was a diamond and take it straight off you. Filming hasn’t even finished and there is already a big fight for the props."

LATEST: The identity of BRAD GARRETT’s secret girlfriend has been revealed, just days after the actor launched a new online dating show in an attempt to find love following his divorce.
The Everybody Loves Raymond star insisted he had grown tired of living the single life since his split from wife Jill Diven last year (07), and has spent the summer (08) screening female applicants for his upcoming web show Dating Brad Garrett.
The actor came under fire soon after announcing his plans for the show, when he was photographed enjoying the company of a woman reported by the New York Post to be Lisa Gores - a major figure in the high-profile court case against celebrity private investigator Anthony Pellicano.
The alleged couple has been seen in New York and Los Angeles since March (08), reportedly keeping their relationship under wraps amid allegations the show was a mere publicity stunt.
As WENN went to press, a lawyer for Gores said she could not be reached.
And a spokesman for Garrett has refused to dismiss the claims, telling the New York Post: "I don’t comment on Brad’s personal life."

Actor JOSHUA JACKSON was left with a bloody nose after a dangerous stunt on his new U.S. TV show sent him rushing to the emergency room.
The former Dawson’s Creek star plays the son of an eccentric scientist in new series, Fringe.
However, his return to the small screen was shortlived when he had to be taken to hospital after a copper wire was shoved up his nose for a scene, hitting a vein and jeopardising his role.
But he’s convinced the show will be a smash, telling the National Enquirer, "I can now say that I have literally put my blood into this show."

MARY-KATE and ASHLEY OLSEN have infuriated their New York neighbours with their hard-partying ways - just months after moving homes in the city for the same reason.
The 22-year-old media mogul sisters abandoned their multi-million dollar New York penthouse in May (08) amid allegations by former neighbours their celebrity lifestyle was a nuisance.
But just months after their move into the city’s star-studded West Village area at a reported $12,000 (£6,000)-a-month price tag, the twins’ new neighbours are already eager to see them go.
One angry resident tells the National Enquirer: "They are two little brats invading us with a team of bodyguards. These men sit in their GMC Denalis (sports utility vehicles) with their engines idling and they have spoiled the environment for us. This was such a quiet area. Many celebrities live in Greenwich Village without the need for such high-powered armored protection.
"The girls come and go at all hours. My wife saw one of them earlier this week arriving back at the house at 7am." Another resident adds: "I am glad they are just renting. At least it means they won’t be here for good." And delivery man Lou Vancooten admits he pities locals after witnessing the daily commotions.
He says, "I see the security detail at least two or three times a week. They always pull up outside the property and let the girls out. They are always there. I feel for their poor neighbours."

Actor JEREMY LONDON’s estranged wife MELISSA CUNNINGHAM has taken out a restraining order against the star - accusing him of lashing out at her in violent, drug-fuelled attacks.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered the former 7th Heaven star to stay at least 100 yards (91 meters) away from Melissa, 37, and her home, reports the National Enquirer.
According to court documents filed last month (Aug08), Cunningham alleges: "I am afraid for my safety and the safety of our son", and reportedly recounts an incident when London broke her nose in a violent brawl. She adds that he "jumped up and knocked me around. He kicked me in the stomach with our son in my arms." The 35-year-old actor was slapped with a restraining order in 2004 after he was arrested for allegedly throwing his wife out of his car at the side of a California freeway.
A source adds of the star’s alleged drug-fuelled behaviour: "Jeremy is stable when he’s not high, but when he goes off on one of his drug and alcohol binges, he turns into a violent madman." The couple married in September 2006 and Cunningham is reportedly asking for sole custody of their 19-month-old son, Lyrik.
Their spokespersons have each declined to comment on the allegations.

Troubled actress TATUM O’NEAL has broken her silence following her father and brother’s arrest on Wednesday (17Sep08) on suspicion of narcotics possession.
Ryan O’Neal, 67, and Redmond O’Neal, 24, were booked by Los Angeles police after authorities found illegal substances during a probation search involving Redmond at his father’s Malibu home.
Redmond was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine, while a vial of the drug was found in Ryan O’Neal’s bedroom, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed.
And Redmond’s Oscar-winning older sister, Tatum, has spoken out in defence of the pair, recalling her own struggle with addiction.
She says: "Addiction, if untreated, can lead to jail, institutions and death.
I love them both, and I am sorry to hear about this." The actress hit the headlines in June (08) when she was arrested in New York after attempting to buy crack and powder cocaine from a homeless man.
Her father and younger sibling are currently being held on $10,000 (£5,405) bail.

