KELLY ROWLAND’s rendition of the American National Anthem left 80,000 soccer fans in agony on Wednesday (28May08) night, after a technical glitch turned her singing into a high-pitched garbled mess.
The former Destiny’s Child star was flown to London at the last minute to kick off a friendly match between the USA and England at the British capital’s Wembley Stadium.
But the sound system at the new venue failed as soon as she started singing, and left the famous Stars and Stripes anthem virtually unrecognisable.
A matchgoer tells WENN, "She looked like she was really struggling to stay in tune. The PA system seemed to drop out at times and the high notes were really terrible.
"People were covering their ears."

A Dunkin Donuts commercial featuring beloved U.S. TV chef RACHAEL RAY has been ditched after critics accused her of dressing like a terrorist in the ad.
Ray, who was announced as the company’s new spokeswoman last year (Mar07), appears in the commercial wearing a black-and-white scarf, alleged to be symbolic of a keffiyeh - a traditional headdress worn by Arab men.
Fox news columnist Michelle Malkin explains the garment "…has come to symbolise murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularised by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos.
"The apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-soignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons." Dunkin’ Donuts bosses first dismissed complaints, claiming Ray’s black-and-white wrap was merely misinterpreted, but an ensuing firestorm forced them to quickly pull the ad from rotation.
A statement from company executives reads, "In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot.
"Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial."

A designer who was forced to quit U.S. reality TV hit PROJECT RUNWAY to attend to his HIV-positive health problems has received a huge career boost - actress HEATHER TOM has asked him to create the gown she’ll wear to the Daytime Emmy Awards.
Jack Mackenroth touched the hearts of Project Runway viewers when he had to tearfully step down as a contestant on the fourth season of the fashion show for medical reasons.
But what he did on the programme was enough to impress the Bold & The Beautiful’s Tom, who asked Mackenroth to create a couture gown for her to wear to the 35th Emmys on 20 June (08).
Tom, who is nominated for a Best Actress prize, will then auction off the dress Mackenroth, who has been HIV positive for 17 years, has designed for her to Benefit AIDS charities and to promote National HIV Testing Day.
A spokesman for Tom says, "Heather wanted to do something special to celebrate her 12th nomination and met with Mackenroth to have him design a one-of-a-kind gown for her Emmy moment.
"The pair also decided to help their many friends with HIV, and auction the dress off to benefit three HIV/AIDS charities - amfAR, National Association of People with AIDS, and San Antonio AIDS Foundation." Tom says, "We both wanted to make this more than just an evening gown - we wanted to make a statement." People will be able to go to the ClothesOfOurBack.org website to bid for Mackenroth’s gown immediately after the Emmys.

LATEST: Comedian EDDIE GRIFFIN is firing back at claims he racially abused and assaulted a TV show crew member - insisting the accusation is "absurd".
Vince Beane has filed a lawsuit against Griffin, alleging the star attacked him while he was working as a production manager on a pilot show Griffin was shooting.
Legal papers claim the star flipped out when Beane booked a cheap hotel for him and his mother and accused him of treating his mother "like a slave n**ga" before beating him up.
Griffin’s representative has released a statement refuting the claims: "We cannot comment on the details of ongoing litigation,except to say that this claim is completely absurd and that it will be shown in time to be without merit."

KIM KARDASHIAN has taken aim at a lookalike who is earning money by making nightclub appearances impersonating the socialite and reality TV star.
The buxom beauty was furious when she discovered an imposter was paid to pretend to be her at a Houston, Texas hotspot - and she’s taking a stand using her blog.
She writes, "I am angry and disappointed to hear that people are going around a Houston, Texas, nightclub pretending to be me and pretending to work with me, lying and conning my friends and fans.
"A man in Houston has been selling tickets and promoting me and my image without my permission - and you know who you are - and taking a look-a-like to clubs pretending to be me, but hiding behind dark sunglasses and curtains refusing to meet or speak to anyone.
"The truth is, I was not in Houston this week and have no plans to come to Texas until the end of June.

MENA SUVARI and STEPHEN REA are retelling the gruesome real-life story of a woman who left a homeless man stuck in the windshield of her car after a hit and run accident in a new movie.
In Stuck, Rea plays a character based on Gregory Biggs, who was left to die a painful death in the garage of Texas woman Chante Jawan Mallard, while helplessly lodged in her car’s windscreen.
Mallard, who was believed to have been driving while intoxicated by drugs and alcohol at the time of the 2001 incident, was later convicted and sentenced to 50 years’ imprisonment for her role in Biggs’ death.
The gruesome death, which was also a storyline for a CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode, is now being played out by Rea andSuvari, and the actress admits the role was among her most difficult.
She says, "It was awkward in a lot of ways. Stephen was tired of being stuck in a windshield and it was intense because it wasn’t cozy. We were filming in New Brunswick, and it was freezing.
"Also the real man, he passed away. His name was Gregory Biggs, he was 37 years old. I didn’t want to be seen to be having too much of a grand old time because I didn’t want to disrespect anyone. It was a tough shoot."

