Actor COLIN FARRELL has sparked fears for his health after he appeared at a press conference looking alarmingly gaunt - but he insists he’s merely shedding weight for a film role.
Farrell, 31, shocked reporters when he showed up to promote his upcoming movie Triage - in which he plays a war reporter in 1990s Bosnia - during a trip to Spain.
He tells People.com, "I lost weight because my role demanded it. It was all very healthy." The Irish actor did not elaborate as to how he lost the weight, instead quoting a line from the Scott Anderson novel on which the movie is based: "He went to the bathroom to shave. Once his beard was gone, he saw that his face had become drawn. He pressed at the hollows beneath his eyes, the pronounced nubs of his cheek bones." But this is not the first time Farrell’s appearance has prompted speculation of ill-health. The actor was released from a rehab facility in January 2006 after a spokesperson for the actor confirmed his voluntarily admittance to the programme in December 2005 to seek treatment for his use of recreational drugs and painkillers.

Sports star TONY ROMO allegedly called off his romance with JESSICA SIMPSON after growing tired of her meddling father, according to a new report.
A friend who attended Eastern Illinois college with Romo, claims the American football quarterback and the pop star ‘’are definitely over" - despite Simpson’s representatives insisting the duo are still an item.
And the source - who was reportedly with Romo while he partied with a bevy of beauties at a Chicago, Illinois bar at the weekend (10May08) - claims her overbearing father, Joe Simpson, was one of the major factors in their split.
The unnamed pal tells the Chicago Sun-Times that Joe Simpson had been ‘’not only telling Jessica every move to make, but now has begun to offer unsolicited advice to Tony on his career, endorsement opportunities and things that have nothing to do with him dating Jessica.'’

JANET JACKSON has heaped praise on the designer of her infamous nipple-baring Super Bowl costume, branding him a great "love" in her life.
The singer was forced to issue an apology for the 2004 "wardrobe malfunction", which happened when Justin Timberlake tore off part of her corset during a half-time duet, exposing her breast to millions of unsuspecting viewers of the American football event.

Actor SHIA LaBEOUF was so awestruck by HARRISON FORD’s stamina on the set of INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, he named the star The Cowboy.
LaBeouf and Ford appear together in the fourth installment of the action series, which is directed by Steven Spielberg.
But the 21-year-old Transformers star was blown away by Ford’s tireless efforts, and the 65-year-old’s insistence to perform the majority of stunts himself earned him the nickname.
LaBeouf says, "Harrison would be beat to s**t every day. He did 90 per cent of the stunts. I’d watch him take the hits. Over and over. And he never asks for the medic. Or a breather. Or a break. He just kept working. We nicknamed him The Cowboy." And LaBeouf admits starring alongside the veteran actor was a dream come true - although he would never admit that to Ford’s face.
He adds, "Working with Harrison was really special to me. I didn’t tell him that, of course. He’s not the type of guy you go up to and say, ‘You’re special to me.’ He’s the kind of guy you give a handshake to and stay quiet. A man’s man. And not bulls**t machismo, either. He’s honest butch."

PRISON BREAK star WENTWORTH MILLER knows when he is in love with a woman because he will offer to cook for her.
The hunky actor, 35, admits he is a disaster in the kitchen, but he is willing to exercise his culinary skills - for the right woman.
He says, "Preparing a meal, because I don’t cook. I’m afraid of the kitchen; when the stove’s on it makes me nervous.
"If I actually leap over that hurdle and cook something simple, like spaghetti Bolognese, that would really show someone I’m into them."

LATEST: LINDSAY LOHAN’s performance on the set of U.S. TV show UGLY BETTY has impressed the series’ star AMERICA FERRERA.
Lohan is set to appear on the show’s season finale next week (22May08) to play Kimberley, the high school nemesis of Ferrera’s title character Betty.
The 21-year-old actress signed up for six episodes of the hit programme in a bid to reignite her struggling Hollywood career.
And Ferrera, 24, is keen to join the chorus of Ugly Betty bosses who claim Lohan’s reputation as a troublesome and tardy star is unfounded.
Ferrera coos, "(Lohan) was really wonderful and was gracious and showed up and was on time.
"I don’t mean to be smart or snide. She was really great, she was lovely.
She’s going to be back for five more episodes in the third season here in New York."

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star TERI HATCHER had a lucky escape when she came face to face with a mountain lion which has been terrifying residents in the Hollywood Hills in recent weeks.
The actress was out jogging early one morning last week (ends09May08) in the hills by her Los Angeles home, when she was aware something or somebody was behind her.
She says, "Some leaves just blew something and I turned and looked… and it was a mountain lion.
"I kept jogging and this path, you go down and you have to turn round and come back… so I’m thinking, `Well now the mountain lion is up and angry,’ and I’m completely by myself up there.
"So I get to the end (of the path) and it backs up into these kind of mansions with these huge walls, and I’m literally standing there going, `Hello… can anyone hear me over there.’" But no one heard Hatcher’s cries for help and she had to scale a steep hill to get onto Laurel Canyon.
Then, when she eventually got back home, she turned on the news and discovered the authorities are on the hunt for the killer beast.
She adds, "Apparently he’s still out because I just heard about him on the news."

THE STREETS star MIKE SKINNER is intending to make the video for his next single one to remember - he is walking from Britain to France for the promo.
The British rapper wants a new direction for the video to promote the band’s upcoming single The Escapist, and insists the epic trek will get people interested in the song.
And the star has seemingly found inspiration for the promo from another globe-trotting Brit - Monty Python star Michael Palin.

