ROLLING STONE SIR MICK JAGGER was desperate to land a lead role in controversial film A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, according to the movie’s executive producer.
In a letter from Si Litvinoff to prospective director John Scheslinger in 1968, Litvinoff admitted the rocker was keen to play the part of psychotic killer Alex, which later went to Malcolm McDowell.
In the missive, he also reveals the Beatles were keen to score the 1971 movie.
The letter reads, "This film should break ground in its language, cinematic style and soundtrack (The Beatles love the project and Mick Jagger and David Hemmings have both been keen to play Alex)." Scheslinger later passed up on the film, with the role of director going to Stanley Kubrick. Scheslinger’s letters have been made public after they were donated to the British Film Institute after his death in 2003.

VICTORIA BECKHAM is set to launch legal action against fashion label Rock & Republic over loss of earnings, according to reports.
The former Spice Girl signed a deal with the company in 2004 to make her dVb brand jeans, but split from the firm two years later (06) amid reports of a fall out with owner Michael Ball.
Now Beckham is believed to be filing a lawsuit against Rock & Republic, claiming it owes her up to $100 million (£50 million) in lost earnings, reports British newspaper The Mail On Sunday.
A High Court listing obtained by the paper shows Beckham Brand Ltd, a company established by the singer and her soccer ace husband David, filed a claim against Rock & Republic last month (Apr08).
There are no further details as a claim form has not yet been served on Rock & Republic. However Beckham is reported by the Mail On Sunday to be seeking compensation for lost earnings as the denim range was not as profitable as she was led to believe.
It’s not the first time the dVb range has attracted controversy - last month (Apr08), the owner of Los Angeles boutique Kitson slammed Beckham for failing to promote her denim brand at the store.

LINDSAY LOHAN is set to make a guest appearance on hit U.S. TV series UGLY BETTY.
Rumours surrounding the star’s role in the show emerged last week (ends02May08) and suggested she had signed up to eight episodes of the programme - but Perez Hilton reports the singer/actress will appear in the show’s season finale, after she was photographed on the set of Ugly Betty in Los Angeles on Saturday (03May08).
It follows Britney Spears’ acclaimed performance on sitcom How I Met Your Mother last month (Apr08) - her guest appearance helped the show earn its highest ever ratings, and she will make a return to the sitcom later this month (May08).

JULIE CHRISTIE’s close friend JOHN SCHESLINGER wholly disapproved of her relationship with WARREN BEATTY - and appealed to the actress to end the romance.
The director, who cast Christie in Billy Liar and Darling, wrote to the actress to air his disapproval of the relationship, which lasted from the late 1960s to 1973, when the pair split up.
And Scheslinger felt so protective of Christie, he contacted his friend Peter Harcourt, a film critic, to explain his feelings towards the womanising actor.
The letter, written in 1968, reads, "I’ve caught glimpses of Julie. She’s very much hooked up to Warren Beatty these days and I am not at all sure that this is really good for her future. He seems to get through women like a businessman through a dozen oysters, but one can’t interfere in these matters, even though he has tried his best to do so with her career.
"I’ve written a very lengthy letter to her explaining my feelings and about everything and I’ve never had a reply." Scheslinger’s letters have been made public after they were donated to the British Film Institute after his death in 2003.

A technician working on the new JAMES BOND movie QUANTUM OF SOLACE has been seriously injured - after he was stabbed with a steak knife in a domestic dispute.
The 58-year-old was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood on Saturday (03May08) morning. Police say the man had been attacked by a woman in the bedroom of her house in Dornbirn, Austria, before wrestling the knife from her and staggering into the street, where he was later found.
He is currently recovering in hospital.
The incident is the latest in a string of setbacks on the set of the film just last month (Apr08) a stuntman was seriously injured and the superspy’s iconic Aston Martin had to be fished from Lake Garda, Italy, after it skidded off a narrow road.

CSI star GARY DOURDAN is "embarrassed" by his recent arrest for alleged drug possession.
The actor was apprehended by police after he was found asleep in his incorrectly parked car early on Monday morning (28Apr08) in Palm Springs, California. Cops searched his vehicle, before arresting him on suspicion of possessing heroin, cocaine, Ecstasy and prescription drugs.
Dourdan posted $5,000 (£2,500) bail and was released following the incident.
He tells People.com, "Obviously I am embarrassed to find myself in this situation, and I am profoundly grateful to everyone for their support. I have complete confidence in and respect for the justice system and will cooperate fully with any investigation." On Saturday (03May08), an email from Dourdan to his pal Shaun Robinson was read out on her Access Hollywood show. It read, "Obviously I certainly wish I hadn’t been responsible for so many people getting to the festival’s (California’s Coachella festival) VIP area.
And the after party, it ran me ragged, but I’m glad pulling over did prevent a DUI.
"I am blessed that the Sgt. realized that the luggage carrying whatever they found was not mine and that my tests have been coming back negative." However a spokesperson for the star insists the exchange was not intended for air: "This was a personal text to a friend taken completely out of context."

