ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER has faced his toughest TV interview as Governor of California after veteran newsman TOM BROKAW insisted he’d be sacked if he ran a company the way he runs the state.
The Terminator star was taken aback when Brokaw got tough with Schwarzenegger’s leadership qualities during a taped interview for political news show Meet The Press.
Brokaw told the Governor, "If you were the CEO of a public company, the board would probably say, ‘It is time to go.’" The newsman also reminded Schwarzenegger of California’s $15 billion (£7.5 billion) funding deficit, high unemployment and housing crisis.
Schwarzenegger attempted to laugh off the attack, joking, ‘Are you always this positive?" The former movie star went on to defend his record as Governor, stating that opposing party members are closer together than ever and many state issues have been fixed under his leadership.
Schwarzenegger, who was first elected Governor in 2003, told Brokaw, "We have paid off a lot of debt… I am very proud that we paid off a lot of debt and that we got the economy going again." And when it was suggested the action man must be struggling under the weight of constant criticism and the fact that he is not as popular as he was when he first came to office, Schwarzenegger offered, "Not at all. I am having a great time."

LATEST: LINDSAY LOHAN’s father MICHAEL has undergone DNA testing with hopes of proving he is not the father of a secret lovechild.
Michael Lohan has admitted to having an affair with Kristi Kaufmann during a period in 1995 when he and his now ex-wife Dina had separated.
But the born-again Christian has denied Kaufmann’s allegations the result was her 13-year-old daughter Ashley, and he has instructed his lawyers to seek the truth of his former mistress’ claims.
Lohan tells U.S. magazine Star, "I took the DNA test this morning (30Jun08)… It was important for me to know the truth, so I took the test." Lohan expects the results of the paternity tests to reveal his relationship to the teenage girl within two weeks.
He insists he had no idea that his one-time lover had given birth to a child after their romance.
Kaufmann hit him with the bombshell news while he was in prison, serving time for a DUI and other charges in 2005.

LINDSAY LOHAN’s MEAN GIRLS co-star AMANDA SEYFRIED fears her former pal and other child stars go "nuts" because they experience success at such a young age.
The actress, who is about to lead Hollywood’s all-star Mamma Mia! cast onto the big screen, is convinced young Hollywood stars can’t grow-up sane.
And the 22 year old admits Lohan is a perfect example of a young actress struggling to cope in the fame game.
She says, "I’ve met some people who are just so freaking distraught and who don’t know how to handle it, and I’ve met some (kids) who have their head on straight and are really happy. You try to stick around them.
"I kind of don’t expect some of these girls, who’ve been working since they were two, to be sane. This business is just weird when you’re young." But the actress was quick to dispel rumours Lohan was a liability on the set of their hit film.
She adds, "Lindsay was great on Mean Girls. I think that was before she got a little nuts."

Actor DAVID HYDE PIERCE refuses to return to TV - because his role on hit U.S.
sitcom FRASIER has defined his career.
The 49-year-old star enjoyed an 11-year run as Doctor Niles Crane on the Cheers spin-off, winning the actor four Emmy Awards before he turned his talents to the stage.
Pierce has since enjoyed a 16-month-long stint on Broadway in his Tony-award winning role in Curtains.
But, as the curtain falls on that play, he insists we won’t be rushing back to TV, despite receiving a flood of offers.
He says, "In between (plays), I’ll take some time off. I haven’t had a break since Frasier.
"People have approached me about going back to TV. Basically, I said to them, ‘I’m happy to look at scripts, but I don’t want to go back to television.’" And Pierce adds he’s holding no hope for a reunion of the sitcom: "I don’t think a reunion show is a good idea. People understandably have a desire for more of these characters, but the reality won’t meet the dream." Pierce is set to return to the Broadway stage in a revival of 1934 comedy Accent on Youth, which is slated to debut next spring (09).

Actress MOLLY RINGWALD agreed to play the worried mum of an expectant teen in a new TV drama to remind America that unplanned pregnancies are still a huge problem.
The flame-haired star played a teenage mum-to-be in 1988 film For Keeps and, now 40, she’s tackling the subject matter again in The Secret Life of The American Teenager.
She hopes the new project will prompt young girls and their mothers to communicate with each other better - so a few unplanned pregnancies can be avoided.
She explains, "Not all that much has changed. If you look at the movies I did… I played a teen mom. There were drugs in (1985 film) The Breakfast Club.
There’s all that insecurity… All the same issues are still there. It’s all about communication."

