Actor KEVIN COSTNER stunned motor racing fans in Florida at the weekend (5Jul08), by treating them to a performance with his country rock band.
The Hollywood star took to the stage with Modern West at the NASCAR race in Daytona, to play a 50-minute set of original songs and covers.
And he insisted his performance was kept low-key so that race fans could enjoy the concert without getting starstruck.
He says, "There were double-takes. They (fans) get into the music without knowing." Costner, a huge racing fan, insists he would never be tempted to swap acting for driving - like his Message in a Bottle movie co-star Paul Newman.
He tells People.com, "I ride bareback with buffalo and do my own stunts in movies that maybe some people wouldn’t do at all, but I’ve never had the penchant for speed. In high school… nobody wanted to go with me. I was 20-Mile-An-Hour Costner." Modern West are currently on tour and set to release an album in October (08).

MADONNA had an "affair of the heart" with baseball star ALEX RODRIGUEZ, according to a divorce lawyer hired by the baseball player’s ex-wife.
Following mounting speculation of a marriage split, Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce on Monday (07Jul08), citing abandonment and infidelity.
Madonna isn’t named in the divorce papers, but Cynthia Rodriguez’s lawyer claims her husband had a "relationship" with the married pop superstar.
Attorney Earle Lilly tells People.com, "The correct analysis is a relationship. Some people categorise an affair as something as sexual infidelity. We’re not claming that. It’s an affair of the heart.
"Madonna’s name is not even mentioned in the papers. We don’t want the public to think this is an aggressive action against Madonna." Earlier on Monday, Madonna denied having an affair with Rodriguez - nicknamed A-Rod - stating, "I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage." But friends insist the baseball star’s new interest in Kabbalah - the mystical religion Madonna follows - has led to the Rodriguezes’ marriage crisis.
Madonna, who shares a manager with the New York Yankees star, reportedly introduced the sportsman to Kabbalah.

Czech Republic movie legend ADINA MANDLOVA is to be honoured in her adopted Malta.
A commemorative plaque marking the revered star’s home in Balzan is to be unveiled this week (10Jul08).
The star of the 1930s and 1940s has been picked for the honour to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and the Czech Republic.

British funnyman SIMON PEGG is relieved his hit comedy show SPACED isn’t to be reworked into a U.S. series - because he always hated the idea.
The Run Fat Boy Run star admits he came up with the idea for the cult show during a very important time in his life and the idea of his brainchild becoming a Fox network sitcom, which was to be directed by Charlie’s Angels filmmaker McG, made him uncomfortable.
He says, "I wrote Spaced coming off of a really serious relationship, and I sublimated a lot of my anguish into it.
"So to have some guy from Will & Grace rewrite it doesn’t sit well with me."

Indian film producer GHULAM RASOOL and two associates have been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.
The movie mogul is accused of abducting another filmmaker, Harinaamsingh Ranjeetsingh, in an effort to end a stalemate situation over a movie project both producers began in 2007.
Police reports suggest Ranjeetsingh was abducted from a movie studio on Friday (04Jul08) and taken to Rasool’s home in Mumbai, where he was beaten and forced to sign blank contracts, according to the Times of India.

JACK BLACK has surreal memories of his "hippie" wedding day - the guests of honour were stuffed animals.
The movie star and Tanya Haden eloped to Big Sur, California in March 2006 and the bride insisted on bringing her cuddly toy collection with her.
Black tells Blender magazine, "They had a special package deal where you can get married by a woman named Soaring… The ceremony was pretty hippie, spacey and non-denominational.
"(It was) just us, Soaring, a photographer and Tanya’s stuffed animals. She has a bunch of stuffed animals that she gives voice to.
"All her animals and characters were there - Quacker, Imaginary Bear, Pee, Richard, Harold - and they were the witnesses." And when the newlyweds returned to Los Angeles, they staged a party for family and friends during which Haden put on a puppet show.
Black recalls, "(It was) all about Quacker, the duck, who was a little bit p**sed off because he was best friends with Tanya.
"A slide show that he narrated told the story of how we came together and fell in love, and how he was crushed by loneliness."

