Alive again
A US woman presumed dead when her heart stopped came back to life 17 hours later.
Velma Thomas, 59, from West Virginia was hospitalised after a heart attack. She was later presumed dead after her heart stopped and all revival attempts failed.
Relatives of Velma gathered at her side and prayed before finally accepting her passing and turning off the life support. Tim Thomas, Velma’s son, said: “Her skin had already started hardening, her hands and toes were curling up, they were already drawn. There was no life there." Later, after he returned home, Mr Thomas was called by the hospital to say his mother had re-awoken – despite no brain activity being registered for 17 hours. When he reached hospital she had awoken and was asking where he was.