Rappers NAS and SOULJA BOY have just signed new sneaker deals.
Nas and sports brand Fila have just entered into a new one-year partnership, while Soulja Boy has signed a multi-year footwear and apparel contract with Yums Shoes.
Fila will back Nas’ upcoming tour in support of his untitled album, as part of his deal. In return, the MC will wear Fila products and co-create an 1980s-inspired clothing line, according to Billboard.com.
He says, "My best friend Will and I loved Fila. It represented prestige and everything that was cool to us. When Will passed, we buried him in a black Fila sweat suit, so doing a deal with them has a lot of significance for me." Meanwhile, Soulja Boy is to release his first shoe later this year (08) - on the back of his new album and cartoon.
He will team up with graffiti artist and designer Tex to create the new sneaker.

WU-TANG CLAN star METHOD MAN has invited U.S. presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA to join him on the streets of Compton in Los Angeles.
The rapper is a big fan of the Democrat but he insists no new president should be allowed to lead the country without visiting the toughest areas of America.
He says, "My people never feel the affects of who changes the world or who’s in office because it never trickles down that low on the scale.
"We don’t feel the President’s power down there (in Compton), we just feel the poverty. Blessings to Obama and the whole Obama click. Hopefully he’ll bring his ass to Compton and walk through the war zone to see what it is.
"Somebody told me, ‘Why would he go there; that’s dangerous.’ That’s why he should go!"

AMERICAN IDOL reject KRISTY LEE COOK has landed a record deal with the company which previously dropped her.
The pretty 24 year old has signed to Arista Nashville and will release her first single, 15 Minutes of Shame, in August (08).
Cook became an Arista artist as a teenager - years before becoming a contestant on American Idol - but was dropped before she recorded a single.

LENNY KRAVITZ has been added to the production team which will oversee new recordings by PATTI LaBELLE’s reunited self-titled girl group.
Kravitz has joined legendary producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff in the studio as LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash record their first new material together in over 30 years.
The Lady Marmalade hitmakers will launch their new album in September (08), and they’ll perform together for the first time since 1977 at the Essence Festival in Louisiana this coming weekend (05Jul08).

Rapper YOUNG JEEZY was left unimpressed after appearing on TV alongside U.S.
Republican presidential hopeful JOHN McCAIN - branding the politician a "fraud".
The 30 year old, real name Jay Jenkins, appeared with McCain on U.S. TV show Saturday Night Live in May (08), and questioned the politician about his policies and how they would help improve America.
But the hip-hop star wasn’t convinced by McCain’s answers, and is choosing to champion Democrat leader Barack Obama instead.
He says, "I told him the ‘hood was f**ked up, and he was like, ‘How you doing?’" "(It was) real talk. They know entertainers, so they shake your hand (and say), ‘I’m your friend.’ But my mama is about to have surgery that I gotta pay for out of my pocket because she can’t get insurance.
"I don’t really feel McCain. It ain’t just because Barack is black; he can make change. Just like Bush equals recession, Barack equals progression. I really feel that."

BATMAN star CHRISTIAN BALE has hit out at calls for tragic actor HEATH LEDGER’S final film appearance to be axed - describing the idea as "bloody insane".
Movie bosses have not yet confirmed whether a scene featuring Ledger’s The Joker character in a body bag will be cut from the new Batman film The Dark Knight.
The scene was shot just weeks before the actor was found dead at his New York apartment in January (08).
Now Batman Bale has stated his case for keeping Ledger’s last scenes intact.
He says, "I know there are a lot of people out there who don’t think this movie should be shown.
"But, if you’re asking my opinion, I think that’s bloody insane. I also think it’s an insult to Heath and everything he stood for.
"I don’t think anything should be cut - I think it’s the movie he wanted to make.
And Bale believes Ledger’s final performance will act as a celebration of his life as an actor - insisting it would be "rude" not to run with the integral scene.
He adds, "The guy was brilliant. He was a fantastic actor and he put everything into this part. I absolutely know without question that he would have wanted everyone to see it.
"For me, this is a celebration of what he did best - entertain people…
Respect the man. This is what he did. This is what he wanted to do."

PARIS HILTON has been banned from getting a tattoo by her rocker boyfriend BENJI MADDEN, because he wants her to remain "pure".
The socialite, reality TV personality, and sex-tape star reveals that Good Charlotte rocker Madden is planning to have an image of her etched on his heavily-tattooed torso.
But Hilton isn’t allowed to return the compliment.
She explains, "He is going to get one of me but he won’t let me get one. He doesn’t like tattoos on women. He thinks I look pure."

