MEEK MASTER TAPES ON SALE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:30 pm

The master recordings of legendary music maker JOE MEEK are to be put up for auction - and are expected to fetch $550,000 (£300,000).
The pioneering producer, who worked on early recordings for David Bowie, Tom Jones, Jimmy Page, and Gene Vincent, left behind a huge collection of almost 2,000 original tapes after his suicide in 1967.
Now the unique haul, which has been kept in mint condition by Meek’s pal Cliff Cooper since the producer’s death, is to go on sale as part of the Fame Bureau’s It’s More Than Rock and Roll auction in London on 4 September (08).
Fame Bureau managing director Ted Owen says, "To describe Joe Meek as a rock and roll icon is an understatement - he was one of the most important figures in the industry for nearly two decades and these tapes provide a vicarious passage of the 1950s and ’60s.
"Furthermore, custodian of the Joe Meek archive, Cliff Cooper, has honoured the collection by keeping it intact all these years and cherished for British musical posterity."