THE SOPRANOS star MICHAEL IMPERIOLI is returning to TV to fight crime, in a new American adaptation of a hit British cop show.
The actor, who played Christopher Moltisanti in the long-running mob drama, will play a "rough, sexist" New York detective in Life on Mars, which follows a cop who is transported back to the 1970s after he is hit by a car.
Imperioli will portray lead actor Jason O’Mara’s partner in the series, a role played by Philip Glenister in the British version of the show.

Scottish movie star EWAN McGREGOR desperately needed a shower on his return from his latest cross-continental motorbike adventure - because he only had baby wipes to keep him clean.
Last year (07), the actor and pal Charley Boorman spent weeks trekking from Scotland to Cape Horn in Africa as part of TV series Long Way Down.
And McGregor admits he was too scared to take baths in crocodile-infested waters to keep clean.
He tells Outside magazine, "You lower your standard, but you get by. You always come across rivers (in Africa) but you don’t want to jump into just any one, because there could be crocs.
"We also carried baby wipes. That’s a handy way to keep clean." Ironically, the Trainspotting actor features in the promotional campaigns for new scent Davidoff Adventure."

BRIGITTE NIELSEN is undergoing plastic surgery on a new German reality TV show.
The model/actress will have a facelift, breast surgery and liposuction in the four-part series called Aus Alt Mach Neu (Turning Old Into New).
The first episode aired on Sunday night (6Jul08), and was watched by 2.5 million viewers, who saw fat being sucked out of the 44 year old’s hips.
Nielsen - the former wife of Sylvester Stallone - hopes to auction off the fat for charity, and after her surgery is complete, she plans to pose naked for Playboy magazine, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her 1988 nude spread for the publication.
She says, "Twenty years ago, I did the cover of Playboy… I wanna do Playboy December this year. I’m gonna be 45."

Actress EVA MENDES insists she should be congratulated for seeking help in rehab, because it took guts for her to face her demons.
The 30-year-old actress entered Utah’s Cirque Lodge in January (08) to "proactively" attend "to some personal issues".
Mendes has never disclosed what demons she was battling, preferring instead to let the media speculate and "lie".
She tells the latest issue of Interview magazine, "There are so many lies out there regarding my recent trip to Cirque Lodge. But I don’t care what people think. I just don’t care. So I will neither confirm nor deny (anything)." But she insists the move was brave, and celebrities should be applauded for seeking help.
Mendes adds, "The other day I was reading an article. I don’t even remember who the actress was, but she’s been around for a long time. She said something like, ‘I’m proud that I’ve had a whole career without making it to rehab.’ "I thought, `That’s such a negative twist on it.’ I’m proud of people who have the determination and the fearlessness to actually go and face their demons and get better. This is a life or death situation. Again, I’m not a spokesperson for this, but it’s just that I want to support people for their decisions when they do go in and get help."

The woman who created horror movie icon ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK has revealed she lost her virginity to TOM JONES.
Actress Cassandra Peterson was working in a nude revue in Las Vegas when she fell for the well-endowed It’s Not Unusual singer.
Peterson admits Jones was a rough lover and her first-time sexual encounter with the womanising Welshman left her needing medical care.
She tells the new issue of Blender magazine, "Tom seemed gentlemanly and nice, so when he was jumping on me… I thought, ‘Well, if I’m ever gonna do this, it might as well be with Tom Jones.’ "It was painful and horrible." Peterson tells Blender she needed stitches after the sex session was over, but the worst pain was yet to come.
She adds, "I thought for sure we were gonna run away together and get married. I went backstage to see him the next night, but he was with his two background singers… and was all over them. I was disgusted."

The former Beatle asked fans to celebrate his birthday by taking a moment in their day to pray for peace and love throughout the world.

