MARTIN ASPIRES TO BE A GOOD FATHER
Pop star RICKY MARTIN has vowed to be a doting dad to his newborn twins after enduring years of estrangement from his own father.
The 36-year-old singer became the parent of twin baby boys earlier this month (Aug08) after fathering them through a surrogate mother.
And according to biographer Kathleen Tracy - writer of Ricky Martin: Red-Hot and on the Rise! - it was the divorce of the singer’s own parents that left him determined to be a perfect dad.
Martin tells Tracy: "(My dad) wanted me to choose between him and my mother.
How do you ask a child that?" A source tells the National Enquirer of his hopes for the future: "Ricky sees this as an opportunity to make things right in his life. He wants to be the kind of father for his boys that his own dad never was to him." And Martin has taken the first step to supporting his sons by stepping out of the limelight.
A statement on his official website reads: "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year (08) out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children."
