Director Christopher Nolan was keen to cast Gyllenhaal as assistant district attorney Rachel Dawes in sequel The Dark Knight - but took the precaution to make sure she didn’t lose the screenplay.
Gyllenhaal, who had only recently given birth to 18-month-old daughter Ramona at the time, says, "Chris asked me if I wanted to read the script, which was a big deal. And someone had to come and wait in my driveway, while I read this huge script.
"I was mommying, so it took me 20 full hours to get through it, and this guy was sitting in my driveway."

Comedian JIMMY FALLON will replace comedian CONAN O’BRIEN as the new host of U.S. TV talk show LATE NIGHT, network NBC confirmed on Monday (12May08).
Former Saturday Night Live star Fallon is set to make his debut next June (09) when O’Brien moves to an earlier time slot on NBC’s schedules to replace The Tonight Show host Jay Leno.
Ben Silverman, co-chair of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, says of the new line-up, "Jimmy (Fallon) is more than just a likeable guy and a great comedian, he is genuinely interested in what people have to say."

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN filmmaker GORE VERBINSKI is set to direct the silver screen adaptation of the hit video game BIOSHOCK, according to reports.
Universal Studios has signed a deal with the game’s publisher, Take-Two Interactive - believed to be the biggest video game-to-cinema contract since Fox and Universal’s 2005 negotiations with Microsoft for the now-aborted Halo movie, reports Variety.
BioShock, set in a nearly-deserted underwater city, has sold more than 2 million units worldwide.

LATEST: Actress ANNE HATHAWAY’s boyfriend RAFFAELLO FOLLIERI will not be prosecuted for allegedly writing a bad cheque, after charges were dropped by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Italian businessman Follieri was expected to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday (12May08) following his arrest last month (Apr08) for allegedly writing a cheque for $215,000 (GBP107,500) to New Jersey businessman John Morrongiello.
Follieri initially claimed the charges were a result of a misunderstanding, but according to Manhattan D.A. spokesperson Tracy Golden, the sum was reimbursed by 29-year-old Follieri and Morrongiello has decided against pursuing the case.
This is not the first financial scandal for Follieri, who moved to the U.S.
just four years ago.
He agreed to pay $1.3 million (GBP650,000) to settle a lawsuit with billionaire Ron Burkle last month (25Apr08), after former investment partner Burkle accused him of squandering the sum to support himself.

Scottish singer LULU is backing newly reformed boyband TAKE THAT to record the theme song to the new JAMES BOND film.
Troubled singer Amy Winehouse was said to be collaborating with acclaimed DJ Mark Ronson on the title track for the upcoming Quantum Of Solace, but the project now hangs in question after the super producer told the media, "I’m not sure Amy is ready to work on music yet." But pop singer Lulu, 59 - who recorded the theme to The Man With The Golden Gun in 1974 - is convinced the British fourpiece could handle the challenge of writing an iconic track for the superspy franchise.
She tells Heart Radio, "I think that’s a brilliant idea! They make good records and if Gary (Barlow)’s going to write it, it’ll be terrific. It has come up when we’ve talked about it seriously before."

British rockers THE KOOKS were left devastated after their unlikely musical hero KYLIE MINOGUE refused to allow them entry to her latest tour’s after-party.
The Naive hitmakers were in Paris shooting the promo for upcoming single Do You Wanna at the same time the Australian pop star kicked off her X2008 tour in the French capital last week (ends09May08).
And being huge fans of the Can’t Get Your Out Of My Head hitmaker, the group desperately pleaded for invitations to the exclusive event, but were left disappointed after the superstar snubbed them.
The band’s frontman Luke Pritchard explains, "We heard she was having a party so asked if we could come. We were gutted (when refused). I like her and her songs." But the knock-back won’t stop the rockers trying to party with the diminutive singer in the future. Pritchard adds, "I won’t give up. We’ll try again next time we’re in the same city."

