CHINA IMPOSES TIGHTER RESTRICTIONS ON ARTISTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:24 pm

China has imposed a ban on musicians who have "threatened national sovereignty" from performing in the country following an outburst by Icelandic star BJORK.
The singer was chastised by the communist country’s culture ministry after she yelled "Tibet" several times during her song Declare Independence at a concert in Shanghai in March (08).
The Chinese government, which has ruled Tibet since 1951, then announced they were to "further tighten controls on foreign artists performing in China in order to prevent similar cases from happening in the future".
On Thursday (17Jul08), the Chinese government sent out a warning to entertainers from overseas, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Culture says, "Any artistic group or individual who have ever engaged in activities which threaten our national sovereignty will not be allowed in." Entertainers who "threaten national unity", "whip up ethnic hatred", "violate religious policy or cultural norms" or "advocate obscenity or feudalism and superstition" during performances will also be banned.