OASIS rocker NOEL GALLAGHER has some "brilliant" songs lined up for his solo album - but will only release the disc if all the bandmembers agree to do the same.
The Wonderwall star has harboured plans to go it alone for some time, and has now confirmed his intentions to release his own material after he’s finished promoting Oasis’ new album, Dig Out Your Soul.
But he insists he will only go ahead with the project if brother Liam Gallagher, guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell, and drummer Chris Sharrock all choose to pursue their own solo dreams.
He says, "I’d like for us to do separate projects after this record.
"We’d all have to agree on it, so it will probably never happen. I’ve got loads of new songs. Somewhat predictably, they’re all brilliant."

Rocker ROBERT PLANT has not ruled out another reunion with his band LED ZEPPELIN - insisting it’s the bureaucracy involved that puts him off the idea.
The Kashmir hitmakers have been dogged by rumours of a world tour since they reformed for a one-off gig in London last year (Dec07) - their first concert in 19 years.
But singer Plant, who is currently touring with bluegrass star Alison Krauss, has so far refused to agree to hit the road with the legendary group again.
And he insists it’s not the idea of a reunion which he is opposed to - it’s the paperwork that accompanies every live show.
He tells Britain’s GQ magazine, "The endless paperwork was like nothing I’ve experienced before. I’ve kept every one of the emails that were exchanged before the concert and I’m thinking of compiling them for a book, which I feel sure would be hailed as a sort of literary version of Spinal Tap (semi-fictional heavy metal band featured in spoof documentary This Is Spinal Tap).
"Led Zeppelin’s never been about the fans. We’ve always been about four guys coming together to make thrilling, disturbing rock ‘n’ roll. On our own terms."

GREY’S ANATOMY star ELLEN POMPEO has confessed she once disliked medical dramas.
The actress, 38, - who plays Meredith Grey in the popular U.S. TV show - was surprised it became a hit.
She tells Allure magazine, "I never watched one episode of ER. When I did the pilot, I thought, ‘I can’t stand medical shows. This will never get on.’"

Oscar winner HILARY SWANK is recovering at home after a minor procedure to have a small growth removed.
The actress was "experiencing some discomfort and went to see her doctor, who prescribed an immediate course of action which included a brief hospitalisation to remove a small, benign growth," according to her manager, Jason Weinberg.
Weinberg also confirmed Swank’s treatment was a success.
He adds, "Her condition has been resolved and there are no continuing health issues, with the exception of some short-term rest and recuperation."

BRITNEY SPEARS will reportedly return to Britain for the first time in four years to perform on TV talent contest THE X FACTOR.
The Toxic hitmaker was coaxed back to the U.K. by music mogul Simon Cowell who begged her to perform on his show.
It will be Spears’ first visit to the country since her Onyx Hotel tour in 2004.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Everyone is thrilled. To have Britney involved is a massive coup. They expect ratings to go through the roof when her performance airs."

BRITNEY SPEARS’ mother LYNNE blames herself for her superstar daughter’s public meltdown last year (07).
Lynne was forced to stand by and watch as her then estranged daughter’s behaviour became more and more erratic - ending in Spears being hospitalised in a psychiatric ward and losing custody of her two young sons.
And Lynne feels the Toxic star’s troubles were her fault.
She says, "As a mother, don’t we always blame ourselves? I took a lot of the blame. I took all the blame. The personality I have, it’s always my fault." And the pop star’s mum insists it was their small town naivety that led Britney into the dangers of showbusiness, because the family didn’t know what to expect when she first shot to fame.
Lynne adds, "There’s the honeymoon phase at first. Everything is fabulous.
Look at the wonderful trips she gets to go on. Look at the wonderful people she’s meeting.
"Then there’s the ugly side of things that turns, and we weren’t ready for that, either."

DAME HELEN MIRREN is set to return to the stage for the first time in six years.
The Oscar winner will star in a three-month run of Jean Racine’s 17th-century drama, Phèdre, at London’s National Theatre.
The actress has been in talks with the theatre’s director, Nicholas Hytner, for months after expressing an interest in starring in a theatre production.
Mirren will play the wife of Theseus, King of Athens, in the Greek tragedy.

Koepp fears he has made a mistake in handing the lead role to comedian Gervais.
He says, "The risk isn’t whether people will like Ricky or not, it’s whether we can get enough people who have heard of him to go to the movie.
"In England, I don’t think we’ll have that problem. But in the United States his shows The Office and Extras are only somewhat known. Ricky isn’t an American star - but hopefully that will change after this film."

DENISE RICHARDS has confirmed her reality TV show IT’S COMPLICATED has been re-commissioned for a second series.
The former Bond girl quashed earlier rumours the show is to be cancelled by U.S network E!.
She tells Usmagazine.com, "It’s coming back for another season. We start filming in a few months." Richards also hit back at criticism from her ex-husband Charlie Sheen and his new wife Brooke Mueller for including Sheen’s kids - Sam, four, and Lola, two in her series.
She says, "They weren’t there 24/7, we definitely have set hours. They have been around this since they were born so they were just happy momma was home working." Sam and Lola recently started pre-school.