AMY WINEHOUSE stunned JAY-Z with her fiery temper at the Glastonbury Festival over the weekend (28Jun08) - after launching a scathing attack on his pal KANYE WEST.
The Brit has hit the headlines for attacking a reveller in the crowd at the English music festival during her spot on Saturday - but headliner Jay-Z was more put out by the singer’s comments about West minutes later.
Jay-Z, who was watching her show from the side of Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage, admits he was a little upset when Winehouse turned on his "brother" during a rant in which she attempted to defend festival organisers for hiring Jay-Z as Glastonbury’s first rap headliner.
She told the audience: "Imagine if it was a c**t like Kanye West! `C**ts like Kanye’ - should be his next album title!" Jay-Z tells MTV.com, "She said something about Kanye late on (in her set) but I didn’t hear it and I don’t agree with it. He’s my brother and the biggest artist on Roc-a-fella (records) right now.
"I guess I should hook them up because he’s a great guy too. I don’t know what the problem is - I don’t know where that (comment) came from."

MTV bosses are considering inviting BRITNEY SPEARS to September’s (08) Video Music Awards (VMAs) - 12 months after her disastrous ‘comeback’ performance at the event.
The pop star disappointed fans and the watching world with a lacklustre rendition of single Gimme More at the bash in Las Vegas last year- just six months after allegedly suffering a meltdown.
She was later spotted crying backstage.
But VMAs organisers want to give Spears the chance to redeem herself by taking to the stage again.
MTV president Van Toffler says, "Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?" The VMAs are moving back to Los Angeles this year, and will take place at Paramount Studios on 7 September (08).

EDDIE MURPHY has hinted the much-anticipated BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 film will be his last, because he wants to get back to stage work.
The funnyman was an acclaimed stand-up comedian before he became a movie star, and now he’s keen to return to comedy clubs and theatres.
He says, "Thirty years and I have close to 50 movies and it is like, `Why am I in the movies? I’ve done that part now.’ "I’ll go back to the stage and do stand-up." But he’s still keen to get a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film made - after years of looking at bad scripts for the project: "The third one was horrible, so I didn’t want to do another one." And he insists he isn’t making the new film in the franchise for the money.
He adds, "The (third) movie wasn’t ready to be done and they (producers) wrote some s**t down on paper and I said, `Is this your phone number?’ and they said, `This is how much we’re going to pay you.’ "I said, `Let’s go shoot it! I don’t care if the script ain’t right.’"

Actor WILL SMITH has credited an unlikely woman as the source of his superstardom - his cheating ex-girlfriend.
The 39-year-old former rapper has made a name in Hollywood for himself with lead roles in high-grossing action and sci-fi hits including Men In Black and Independence Day.
And Smith admits it was the unfaithful act of a former lover during his youth that drove him to excel in acting.
He says, "My first girlfriend cheated on me when I was 15 years old, and I processed in my mind that she cheated on me because I was not good enough. And I remember my walk home after I found out, and I remember just vowing to myself that I would never not be good enough again.
"In my childlike mind I connect that to (wife) Jada’s love for me, even though she tells me, ‘Baby, OK, you’re good enough, let’s take a vacation.’"

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN star TERI GARR owes her daughter her life after the teenager acted fast upon finding her mother unconscious.
The actress had suffered a brain aneurysm 18 months ago (Dec06), and thanks to daughter Molly’s quick thinking, medics were able to treat her just time.
The Tootsie star, 63, recalls, "She called 911. They rushed me to the hospital. They drilled a hold in my head and wrapped a coil around my brain so it wouldn’t bleed anymore." Garr, who also suffers from multiple sclerosis, spent a week in a coma and then two months learning to walk and speak again.
She credits her love of swimming for her recovery.
She adds, "I think that’s the answer to keep everything moving."

LATEST: U.S. talk show host LARRY KING has slammed reports his actress wife SHAWN is battling anorexia.
Shawn Southwick King, 48 - who has been married to the 74-year-old TV veteran for 10 years - was admitted to rehab on Tuesday (24Jun08) suffering from an addiction to painkillers.
Allegations King suffers from an eating disorder have persisted since photos of her withering frame sparked concerns just prior to undergoing treatment at an undisclosed clinic.
But a source tells the New York Daily News, "She’s emaciated… She always keeps a smile plastered on her face - but she is really unhappy." But a spokesperson for Larry King has denied reports she suffers from depression or anxiety, adding: "She is not anorexic. Nor has she been diagnosed as depressed. She has taken medications because of her migraine headaches that she’s had since she was a young girl.
"She developed a dependency on painkillers as a result of being prescribed medication for the migraines." The TV actress is King’s sixth wife and they have two children together Chace, nine, and Cannon, eight.