Actress CYNTHIA NIXON has laughed off reports she is to wed her partner CHRISTINE MARINONI, insisting she would only consider marriage if it was legal in her native New York.
The Sex and the City star, 42, was alleged to be planning a low-key ceremony to make her romance with Marinoni official later this year (08).
But Nixon, who has been dating the education activist for four years, is adamant there will be no wedding - as long as gay marriage is outlawed in the Big Apple.
She tells British chat show host Graham Norton, "It’s untrue. ‘Cause we can’t get married. (But) we could get married for pretend! "We live in New York; New York has no same sex marriage. I think one day soon, hopefully, it may (be legal), and then I think we’ll consider it."

STEVEN SPIELBERG dismissed pleas to revive INDIANA JONES for a fourth movie because he was convinced his ending to the RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK trilogy was perfect.
The legendary moviemaker returned to the set of the Harrison Ford action film for its latest installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, to shoot the summer (08) film - 19 years after 1989’s The Last Crusade.
Spielberg, 61, admitted it was a struggle to resign to the idea of bringing Indy back to life, but soon changed his mind once the right script was discovered.
He says, "Resistance - in the sense that I made a deal with George in 1977 on the beach in Hawaii to make three of these things if the first one was successful. And to prove to George (Lucas) that I had fulfilled my moral contract, I designed a shot where Harrison (Ford) rode off into the sunset and that’s a classic western side off and I thought that was the end." Paramount bosses have spent a reported $150 million (£75 million) marketing the film - set to premiere at France’s Cannes Film Festival on Sunday (18May08) ahead of its worldwide 22 May (08) release date. It will be the first of Spielberg’s films to debut at the festival since his 1982 Oscar-winning film E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial.

Hip-hop pioneer GRANDMASTER FLASH is set to become the latest star to release a memoir.
The legendary DJ - real name Joseph Saddler - has teamed up with author David Ritz to write The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, My Beats, which will chronicle his rise to fame with hip-hop group the Furious Five as well as his battle with cocaine addiction.
The book is scheduled to hit shelves in the U.S. on 10 June (08) under Broadway Books imprint Harlem Moon Books, according to AllHiphop.com.
Author Ritz will also help pen rocker Scott Weiland’s upcoming biography.

FOO FIGHTERS star TAYLOR HAWKINS is set to take the place of late THE BEACH BOYS drummer DENNIS WILSON on an upcoming commemorative single.
Hawkins will provide vocals for Holy Man, which will feature on an updated version of Wilson’s 1977 acclaimed solo album Pacific Ocean Blue, which will be released in the U.S. on 9 June (08).
The single is slated for release on the same day as the reissued double-CD LP, which will act as a tribute to the star, who died in 1983 after drowning at Los Angeles’ Marina Del Rey.
And Gregg Jokobson, who co-wrote and co-produced the original album, insists the Foo Fighters drummer was an obvious choice to replace Wilson, because of his similar sounding vocal talents.
He says, "I always said, ‘Taylor, you sound just like Dennis.’ Taylor is just a natural. He came in, he did the vocal within an hour and I really think he knocked it out of the park."

American singer MACY GRAY cut her gig short at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (14May08) - because she was reportedly too drunk to perform.
The I Try star’s show at the Nikki Club in the south of France was due to start at 11pm (CET) on Tuesday (13May08), but fans had to wait until 2am for her to stumble onto the stage.
The celebrity guests had reportedly all left the venue before the short-lived show kicked off.
And patient onlookers were only rewarded with three songs before she staggered off, according to fans.
One reveller, Emilie Malieu, tells WENN, "All the celebrities had left by the time she took the stage. And she (Gray) was in such a state, she only hardly managed to sing three songs. It was a real disappointment."

ANGELINA JOLIE was thrilled to get the chance to play a tigress in new animated movie KUNG FU PANDA - because the big cats hold a special significance in her family.

"It was a restaurant in Chicago and you were with your staff and you were handing out little gifts to them - and you got a vegetable pizza… You were, of course, wonderfully nice.

MADONNA has been denied the chance to see five of her LPs in the U.K. album chart at the same time, after the country’s Official Chart Company (OCC) deemed details surrounding their sales unfair.
The Material Girl star was set to score a chart quintuple last week (ends10May08) after British supermarket giant Tesco offered consumers a free copy of one of four previous Madonna albums when they purchased her latest release Hard Candy.
The offer allowed fans to buy the LP for $18 (£9), and claim a copy of either The Immaculate Collection, Ray Of Light, Music or Confessions On A Dancefloor for free.
And the promotion gave the star’s earlier albums a significant boost in the British mid-week charts; The Immaculate Collection shot to number 28, Confessions On A Dancefloor sat at 48, Music at 95, and Ray Of Light at 110.
But the U.K. chart’s governing body, the OCC, have excluded the albums from being counted in last week’s rundown, insisting the offer didn’t comply with its stance on chart rules.
The move meant only Hard Candy’s sales were counted, which gave the singer her 10th number one album in the U.K. and U.S. charts earlier this month (May08).
OCC managing director Martin Talbot explains the decision: "It is quite a core chart rule that we only count sales, and the marketing of this particular initiative is clear - if you buy Hard Candy through Tesco you can have one of these albums free of charge." He adds, "We will be monitoring these kinds of offers to assess whether current rules cover what is becoming an increasingly common occurrence. We need to ensure it doesn’t undermine the authority of the charts, which are there to measure sales."
