NEWTON TURNED DOWN ANGELS ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

THANDIE NEWTON turned down a role in CHARLIE’S ANGELS - because she was worried it would make her too famous.
The Crash star was about to start filming alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore on the 2000 action film - but pulled out when she realised it would catapult her to a higher level of fame.
She was replaced by Ally McBeal star Lucy Liu.
Newton says, "In career terms it was a platinum opportunity. Or, as my agent put it, ‘a one-two punch’.
"I was going to do it for about 24 hours. But then I woke up and it just didn’t feel right. It would have meant entering that virtual world of stardom, but I’d been away from home for nine months (filming Mission: Impossible II) and it would have meant another six months away." And although Newton was pleased with the decision, her agent and manager weren’t - and she soon parted company with them.
She adds, "They were appalled. They thought I was committing career suicide."