BEE GEES star ROBIN GIBB is battling the European Commission over plans to standardise royalty payments for musicians.
The commission - the executive arm of the European Union - is currently investigating the collection of royalties, with the intention of establishing a new continent-wide system.
But musicians are concerned that music websites will be able to negotiate lower fees to distribute songs across all of Europe, leaving songwriters and performers worse off.
Speaking on behalf of the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance, Gibb says, "On a fundamental scale it’s a human right that someone who writes a piece of work should have control of it."

Hip-hop couple NAS and KELIS have scrapped plans for a new reality TV show because they’re too boring.
The pair filmed two episodes of the proposed show but hated what they saw.
Nas says, "It was boring. We were too guarded. We weren’t ready." And now the couple insists their days of dabbling with reality TV are over.
Nas adds, "I’m comfortable keeping all the reality in my music."

Rockers PHISH fuelled speculation of a full band reunion after bassist MIKE GORDON joined guitarist TREY ANASTASIO onstage at the Rothbury Festival in Michigan on Sunday (06Jul08).
The festival surprise came just days after Gordon confirmed the group’s longtime producer, Steve Lillywhite, is attempting to bring the quartet back together.
The bass player said, "The band has had a couple of dinners and they’ve just been great. We’re all just excited about the idea of doing something sometime.
I can’t guarantee it, but I’m optimistic." His remarks prompted former bandmate Page McConnell to add, "The prospect of Phish reuniting is something I consider very seriously, and I think about it a lot… Later this year we hope to spend some time together and take a look at what possible futures we might enjoy." And then on Sunday, Anastasio further fuelled the comeback rumours, telling festival fans at Rothbury, "If we could just find a drummer and a keyboard player somewhere…" midway through his set with Gordon.
Anastasio and Gordon performed a host of new songs but wowed fans with a rendition of Phish’s Chalkdust Torture.
It wasn’t the only Phish reunion of the day - Anastasio, who is a guest on Gordon’s new album The Green Arrow, joined his former bandmate for his set later on Sunday. The pair was joined by Phish drummer Jon Fishman.

LATEST: Rapper NATE DOGG has been charged with threatening and stalking his estranged wife.
The Area Codes singer, real name Nathaniel Hale, was pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers after a car chase with his estranged wife in Los Angeles on 23 June (08).
His unnamed spouse had called emergency services after the star allegedly made death threats against her and followed her "dangerously".
Police have charged the rapper with three felony counts of making criminal threats and stalking and one misdemeanour count of driving on a suspended license, reports TMZ.com.

CHRISTIAN BALE is angry at the tragic death of actor HEATH LEDGER - because he’s convinced the pair would be firm friends if he was still alive.
Bale, who stars alongside Ledger in new Batman movie The Dark Knight, had developed a bond with the Brokeback Mountain star during filming.
And he’s sad he never got the chance to explore their friendship further.
Bale says, "He was a fantastic guy, we had a lot of fun on set. Yes, he immersed himself into the film completely, but, at the same time, he was so easy-going.
"Heath was infectious; his death makes me angry because I know our friendship would have blossomed had he not died." Bale also referred to reports Ledger had put too much of himself into his role as the Joker.
He adds, "I keep catching myself talking about him in the present tense, which is very upsetting.
"I was obviously with him at that time, but I can only speak for myself. Yes, sometimes I look back and think, ‘OK, maybe I went a little bit too far, committed a little bit too much of myself’. But I don’t regret doing it." Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in New York last January (08).

PARIS HILTON is hoping to team up with fellow tabloid targets BRITNEY SPEARS and LINDSAY LOHAN for a new reality show about their lives in the spotlight.
The socialite wants to produce the two-hour special, which she hopes will include candid revelations from the stars, reports the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper.
Hilton was reportedly inspired by the success of Denise Richards: It’s Complicated and Living Lohan, which are both produced by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.
