MIRREN URGES FANS TO READ FULL STORY OVER DATE RAPE COMMENTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:24 am

LATEST: HELEN MIRREN has urged fans to read the full content of her controversial interview in a British magazine before criticising her recent comments about date rape.
The Queen star has come under fire for suggesting women who have been date raped should not take their attackers to court as it would be difficult to press charges against someone they had planned on being sexually active with.
She said, "I don’t think she (a female rape victim) can have that man into court under those circumstances." The actress admitted in the candid interview with Britain’s GQ magazine that she herself had been the victim of date rapes on several occasions, as well taking cocaine, in her youth.
But now, the 63-year-old has pleaded with the public to read the full interview instead of believing the media’s "sensational" take on her comments.
A statement released by her representative, Stan Rosenfield, says, "Helen Mirren does not dispute the accuracy of statements attributed to her in an upcoming GQ article. She merely asks that people read the article in its entirety before drawing conclusions.
"If they do that, she says, their conclusions will likely be far less sweeping and sensational than those drawn by some in the popular press. She does not wish to qualify any of her remarks. She just wants to avoid having them presented in inflammatory language."
