MALAWIAN GRANDFATHER URGES MADONNA TO COME BACK FOR ADOPTION
The grandfather of the Malawian girl MADONNA reportedly wanted to adopt has appealed to the pop superstar to return to the country and complete the process.
Earlier this year (08), the Material Girl hitmaker was alleged to be attempting to adopt three-year-old Mercy James from Malawi - the same African country where she adopted her son David Banda in 2006.
But the exchange was reportedly thwarted by the tot’s grandmother, who refused to give up the child.
Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg last month (Aug08) insisted there was no truth to the story, telling Usmagazine.com, "Madonna has not made an attempt to adopt this baby earlier this year or now." However, James’ grandfather Saxon Maunde claims the singer did make enquiries about adopting the little girl - only for his ex-wife Lucy Chekechiwa to turn it down.
But Maunde has urged Madonna to come back - because he’s sure he can convince the tot’s family that adoption is for the best, reports Britain’s Daily Star Sunday newspaper.
He says, "I really wish she could come back with that proposal. If she can come back through me, there will be no problem because I will be able to explain to the family the benefits of adoption to the child.
"Once they understand what adoption means, the child can be adopted without a problem." James’ mother Mwandida died aged 18 just days after giving birth to her daughter.
