VAN SANT HONOURED AT GOTHAM
Director GUS VAN SANT will be honoured at New York’s forthcoming Gotham Film Festival.
Tribute will be paid to Van Sant, along with Penelope Cruz, at the November/December (08) event, where the filmmaker’s new movie Milk will be premiered.
Milk stars Sean Penn as pioneering gay politician Harvey Milk.
Michelle Byrd, boss of Gotham organisers IFP, tells Daily Variety, "Gus is that rare director who has achieved a steady balance between his independent roots and mainstream filmmaking." The IFP is also launching an initiative to encourage gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual filmmakers, by donating video cameras and scheduling training and mentoring sessions at New York’s Harvey Milk High School - opened in tribute to Milk.
