CHARLIZE THERON is hoping to get active now protesting won’t get her deported from America.
The South African-born Oscar winner was kicked out of the U.S. when she was 19 after a film about Cuba she produced and financed was considered unpatriotic and damaging to America.
And the incident made her realise she’d have to become a U.S. citizen before she could protest national politics, war or human rights violations on American soil.
Theron, who became an American citizen in 2007, says, "Protesting is different because you can be videotaped and then get arrested and, when you’ve been arrested, it’s harder to get citizenship.
"I produced and financed a documentary, called East of Havana, in Cuba that was considered unpatriotic here in America and I got deported when I was 19, so I didn’t want to push my luck." But now she’s a citizen, the Monster star insists she’ll be a lot more active when it comes to her pet causes: "I’ve always been very open about my politics.
I waited until I got my American citizenship to protest.
"To say something that comes from a place of questioning government and questioning policies is considered unpatriotic, and that kind of means you don’t love the country and you should go back, is something that I don’t believe in. I’ve always been very much about causes and I don’t hide from that.
This is my home now and I’m here to stay."

50 CENT has ended his long rift with rival rapper JADAKISS, and the pair are now planning a collaboration.
The pair has been at war ever since Jadakiss appeared on Murder Inc. rapper Ja Rule’s 2004 track New York, which took a swipe at the Candy Shop star.
The two have since fired off at each other in a succession of songs and videos.
But Jadakiss - real name Jayson Tyrone Phillips - has met with 50 Cent and cleared the air.
He tells Hip Hop Weekly, "We hollered like grown men, kicked it, and hopefully there’s a good outcome off of this."

Singer JESSICA SIMPSON will perform her new album DO YOU KNOW at a rape support charity concert in Las Vegas on Thursday (18Sep08).
The star chose to appear at the Nina’s Night Out event because she knows women who have been raped.
She also claims its her ambition to become a role model for other women - and has pledged to sing from her heart.
Simpson tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "I think this will be a more passionate performance than most. It’s important to make a stand for women’s rights. If I can get up there and be an inspiration to women, I am blessed to have that opportunity.
"The great thing about Nina’s Night Out is it’s a message of prevention. I think it’s important as a woman to lend a hand to other women and just try to encourage people that everything’s going to be OK."

Actress ANNA FARIS has pulled out of producer BRIAN GRAZER’s LINDA LOVELACE biopic INFERNO - because the heavy role is too dramatic for her.
The House Bunny star was lined up to play the infamous porn star in a new movie to be be directed by first-timer Matthew Wilder - but now director and producer are on the hunt for a new leading lady.
Faris tells top film news website Moviehole.net, "I’m going to stick to comedies." Lovelace, real name Linda Boreman, shot to fame after starring in 1972 hardcore porn film Deep Throat, which became a cult underground hit. Ironically Boreman later became a spokeswoman for America’s anti-pornography movement.
The actress died from internal injuries following a car crash in Colorado in 2002.
Rocker/actress Courtney Love was reportedly attached to one Lovelace biopic, called Inside Deep Throat, in 2005, but that production stalled.

GWEN STEFANI has beaten JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE to the top of a new U.S. magazine celebrity designer poll.
The pop stars clashed on the new In Touch Weekly Hottest Celebrity Designers list, but Stefani’s L.A.M.B. fashion line, which is a favourite for stylish stars like Paris Hilton, had the edge.
She beat the William Rast line Timberlake shares with pal Trace Ayala into second place, with Hilton, Victoria Beckham and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs rounding out the top five.

LATEST: Troubled pop star BRITNEY SPEARS will return to court next month (Oct08) to revisit her ongoing illegal driving case.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin in January (08) but a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled in favour of the star’s conservatorship attorneys, who charged she was incapable of issuing a deposition at the time - due to much-publicised health issues.
Judge T.K. Herman issued the renewed trial date on Thursday (18Sep08), calling on the Toxic hitmaker to reappear in court on 15 October (08).
The hearing relates to an incident in August (07), when Spears scraped a parked car in a private parking lot in California’s San Fernando Valley while driving without a valid licence.
The hit-and-run charge, which was caught on camera, was dismissed in court in October (07) after Spears offered a personal apology and $1,000 (GBP541) in compensation to the other vehicle’s owner, Kim Robard-Rifkin.
But the troubled star is still facing a charge of driving without a valid California driving licence - because, at the time of the incident, she was only in possession of a permit from her native Louisiana.
Spears has since obtained her Californian state driving licence.

LATEST: Moviemaker DAVID KOEPP has hit back at reports he regrets casting British funnyman RICKY GERVAIS in a Hollywood comedy, insisting it was a privilege to work with the creator of TV hits THE OFFICE and EXTRAS.
The Ghost Town director and screenwriter allegedly told a British newspaper that hiring Gervais was a "risk," adding "it’s whether we can get enough people who have heard of him to go to the movie".
But Koepp insists there’s no way he regrets working with Gervais, calling the suggestion of such "crazy".
He says, "I don’t know how anyone could have drawn that conclusion from my comments. Ricky Gervais is the single greatest thing about our film, and what I thought I clearly said was that it was our privilege to bring him to a wider American audience.
"The only thing I regret is that I’m not as talented as he is."

JENNIFER LOPEZ has hired a nanny to help her look after twins MAX and EMME, despite insisting she didn’t need assistance.
The singer and her husband Marc Anthony have been coping with the seven month olds without any hired help since they were born, But Lopez has finally conceded defeat and brought in a nanny.
She says, "I did it for a long time but we started using a nanny a few weeks ago." But the 39 year old insists she is still a full-time mum: "(Most days) I get up early with them. Then, when the nanny comes, I can take a shower and give them their breakfast. She’s there to help me get things done. I try to spend every free moment with the babies."

