Diabetes has robbed beloved TV star MARY TYLER MOORE of her love of horseriding.
The actress was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in her thirties and admits the disease is "pernicious" and just keeps "eating away" at her 40 years later.
Moore, the longtime international chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, says, "I’ve lost a good deal of my vision, I’ve lost a sense of my balance. That’s why I can’t ride horses anymore… I don’t drive because of the vision… I’m not allowed to.
"There are a lot of things - arthritis hits at an earlier age; anything that can go wrong goes wrong in a bigger, earlier way." The actress and star of beloved 1970s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show will chronicle her battle with diabetes in her upcoming memoir, Growing Up Again.
