BRITNEY SPEARS will remain under the conservatorship of her father JAMIE until the end of the year (08), a court has ruled.
The pop star was placed in her father’s care in February (08), following her hospitalisation in January (08) for an alleged bipolar disorder.
According to the new court ruling, Spears’ estate and finances will remain under Jamie’s control until 31 December (08).
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz confirmed after Thursday’s (31Jul08) hearing: "Ms. Spears is reluctantly agreeing to extend the temporary (conservatorship)." The Toxic hitmaker has enjoyed a string of personal successes since her father was awarded control over his troubled daughter’s estate - including extended access to her sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline, Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, 17 months.
Federline’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan has also praised Jamie’s involvement in the case, insisting the reunion "couldn’t have happened without" his assistance.
Kaplan added of his positive influence on the singer: "We’re just very positive about it. Having her dad stabilizing everything is a good thing." A status hearing has been set for 28 October (08).

PAMELA ANDERSON is building her own eco-friendly hotel in the Arab city of Abu Dhabi.
The former Baywatch babe fell for the capital of the United Arab Emirates during a recent trip there with the Make a Wish Foundation charity.
And she was persuaded into becoming a hotelier by the royal family there.
She reveals, "I’m building a hotel there. It’s environmentally friendly. I went there with the Make a Wish Foundation and met some great people there, and the royal family was really friendly." And the environmentally-conscious star insists the hotel is kind to the earth: "It’s built with no fossil fuel at all….in Abu Dhabi - where they have all that oil."

New BATMAN movie THE DARK KNIGHT has stormed the U.K. box office in its opening weekend, with takings of $17.2 million (£8.6 million).
The Batman Begins sequel, starring the late Heath Ledger and Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, toppled movie musical Mamma Mia!, which came in second place with ticket sales of $5.6 million (£2.8 million).
Teen film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging made its debut in fourth position, with Tina Fey’s comedy Baby Mama also entering at 10.
The Dark Knight has broken U.S. box office records by becoming the first film to pass the $300 million (£150 million) mark in just 10 days.

LATEST: Socialite PARIS HILTON has hit out at U.S. Republican presidential candidate JOHN McCAIN after he used her image in a political advertisement to attack BARACK OBAMA without her authorisation.
The controversial commercial, which was aired for the first time on Wednesday (30Jul08), accuses Obama of becoming a celebrity. Images of him flash up on screen alongside Hilton and Britney Spears, while a narrator says: "He’s the biggest celebrity in the world, but is he ready to lead?" And Hilton has blasted the McCain camp for using her image without asking for permission.
A spokesperson for the star says, "Miss Hilton was not asked, nor did she give permission for the use of her likeness in the ad and has no further comment." Hilton’s parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, contributed a reported $4,600 (£2,300) to the McCain campaign just this year (08).

Disney star SELENA GOMEZ has dismissed reports she’s dating MILEY CYRUS’ ex NICK JONAS - because she’s too young to date.
Gomez’ relationship with the Jonas Brothers singer sent gossips into a spin last week (21Jul08).
But Gomez says she’s "too busy" and too young to date: "No, (I don’t have) a boyfriend, (I’m) looking. But I’m too busy. But I’m 16, and I like to go on dates and I have crushes and stuff." Campaigning Hollywood star KIM BASINGER is battling to save two tigers from being sold to a zoo in Iraq.
The actress is furious the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has approved the exportation of the animals from a zoo in Mebane, North Carolina to Baghdad Zoo.
Basinger has written to USFWS director H. Dale Hall, begging him to reverse the decision.
The longterm People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaigner writes, "It has already been shown that the animals at the Baghdad Zoo cannot be properly protected from the country’s military conflict. When the war began, hundreds of animals in the zoo were killed, stolen, eaten, or let loose by looters. The last two tigers escaped and were shot dead. The future is uncertain. Most of the people in Iraq still do not have access to basic necessities or a safe environment and Iraq remains a war zone: sending tigers there would place the animals squarely in harm’s way.
"In their natural environment, tigers quietly roam throughout many miles of territory consisting of forests, swamps, grasslands, savannahs, and rocky terrain, hunt, and raise their young. This is the life that they were meant to have-not dodging bullets in a facility that does not have the expertise or resources to properly care for them. "

Teen pop sensation DEMI LOVATO has split up with her boyfriend CODY LINLEY so she can concentrate on touring with THE JONAS BROTHERS.

LATEST: Hollywood star DAME ELIZABETH TAYLOR’s publicist has denied reports the actress is on death’s door - insisting she’s waiting to be discharged from hospital.
The 76-year-old is said to have been admitted to a medical centre on 15 July (08) after being diagnosed with pneumonia, but her condition reportedly worsened in the following days.
Taylor then suffered congestive heart failure on Wednesday (30Jul08) night and was placed on a ventilation machine, according to U.S. tabloid, the National Enquirer.
But the star’s spokesperson insists her health problems have been exaggerated - and that the actress’ hospital stint was a mere precaution.
The rep says, "Ms. Taylor is fine. The rumours which began in England about her health are dramatic, overstated and untrue. Her hospital visit was precautionary. She will be returning home shortly. At present, she is surrounded by family, friends and fabulous jewels." Taylor - who suffers from diabetes and osteoporosis - has been plagued with health problems over the last few years.
She was first diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004 and has endured two hip replacement operations and the removal of a benign brain tumour in 1997.