ENTOURAGE star KEVIN CONNOLLY’s directorial debut made him think twice about acting - because the stars of his film were incredible.
Connolly’s short film Whatever We Do features Robert Downey Jr. and Tim Roth and the director was so stunned with his stars’ performances, it made him think seriously about giving up.
He says, "They made me want to quit acting. I’m serious. With Tim and Robert I was rendered speechless by how talented they were. It just came out of them naturally.
"I went home depressed, thinking, ‘Wow, maybe I should just throw in the towel.’"

DAVID BLAINE has been warned his latest stunt could cause him massive internal damage and leave him blind.
Starting on 22 September (08), Blaine will hang upside down for 60 hours over New York’s Central Park - with no safety net.
Even if he doesn’t fall, a leading heart specialist claims the rush of blood to his head could leave him seriously injured.
Speaking at a press conference in New York on Thursday (18Sep08), Massimo Napolitano, chief of vascular surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, tells WENN, "All the organs pretty much are effected by this.
Most importantly the blood rushes to the head. There is danger of brain hemorrhage. There is danger of the blood rushing to the eyes and blinding David." And Richard Ruden, a doctor who has worked on many of Blaine’s stunts, insists the star is the only human who could survive such a stunt: "It is really important for people to understand that David is not an ordinary man. It is David’s choice to endure superhuman stress. If he can accomplish this, we might have to change his name to ‘He Who Hangs With Bats.’"

The site of O.J. SIMPSON’s alleged hotel heist is to be recreated in the basement of Clark County Court in Nevada, where the former sports star is on trial for kidnapping and armed robbery.
To save the judge and jury in the case from a trip to the Palace Station hotel in Las Vegas, where Simpson and five associates allegedly burst in on sports memorabilia dealer Bruce Fromong and a business partner and demanded the return of stolen goods while wielding guns, the suite is coming to them.
Skilled crime scene reconstruction workers have built an exact replica of the room in the courthouse’s basement, so that jury members can get a feel of what happened last September (07) shortly before Simpson and his posse were arrested.
Simpson and an associate, Charles Stewart, face life imprisonment if they’re convicted. Both have pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and armed robbery.

GREY’S ANATOMY star ELLEN POMPEO has defended her decision to dress down for her 2007 wedding.
The actress wore a black Yves Saint Laurent dress and boots as she married record producer Christopher Ivery last year (Nov07).
And the star admits she snubbed the traditional white gown and veil because she always wears stunning dresses for work.
She tells Allure magazine, "I get to dress up all the time. I completely understand women wanting a wedding, because most people don’t get to dress up in gorgeous dresses and have their hair and make-up done.
"I, however, am fortunate enough that I get to put on beautiful dresses and make-up and jewels all the time."

Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL has taken to the runway in a bid to raise money for charity in her third Fashion for Relief project.
The British beauty was joined by top model Tyson Beckford, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole and rock daughters Kim Stewart and Elizabeth Jagger on the catwalk for London’s Fashion Week (beg14Sep08).
Funds from this year’s event will benefit the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, which campaigns for safe pregnancy and childbirth in developing nations.
She says, "This is what the fashion world is doing to give back. I won’t ask people to do anything unless I think it’s really important. I only ask when I think it’s something they will be passionate about. All these people here tonight feel the same way… They (the crowd) cheered and stuff. It felt like a show. I was smiling, dancing and everything. I want to go and cry now." And former The O.C. star Mischa Barton was not short on praise for 38-year-old Campbell.
Watching from the front row, she added: "I do lot of work with Save the Children, and today I was doing press with them and they told me this charity is affiliated with theirs. I learned up on it, and Naomi is doing a good thing with it. She has always been very friendly and caring to me. She’s really sweet."

Disney bosses are hoping to cash in on the success of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie series - by taking another theme park attraction to the big screen.
The swashbuckling adventures started life as a ride at Disneyland, California.
And movie executives have headed back to the magical kingdom, this time to create a movie based on Tomorrowland, a futuristic section of the same theme park.
According to Daily Variety, Dwayne Johnson - aka The Rock - is being lined up to star in the space-based movie.

Hip-hop star PHARRELL WILLIAMS and actress EVA LONGORIA are to replace JERRY SEINFELD in a new Microsoft advertising campaign - less than two weeks after the comedian’s ad debuted on U.S. TV.
The Seinfeld actor, who appears in the computer software giant’s latest promos alongside Microsoft founder Bill Gates, was paid an estimated $10 million (£5.4 million) to endorse the brand.
Two spots were filmed - one featuring the pair chatting while out shoe shopping, and another showing the two talking at a blue collar family’s dinner table. They began airing on 4 September (08).
But the ads are to be pulled in favour of a new campaign fronted by Williams, Longoria and author Deepak Chopra.
Rumours have surfaced surrounding the decision, suggesting the Seinfeld ads failed to lure consumers to the brand - but a spokesman for the firm insists that is not the case.
The representative claims the line-up change is "completely in accordance" with the company’s plans and was part of the "second phase" of their campaign.
It is unclear whether Seinfeld will be appearing in Microsoft’s autumn (08) print ads.
It’s not the first time Williams has teamed up with Microsoft - executives have previously called on The Neptunes producer to help launch their Xbox 360 computer game Halo 3 in the U.K.

Filmmaker MELVIN VAN PEEBLES has joined the list of honorees at this year’s Gotham Film Festival.
The Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song director will be saluted at the New York event on 1 December (08) for his work as a writer, director, actor and composer.