The nanny who is accusing ROB LOWE and his wife of sexual harassment has been endorsed by reality TV star SHANNA MOAKLER - who has vowed to stand by her.
Laura Boyce, who worked for the Lowe family up until last year (07), has accused Lowe of creating an "extremely sexually offensive and hostile work environment", claiming her former boss regularly paraded around the family home naked and made inappropriate comments of a lewd nature.
She filed papers in Los Angeles on Wednesday (30Apr08) and staged an emotionally-charged press conference with her lawyer Gloria Allred on Thursday (01May08) to address her accusations.
Boyce also childminds for Moakler, who insists the 37-year-old is a good friend.
Moakler tells People.com, "I’ve been friends with Laura for the past ten years - before she was my nanny - and I completely stand by her." The Lowes vehemently deny all accusations levelled at them. A deposition of the actor and his wife has been scheduled for 19 May (08).

Newly reformed boyband BOYZONE have blamed bitter arguments and alcohol for their hasty split almost ten years ago.
In their prime, the Irish group - who split in 2000 - were so exhausted from their hectic schedules, they began to hate one another, and eventually turned to alcohol to help ease their pain.
Boyzone member Shane Lynch, 31, recalls, "I found myself drinking through the day just to find some sort of happiness - but I couldn’t find it. That’s not a good place to be in.
"We hated it, we hated each other and we were overworked." The fivepiece is due to kick off a series of live dates across the U.K. later this month (May08), with the sold-out tour scheduled to begin in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 25 May.

DEAD OR ALIVE star PETE BURNS has split from his civil partner of nine months and now insists gay marriage "doesn’t work".
The singer, 49, married boyfriend Michael Simpson in a civil ceremony last July (07), but is now planning to file for a divorce after alleging his partner was unfaithful.
He says, "There’s a lot of promiscuity in the gay community. I don’t understand why they take that union. How low is their self esteem? "I view marriage as a sacred institution. I think two men naturally are predators. Gay relationships are a commercial break, not a whole movie." And Burns - who was married to stylist Lynne Corlett for 28 years - is adamant he was much happier married to a woman.
He says, "She (Corlett) was the best ‘husband’ I ever had. You sometimes meet a person who you completely love. We’re still really, really close. It’s not about sexuality, it’s about the person." KANYE WEST stormed off stage at a gig in Houston, Texas, after a technical glitch threatened his performance.
The Touch The Sky rapper was playing a concert at the city’s Woodlands Pavilion on Friday (02May08) when side screens at the venue, which were supposed to show West, failed to work.
Mid-performance, he shouted, "Turn the f**king screens off," before stopping the show and exclaiming, "If the s**t’s not working just turn it off," and storming off, reports celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
However West then re-emerged and finished his set.

Teen sensation MILEY CYRUS stepped on to the stage this weekend (begs03May08) for the first time since her controversial Vanity Fair portrait was revealed.
The Hannah Montana star has kept a low profile since sparking outrage this week (begs28Apr08) for the provocative photoshoot - even pulling out of a public appearance at a Disney Channel Games media party in Orlando, Florida on Friday (02May08).
But the 15-year-old seemed to be in good spirits as she made her return to the spotlight at a Saturday (03May08) concert for the Disney Channel.
She kicked off her performance with her hit song See You Again and even debuted two new songs, Fly on the Wall and Breakout, off her forthcoming album, expected for release in July (08).

Rocker BOB GELDOF’s daughter PEACHES is to be quizzed by police after she was caught on tape buying drugs from AMY WINEHOUSE’s alleged dealer. In the clip, captured by a hidden video camera, Geldof, 19, can apparently be seen handing a man and woman $280 (£140) in cash and being told by the man the deal will cost her $380 (£190).
She then agrees to the amount and tells the couple, "I’m going to need Valium tomorrow after this." According to reports, the tape was seized by authorities as part of an investigation into the drug-dealing pair, Jonny Blagrove and Cara Burton, who police believe are running a celebrity drugs empire.
The clip is reported to have been shot the day before Blagrove recorded footage of singer Amy Winehouse allegedly smoking crack cocaine at her home, which hit headlines after it surfaced earlier this year (Jan08).
A police source tells British newspaper the News of the World, "She will be interviewed some time this week and asked to explain what is happening in the video and why she is handing money over to the couple.
"It is all part of a large investigation into alleged drugs dealing." It is not the first time the teen has been caught up in controversy. She was accused of shoplifting in October 2006 and caused a stir again last month (20Apr08) when she was blamed for stealing an expensive gown from London store Victim.

Troubled R&B star R.KELLY has been hit with another setback in his underage sex case - a new witness is set to testify she had sex with the star and an underage girl.
The I Believe I Can Fly hitmaker is currently awaiting trial on 14 counts of child pornography, with proceedings due to start in May (08).
Kelly is accused of filming himself having sex with an underage girl, who is believed to have been 13 or 14 at the time of the assault.
But reports now claim a new witness has come forward to testify against the star, claiming she enjoyed a threesome with the singer and the teenager at the centre of the case. It is expected the woman will confirm the girl was underage at the time of the act.
