SCARLETT JOHANSSON has always dreamed of becoming a bride, according to her close friend and designer Roland Mouret.
Mouret, who was photographed with the newly engaged actress on Monday (5May08), insists the 23-year-old has longed for years to marry and settle down.
He tells People.com, "It’s something she’s really wanted - to meet someone and get married. She’s just such a great person and I’m so happy for her and wish her every happiness. She deserves it." And although Johansson helped Mouret make a name for himself when she wore his coral gown to the 2005 Golden Globes, he is adamant he is not the designer selected to create a wedding dress for the bride-to-be: "No, no - it’s not me!" WHITNEY HOUSTON has taken her first step toward a career comeback with a well-received live performance at a charity ball in London.
In a bid to prove she has put her troubles behind her, the singer stepped onto the stage at the Caudwell Children Legends Ball on Thursday evening (08May08), where she wowed the packed venue with her greatest hits.
Wearing a full-length gown decorated with sparkling Chopard diamonds, Houston performed before a host of celebrity guests, including Sir Elton John’s partner, film producer David Furnish.
Furnish says, "I have seen Whitney sing live in New York about 10 years ago or 11 years ago at Sting and Trudie’s Rainforest Party and she was fantastic.
"She hasn’t been doing much live performing since then so I think this is a real coup to get her out and performing live again." And Furnish insists the 44-year-old doesn’t need to prove herself in order to relaunch her career.
He adds, "I think relaunch is the wrong word, I think when you have someone like Whitney who is spectacularly talented, I think they can take as much time off as they want and if they get the right songs they can come back and sell lots of records." Houston has been in the studio with her mentor, music mogul Clive Davis, working on her seventh studio album, due this winter (08).

PARIS HILTON jumped at the chance to make a fresh start with U.S. talk-show host DAVID LETTERMAN - because she has so many products to sell.
The socialite was humiliated when the late-night TV presenter grilled her about her prison stint during an infamous interview after she was released last year (07), prompting Hilton’s vow never to return to the show. But Letterman’s proceeding public apology prompted the heiress to make amends - first returning as a guest on the show in February (08) to promote a new film, before making yet another reprise on Wednesday evening (08May08).
Letterman introduced Hilton as, "A star of television and film, a recording artist, a best-selling author and an entrepreneur." Hilton strut onto the set with a sneer, as Letterman offered further apology for his previous behaviour and politely asked the star what she would like to discuss.
Hilton quickly began pitching a line of hair extensions, clothing for her "model" dogs, her own brand of canned Italian champagne and an upcoming reality show, titled Paris Hilton: My New BFF.
Letterman added, "We went through some bad times when she hated me because I taunted her about being in prison. I made unpleasant remarks about the experience and she didn’t want to talk about it and somehow that’s all I wanted to talk about. And she swore she would never come back. Well by gosh, she’s big enough to put that behind her. She came back a few months ago. I’m delighted this woman is here, and I want to tell you something: when she was angry and vowed never to come back, it probably was my darkest hour." And Hilton seems to have put any bad blood harboured against the host behind her, adding, "It’s good to be back. You’re my favourite."

PARIS HILTON has taken aim at critics who have predicted she’ll ditch the winner of her new reality TV show once filming is over - because she finds it so hard to make new friends.
The socialite will film MTV reality show Paris Hilton’s My New BFF (Best Friend Forever) for six weeks in a Hollywood Hills mansion, putting potential pals to the test in the 10-episode series.
Hilton has been keen to expand her social circle since childhood pal Nicole Richie settled down, after giving birth to daughter Harlow earlier this year (Jan08).
But she insists former partner-in-crime Richie will not be replaced - even though her search is genuine.
She says, "Nicole Richie is my best friend since we were two (sic) so she’s my number one best friend, but on the show I think it will be fun to meet some new people. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’ll remain friends with them.
"We’ve had over 200,000 applicants, which is the most for any show. We’re down to about 35 right now and I’m going to pick 20 out of those. Boys and girls. They’re really nice people.
"They’re really funny. I’m the producer of the show, so obviously I want it to be great television, so we have some pretty interesting characters.
"It’s all about how they handle different situations. We’re going to have different contests and things we do. We’re going to be travelling around to (Las) Vegas and Japan. It’s going to be awesome."

LINDSAY LOHAN has become the target of yet another fashionista, who’s accusing the actress of swiping thousands of dollars’ worth of items from her closet during a party last year (07).
Earlier this month (May08), Lohan was accused of stealing an $11,000 (£5,500) fur coat after it went missing at a New York nightspot back in January (08).
And now 23-year-old Lauren Hastings has come forward alleging the Mean Girls star has a history of hoarding clothes.
Model Hastings - who is currently dating Transformers star Shia LeBeouf claims the incident occurred when she was hosting a party that Lohan attended last spring (07).
She tells U.S
. TV show Inside Edition, "Basically..
. my closets were emptied.
I can be the one person not to let Lindsay get away with this." According to the New York Post, Hastings originally went forward with the story to an entertainment website following the incident, but the model insists she reached out to Lohan first: "I contacted Lindsay and said, ‘Look, I know you stole my clothes.’ She then said I was completely delusional, I was pathetic , I was out of my mind." Los Angeles County prosecutors have declined to press charges against Lohan, citing insufficient evidence of Hastings’ claims.
Retired Deputy Attorney Greg Somes, who reviewed the case last year, says: "There was clothing (Lohan) was entitled to take
. So the issue is if she took clothes she was not entitled to take, and no one can say if she did that or did not." Lohan’s spokesperson has yet to respond to the New York Post report.