AMERICAN IDOL winner DAVID COOK will break pop chart records in the U.S. on Thursday (29May08) when 11 of his songs debut on the Billboard Hot 100.
But Cook will miss out on a number one - the original song he sang in the Idol finale, The Time of My Life, is estimated to enter the new countdown at three on the main chart, but will top Hot Digital Songs tally, where 14 of his tunes will debut.
Cook’s takeover of the Hot 100 shatters the mark set by Miley Cyrus in November, 2006, when she debuted six songs on the chart.
His feat is the greatest chart haul since data company Nielsen started tracking the chart in 1991.
The Beatles still own the record for the most songs on the chart in any one week - they scored 14 hits on the Hot 100 in April, 1964.
But no artist has scored 11 debuts on the chart in the same week.

A man accused of stalking DEBORAH GIBSON has avoided a restraining order after the 80s pop star skipped a court hearing on Wednesday (28May08).
Gibson filed for a restraining order against Spaniard Bassas Jorge Puigdollers, 44, last month (Apr08), claiming he had gone to every gig she has performed since 2002; tried to get backstage at shows and followed her to her hotels.
The last straw came when Puigdollers showed up at the singer’s Los Angeles home on 13 April (08) and refused to leave Gibson’s doorstep.
She asked for a rule forcing Puigdollers to remain at least 100 yards away from her, and banning him from contacting her and attending her gigs.
But the case has been dismissed after neither party attended the U.S.
Superior Court hearing on Wednesday (28May08).
After the complaint was first filed, Puigdollers said, "I wanted to use the fan club to help people who can’t go see her to get autographs and photos.
"I understand that she wants her privacy. I would like to say I’m sorry. I don’t want problems and I don’t want to bother her so much."

Country star CHRIS CAGLE has been arrested for domestic assault in Nashville, Tennessee.
Police claim they were called to a disturbance after Cagle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, got into a drunken fight on Wednesday morning (28May08).
Both have been jailed on misdemeanor domestic assault charges.
Under Davidson County Sheriff’s Department rules, both Cagle and his girlfriend will spend a mandatory 12 hours behind bars before they can post bail.
The arrest is yet another legal headache for Cagle, he’s also due to stand trial on a misdemeanour assault charge in connection with a pre-Christmas (07) bar fight in Tucson, Arizona.
The singer is accused of punching Tucson native Mark Barry after Barry’s girlfriend became verbally abusive when the country star refused to sign an autograph for her.
At a hearing last month (Apr08), Cagle’s attorney insisted his client acted in self-defence.
Barry has filed a civil suit against Cagle and his sound engineer, Kenneth Hoyt.

Troubled R&B star R. KELLY’s child pornography trial has taken a strange twist thanks to a phone call.
One of the singer’s lawyers prompted Judge Vincent Gaughan to adjourn the case on Wednesday (28May08) after coming forward with a new witness he claimed could potentially impeach someone else’s testimony.
The attorney, Sam Adam, told Judge Gaughan that the new witness was flying to Chicago, Illinois and the defence team needed time to depose the man, who had phoned in vital information.
Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of child pornography for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He maintaiins the man on the tape is not him, and the alleged victim, now 23, has denied she is the girl in the footage.
Previous to the decision to adjourn the trial, the court heard from a high school basketball coach, who once trained the alleged girl on the sex tape.
The coach, Jacques Conway, identified his former player by the distinctive cross worn by the female participant on the graphic video.

A member of rapper 50 CENT’s entourage has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman.
According to reports, police received a phone call in the early hours of Tuesday (27May08) morning from the In Da Club star’s Connecticut mansion from the alleged victim, claiming she had been attacked by Dwayne McKenzie.
Police proceeded to arrest McKenzie at the Farmington estate after concluding the woman sustained visible injuries consistent with her complaint.
McKenzie has been charged with strangulation, assault, breach of peace and unlawful restraint.
He has since been released on $10,000 (£5,000) bail, reports website TMZ.com.
A spokesperson for 50 Cent has declined to comment on the arrest.

LATEST: The woman who crashed into SANDRA BULLOCK’s car last month (Apr08) has pleaded guilty to drink driving.
Bullock and husband Jesse James were struck by another vehicle on 18 April (08) while driving in Massachusetts, where the actress is currently shooting a new movie.
Lucille Gatchell, 64, entered a standard not guilty plea at the time of her arraignment on 22 April - but she changed her plea to guilty at a hearing in a court in the state on Tuesday (27May08).
Gatchell has been placed on probation for a year and ordered to complete an alcohol safety education program. Her driving licence has also been suspended and she has been ordered to pay all associated fines and fees.
According to People.com, Gatchell’s lawyers share her "gratitude to Ms.
Bullock and Mr. James for what she understands was their concern for her well being after the accident".
No one was injured in the incident.

Actress ALLY SHEEDY is divorcing DAVID LANSBURY, her husband of 15 years.

PATRICK SWAYZE is baffled by claims he is taking time out from cancer treatment to star in a sequel to 1991 surfing movie POINT BREAK.
W. Peter Iliff, who wrote the screenplay for the original movie, has penned a follow-up, and insists Swayze will reprise his role as bank-robbing surfer Bodhi and co-star Keanu Reeves is onboard to play F.B.I. agent Johnny Utah.
He tells Us Weekly magazine, "We always wanted Patrick to return. He’ll definitely be surfing." Swayze was diagnosed with deadly pancreatic cancer last month (Apr08), but Iliff adds of the actor’s health: "Things are going well, he’s fighting the good fight." On Wednesday (28May08) Swayze issued a statement revealing he is responding well to cancer treatment - but his representative insists he will not be taking part in a Point Break sequel.
