HUCKNALL ‘ATE HIS WEED’
SIMPLY RED star MICK HUCKNALL was so concerned that smoking weed would wreck his voice, he allegedly used to eat it before shows.
Singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines once toured with the band’s frontman in the early 1980s, and admits he was stunned by Hucknall’s way of getting high before shows.
The star, who enjoyed success with his cover of Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes, recalls, "I was on a tour bus in the early 80s with the Simply Red dude, Mick Hucknall, and he really liked his weed.
"But he didn’t want to smoke it and ruin his hitmaking vocal chords, so he ate it.
"He was just chowing down on this big plate of very expensive green (weed).
Meanwhile his band is coming by trying to roll joints from it and he’s not letting them get near it! "Gives new meaning to the term ‘Eat your greens!’"