BRITNEY SPEARS surprised the contestants of new MTV reality show ROCK THE CRADLE by turning up for the season finale - in support of her former manager LARRY RUDOLPH.
Rudolph is a judge on the hit programme, which sees aspiring pop stars, who have musician parents, compete for their own place in the spotlight.
And Spears - who shot to fame under Rudolph’s management - paid an impromptu visit to the Los Angeles set on Thursday (08May08) to wish her former mentor well, watching the live show from backstage.
Rudolph tells Usmagazine.com, "She was here to support the show. I mentioned to her that I was going to my show. She said, ‘I want to come down.’ She loved it. She really loved it.
"She didn’t come here for publicity or anything like that. She came here because she wanted to see the show, which I appreciated."

ENCHANTED star AMY ADAMS is convinced her life changed when she dyed her hair red - because she never received any major movie roles as a blonde.
The 34-year-old actress spent years playing small parts in films such as 1999’s Drop Dead Gorgeous and 2000’s Cruel Intentions 2.
But Adams shot to international fame after she changed her hair colour, landing starring roles in 2005’s Junebug and last year’s (07) box office smash Enchanted.

SIR CLIFF RICHARD has marked his 50th year in showbusiness by publishing a collection of his top 50 Bible stories for children.
The 67-year-old British singer, a devout Anglican, is adamant all kids should be given the chance to read the holy book, insisting it is "almost criminal" for a child to have never opened the Bible.
The pop star is hoping that his collection, Fifty Favourite Bible Stories, will help revive the dwindling numbers of Christian followers.
He says, "The Church has to remain relevant. Jesus is eternally relevant. The Church isn’t always. We live in a multi-racial, multi-spiritual country. Hollywood heartthrob PATRICK DEMPSEY almost quit acting before he landed his comeback role in hit TV series GREY’S ANATOMY - because he was fed up with losing parts as a result of his dyslexia.
The actor made a name for himself in the 1980s starring in movies like Loverboy and Can’t Buy Me Love, but his career faltered in the 1990s and he found himself constantly looking for his next big role.
But, despite attending numerous auditions, he kept losing out to his contemporaries because his disability left him struggling to easily read scripts.
And the 42-year-old had just given up trying to build a career in Hollywood when he landed the part of surgeon Dr. Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd in medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.
He says, "Because of my dyslexia I had to memorise all the dialogue for auditions. If I forgot it, I would then have to get over my frustration. If you constantly don’t get the part it’s very frustrating."

German rockers PRIMAL FEAR have been forced to scrap a gig in the Czech Republic because frontman RALF SCHEEPERS has lost his voice.
The group was due to play at the Rockfest in Kurim, Czech Republic, on Saturday (10May08).
But they have now pulled the gig as Scheepers has contracted a condition which affects his voice, and has been ordered by doctors not to perform or risk damaging his vocal chords permanently.
An official statement released to Blabbermouth.net says, "To all fans in the Czech Republic. I am very sorry to tell you that I am very ill these days.
Primal Fear can’t do this gig.
"Everyone who knows me also knows that I am never bulls**ting about this topic and you all know that I sing when ever I can even if it’s hard.
"But this time I can’t even speak anymore and the doctor said that I should shut my mouth for 10 days otherwise I will destroy my voice forever!"

An animal trainer on the U.S. set of rapper RICK ROSS’ new video is recovering in hospital, after he was savagely attacked by a tiger.
The big cat, which featured in the background of one of Ross’ scenes for the promo of his new single Here I Am, turned on the unnamed trainer when he tried to coax the fierce creature out of its cage during filming earlier this week (begs05May08).
The tiger’s keeper suffered severe bite wounds to his right leg and was rushed to hospital after the attack.
No one else on set was injured, reports HHNLive.com.

FOO FIGHTERS frontman DAVE GROHL has written an open letter to rockers METALLICA - urging them not to release their new album until it’s "kick-ass".
The Whiskey In The Jar hitmakers are set to release their highly anticipated ninth studio album later this year (08) after a five-year absence from the charts.
And Grohl has written to the band, asking them not to rush the new LP - as he is a huge fan and would be devastated if it didn’t live up to his expectations.
The letter, which has been posted on Blabbermouth.net, reads, "Hey, it’s Dave! Remember me? I’m the guy that’s been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ from a mail order catalogue. But that album changed my life.
"I can’t wait to hear the new s**t, and no matter what you guys do I’ll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I’m sure you’ll come out and blow everybody’s f**kin’ minds, because you’re f**kin’ METALLICA! Good luck. And don’t release it until it’s kick-ass." And the former Nirvana drummer hints that he would love to collaborate on the album, if they haven’t completed it yet.

An assistant allegedly working on behalf of troubled R. KELLY has been accused of bribing a witness in the R&B star’s underage sex case.
The I Believe I Can Fly hitmaker is currently awaiting trial on 14 counts of child pornography, with jury selection due to start on Friday (09May08).
Kelly is accused of filming himself having sex with a minor, who is believed to have been 13 or 14 at the time of the incident.
However, in a new twist in the case, a female witness from Atlanta, Georgia claims she was approached by the star’s aide to hand over a potentially incriminating video tape of Kelly that she owned, in exchange for a hefty pay off.
U.S. newspaper the Chicago Sun-Times reports the tape shows the woman indulging in a three-way sex session with Kelly and the alleged underage victim at the centre of the case.
The assistant is also alleged to have made the offer to the unnamed lady to prevent her testifying against Kelly in his upcoming trial.
But the reported deal has apparently backfired on the aide - the woman has agreed to take to the stand to help the prosecution’s case.
It is expected she will confirm the girl was underage at the time of the indecent act.