Life on the road can be a real drag for MILEY CYRUS, especially when she’s touring with her whole family - her brother uses her toothbrush to comb his hair.
The pop sensation insists she’s got a tourbus routine that helps her live as normally as possible when travelling from gig to gig - but it’s far from ideal.
She explains, "My brothers, sisters and I share one bathroom.
"My brother has a ridiculous haircut, and he’d use my brush but leave his hair in it.
"And he used my toothbrush to comb his eyebrows once." But Cyrus always makes sure she gets a little pamper time to herself when she arrives at venues: "I ask for soap and two towels in my dressing room because I shower at the venue.

LATEST: KIDZ IN THE HALL star DJ DOUBLE-O is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery following a bloody fight in an Arizona nightclub last weekend, which saw his bandmate NALEDGE arrested.
Rapper Naledge was taken into police custody in the early hours of Saturday (26Jul08) after a fight broke out in the Cherry Lounge & Pit, where the duo was due to perform.
Initially, details surrounding the incident were scarce, but a police report stated that Naledge had to be physically removed from the venue after failing to comply with cops’ requests to leave the crime scene. He was subsequently charged with obstructing justice.
Reports also alleged that no one was injured in the fight - a claim Kidz In The Hall’s managers have been quick to quash.
The duo’s management team has now released a statement in a bid to clear up rumours about exactly what happened at the club.
They claim DJ Double-O had suffered serious injuries after being assaulted by the club’s bouncers following a heated argument - landing him in a local hospital.
The statement reads: "Double-O was assaulted by several bouncers early Saturday morning, July 26, while inside a nightclub in Tempe, AZ, following a Kidz In The Hall performance.
"Group member and friend Naledge, who did not witness the assault on Double-O, was arrested outside of the club. Naledge’s attempt to get medical assistance for Double-O was misconstrued as a hindrance to the investigation.
"Reports that no injuries were sustained are false, as Double-O was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries from the excessive force used by club security." Naledge was released from Tempe City Jail after posting $500 (£250) bail.

Veteran rocker PHIL COLLINS has scored a number one in New Zealand with his song IN THE AIR TONIGHT - more than 25 years after it was first released.
The former Genesis singer is currently at the top of the New Zealand charts after an advert for Cadbury chocolate, featuring the track, aired on national television on Monday (30Jun08).
The tune has now beat its former 1981 chart position peak of number six.
The commercial, in which a gorilla plays the drums to Collins’ song, launched in the U.K. last year (07) and has reportedly earned the star a cool $1 million (£500,000) in royalties.

R&B singer AKON is set to oversee MICHAEL JACKSON’s comeback album, after hinting he has signed the King Of Pop to his own record label.
Jackson enlisted the talents of the Smack That hitmaker to produce his forthcoming comeback album, and now Akon has suggested the project is to be released under his own imprint, Konvict Music.
He tells MTV.com, "When (Jackson’s) record comes out, read the label." Meanwhile, Jackson has repaid the favour by lending his vocals to Akon’s new track, entitled Hold My Hand, which will be featured on the star’s forthcoming album Acquitted.

Singer JESSICA SIMPSON has furiously denied media speculation her father JOE wields control over her love life, branding the reports "ludicrous".
The pop star’s father - also Jessica and sister Ashlee’s manager - has long been rumoured to be making decisions regarding who his daughters date.
It was even reported in U.S. tabloids earlier this year (May08) that American footballer Tony Romo had ended his relationship with Simpson after growing sick of the former minister interfering with their romance.
But 28-year-old Simpson has hit out at the reports, telling U.S. magazine Elle: "That’s ludicrous. He just wants me to be happy. Our whole family gets beaten, but that just brings us closer. So people are really doing themselves a disservice.

AKON has denied WHITNEY HOUSTON’s new track LIKE I NEVER LEFT is about the singer’s former lovers.
The R&B star teamed up with the pop legend to record the song for Houston’s forthcoming new album.
And the song’s lyrics have sparked rumours Houston is referencing her ex-husband Bobby Brown.
She sings, "Do you think we can pick up where we left off before the day/That I told you it was over, packed my things and moved away?" But Akon is adamant that the track was not written about anyone in particular.
He tells MTV.com, "She’s not singing about nobody. She really ain’t (sic).
Actually we switched some words around so people don’t think she was singing about Bobby.
"This record is more of a record that anyone going through that situation would be able to relate to. It’s just the fact that she got out of a situation is what made it more relevant." Houston married Brown in 1992 and their divorce was finalised last year (07).

Singer INDIA.ARIE’s Broadway debut has been postponed after her forthcoming show lost one of its financial investors.
Arie was set to take the stage next month (Aug08) to star in Whoopi Goldberg’s revival of Nitozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.

LATEST: GIRLS GONE WILD founder JOE FRANCIS has settled a lawsuit with a woman who accused the adult filmmaker of exploiting her while she was underage.
In legal papers submitted to a Panama City, Florida courthouse earlier this year (08), the unnamed female alleged she was filmed by Francis’ crew when she was only 16 years old after producers solicited her into participating in sexually-provocative videos.
According to reports, Francis settled the court case by dropping his countersuit against the woman, who posed for his camera crew in 2002.
But the dropped lawsuit isn’t the last of Francis’ legal troubles - he currently faces federal tax evasion charges in California.