Late BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON’s widow OLIVIA has created a floral tribute for the legendary musician - by designing a garden in his honour for an English flower show.
The garden will feature as part of England’s Chelsea Flower Show, and is entitled Life To Life after a line in the Beatle’s hit It’s All Too Much.
The tribute will depict Harrison’s humble beginnings growing up in Liverpool, England to his post-Beatle life of luxury - all through the medium of plants and flowers.
The garden - which is sponsored by Harrison’s own Material World Charitable Foundation - is a fitting tribute for the musician who often frequented the Chelsea Flower Show before he died from lung cancer in 2001.
Olivia tells Britain’s Radio Times magazine, "Each year we used to go to Chelsea and George would take copious notes and come home with a list of plants he wanted to buy.
"My hope is that this project will be a tribute to the horticultural side of his personality that relatively few people knew about."

RADIOHEAD have hit out at their former record company EMI, angry they can’t stop the label from releasing an album of their greatest hits.
EMI bosses took the decision after the band walked away from their contract to release their last album In Rainbows through new label XL Recordings.
Frontman Thom Yorke is annoyed he will have no control over the EMI album and dismisses it as pointless. He says, "We haven’t really had any hits so what exactly is the purpose (of the greatest hits album)? "There’s nothing we can do about it. The work is really public property now anyway, in my head at least. It’s a wasted opportunity in that if we’d been behind it, and we wanted to do it, then it might have been good".
He also accuses EMI boss Guy Hands of lying to the press - by claiming Radiohead quit the label because it refused the band’s demands for $20 million (GBP10 million). He tells Word magazine, "The idea that we were after so much money (is) stretching the truth to breaking point. That was his PR company briefing against us. I was so angry. It was a clear indication that the relationship was over".

LATEST: METALLICA are moving forward with plans to release their forthcoming album online - starting with the launch of material on their new website on Monday (12May08).
The site, Mission: Metallica, will provide downloads of the band’s latest material, live shows and delivery of the album upon its arrival in stores, although there is no mention of the cost of the service.
The website also includes promises of video footage of the band in the studio, writing songs and the chance to win backstage passes for upcoming concerts.
The untitled album is currently set for release later this year (Sep08) and will mark the band’s ninth studio album and an end to their record deal with Warners.
Metallica will join bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, who have all released their own material online.

Actress SARAH JESSICA PARKER begged her agent to terminate her SEX AND THE CITY contract after signing up for the role.
The star was enjoying life dipping in and out of various New York projects and baulked at the prospect of being tied to a TV show for an entire series.
Her anxiety reached such a critical point, she called her agent in a panic and urged him to talk Sex And The City bosses out of recruiting her.
She says, "I had a wonderful life in New York. I was doing theatre and movies, had plenty of free time and regularly saw my friends - so I was in a panic when I was told that I’d need to be around for regular filming.
"No one could calm me down. I kept thinking, ‘What can I do to escape?’ I’d call my agent, begging, ‘You have to get me out of this. I don’t care what it takes. Even if I’m broke on the street, I can’t do Sex And The City as a series.’" However, she’s relieved she didn’t act on her irrational fears, following the show’s phenomenal success.
She adds, "The result, of course, is that they got me on the set for the first day and I never looked back."

Generous CHARLIE SHEEN and BROOKE MUELLER are refusing to accept gifts at their wedding this month (30May08) - they want guests to make a donation to their favourite charity instead.
Invitations for Sheen and Mueller’s 30 May (08) nuptials include the request "no gifts, just donations to Chrysalis - an organization in Los Angeles that is dedicated to changing lives through jobs", reports the New York Post.
A source tells the newspaper, "Charlie (Sheen) has been working with the group, which gets people off skid row, for many years, and the money will go towards the charity’s big annual gala, the Butterfly Ball." Sheen and Mueller met at a party in early 2006, just after Sheen had separated from his then-wife, Denise Richards. The actor proposed to the real estate agent-turned TV personality last summer (Jul07).
This will be Sheen’s third marriage and Mueller’s first.

Actor GEORGE CLOONEY has vehemently denied reports he launched a bitter attack on socialite PARIS HILTON in a recent U.S. magazine interview.
The Michael Clayton star was said to have slammed the hotel heiress during an interview with America’s Rolling Stone magazine, allegedly calling Hilton a "wannabe" and ridiculing her acting talents.
The star was quoted as saying, "There is a funny thing that happens when you are a young actor. You equate financial success and getting jobs with whether or not you are good at it. "And it still happens. That’s why there is Paris Hilton. Now I’m in trouble with Paris Hilton." But the Hollywood hunk’s representative states the comments were taken out of context, insisting the quips used in the article were not connected. Clooney’s spokesman Stan Rosenfield says, "He made a long joke in between those two quotes. Making fun of himself. Two different statements are being used that were barely connected." Rosenfield adds, "And (they were) certainly not the spirit of the interview."

Nineties rap boyband MARKY MARK AND THE FUNKY BUNCH are set to reunite without their frontman MARK WAHLBERG.
Under the name The Funk Bs, returning original members Scott ‘Great Scott’ Ross, Hector ‘HB’ Barros, Terry ‘DJ -T’ Yancy have recruited new rappers Jaime ‘Avalanche’ Haage, Lola ‘LB’ Frazier, Chad ‘Dragon’ Penney, Dawayne ‘DJ Rareform’ Branco and Michael ‘Yung Piff’ Wilder to launch their comeback.
And despite Wahlberg insisting in October (07) he wanted to reform the group because he "missed performing with the guys", the rapper-turned-actor will not be included in the new line-up.
Funk B star Ross says, "Hector, Terry, and I have had the opportunity to do many wonderful things in and outside of the music industry since the days of (hit single) Good Vibrations. We always knew that we would do another musical venture together. This year it felt like it was the right time to return. The music on our new CD represents the best in world music and the newest members add a great sound and new look to our product!" RUSSELL’s new movie NAILED on Friday (9May08), after producers failed to show they had enough money to pay its cast.
The Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) will keep all castmembers from the movie until the production company shows there is enough money set aside in a union-mandated account.
An on-set source tells the New York Times production on the movie is expected to resume this week (begs12May08).
It’s not the first scandal to strike set of the movie, which was co-written by Al Gore’s daughter Kristin - veteran James Caan quit his cameo role last month (Apr08) after a bust-up with Russell.

THE HILLS star AUDRINA PATRIDGE is set to make her film debut in upcoming movie INTO THE BLUE 2.
Patridge, 22, who is set to play a beach beauty, will be the first from the cast of the reality MTV series to land an acting role in a feature film.

LATEST: UGLY BETTY star VANESSA WILLIAMS graduated from college on Saturday (10May08) with inspiring words for the younger generation of students.
Williams dropped out of Syracuse University - where she studied musical theatre from 1981 to 1983 - to become a model.
She became the first black Miss America in 1983, before being stripped of the title when she posed nude in Penthouse magazine.
The university decided to award Williams the remaining credit necessary for her degree and invited her to a graduation ceremony in New York state.
Taking to the stage, 45-year-old Williams told graduates, "These days are irreplaceable and are the beginning of the rest of your life. Treasure the moment."

Hollywood star NATALIE PORTMAN has dropped out of a forthcoming big-screen adaptation of WUTHERING HEIGHTS over conflicts in her schedule.
The Star Wars actress was set to play the film’s lead role, Cathy Earnshaw, in John Maybury’s take on the classic Emily Bronte novel, but has quit the project in favour of an unknown movie venture.
Portman was slated to appear opposite German actor Michael Fassbender, who will play the iconic Heathcliff in the film.
Movie bosses at Ecosse Films are said to be determined to shoot the movie on schedule and are currently searching for a replacement for Portman.

Family and friends turned out to pay their last respects to late U.S. singer JERRY WALLACE after he passed away last week (begs05May08).
The star - who scored a number one country hit on the U.S. charts in 1972 with If You Leave Me Tonight I’ll Cry - died on Monday (05May08) from congestive heart failure. He was 79.
Funeral services for Wallace were held on Friday (09May08) in Corona, California.
