A Bahamian church minister has confirmed reports singer MARIAH CAREY has wed her short-time beau NICK CANNON, claiming he presided over their nuptials.
Bishop Clifford Petty, who oversees most wedding ceremonies in the Bahamas region, confirmed to U.S. publication People.com the reports were true and states he was the one who performed the union and gave a sermon.
Although Petty confirmed the ceremony took place, he has offered no further details about the couple’s wedding.
The singer, 38, reportedly wed Cannon, 27, at her home in the Bahamas on Wednesday (30Apr08). Rumours of an engagement started last month (Apr08) after the pop diva was spotted wearing a diamond and platinum ring on her wedding finger at New York’s TriBeCa Film Festival.
The pair have been dating since they teamed up on a new video in March (08).
Although members of rapper/actor Cannon’s family have also confirmed the spontaneous marriage, neither the couple or their publicists have spoke out about the reports.

Security around KATE HUDSON’s latest movie BRIDE WARS is on high-alert after a man allegedly expressed an "unhealthy interest" in the actress, according to reports.
Neil Bergman of Whitefield, New Hampshire, was arraigned last week (begs28Apr08) on burglary charges in Boston Municipal Court, in Massachusetts, and sent away for a 30-day mental evaluation, reports the Boston Herald.
Sources claim that after the 44-year-old was apprehended, he ranted to cops about Hudson and her mother, actress Goldie Hawn, causing authorities to warn the actress’ security detail about Bergman.
Elaine Driscoll, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department, says, "This suspect made statements to the arresting officers that indicated the individual had an unhealthy interest in Kate Hudson. As a matter of caution, we alerted her security." Police supposedly found two axes, computer equipment, outdoor flower pots, an Elvis plate, a Christmas tree and women’s clothing in Bergman’s 2000 Honda Civic.

A U.S. restaurant/liquor group are using LINDSAY LOHAN’S mug shot to launch a campaign against new technology aimed at keeping intoxicated drivers off the road.
The American Beverage Institute (ABI), a restaurant trade association which promotes responsible alcohol consumption, has taken out a full-page ad in American newspaper USA Today featuring the troubled star’s photo, taken after she was arrested in Los Angeles last year (07) for driving drunk.
A caption reads: "Ignition interlocks. A good idea for:" (Lohan) "But a bad idea for us:" displaying pictures of adults enjoying alcohol at restaurants and weddings.
The ad claims ignition interlocks, devices which prevent drunks from starting their cars, are "a great tool for getting hard-core drunk drivers off our roads" - but if the technology is installed in every vehicle, it could mean "an end to moderate and responsible drinking prior to driving." Blair Berk, Lohan’s lawyer, says the 21-year-old "fully endorses ignition interlock devices".
The ABI says it plans to use mug shots of other stars arrested for driving under the influence in its ongoing campaign, but did not specify details.

Actress ANGELA BASSETT has signed up to join the cast of hit U.S. medical drama ER.
The What’s Love Got To Do With It actress will star in the Emmy award-winning drama’s 15th and final season - the first time the Oscar-nominated star has committed to a full-time TV part.
Bassett will play a troubled physician who goes back to Chicago, Illinois after years in Indonesia helping the country’s medics deal with the aftermath of 2004’s tsunami.
In addition, original cast member Noah Wyle will return to his role as Dr John Carter for four episodes. Wyle left the long-running drama in 2005 at the end of season 11.

Super producer MARK RONSON has scrapped plans to record a theme song for the forthcoming JAMES BOND film, because collaborator AMY WINEHOUSE isn’t fit enough to focus on music.
Last month (Apr08), Ronson confirmed he had started work on a track for the superspy’s latest outing, and had roped in the Black To Black star to lay down her vocal talents in his studio in Oxford, England.
But the celebrated DJ has hit out at the star’s recent return to erratic behaviour, insisting troubled Winehouse is simply not "ready" to work on music while she has still not dealt with her demons.
And Ronson believes Quantum Of Solace bosses will have to hire other musicians to come up with the movie’s title track, claiming it would be a "miracle" if he and Amy ever completed their joint effort.
He explains, "We did work on it (Bond theme) but we never finished it. I don’t think it will happen unless by some miracle it gets recorded and someone sings on it.
Ronson adds, "I’m not sure Amy is ready to work on music yet." However, a representative for the troubled singer refutes Ronson’s claims that the fruitless recording session was down to Winehouse’s hellraising ways, blaming it on the pair envisioning different directions for the venture.
The spokesperson says, "Mark presented a track to Amy, but she had other ideas about the direction it should take. We’re sure they will continue to make great music together."

Stewart was accused of throwing bricks and other items at the couple’s car after he was refused entry to the bash.
Ericka Stein claimed she needed medical treatment for "massive lacerations" she was left with after the attack.
In court on Friday, the prosecutor in the case said, "The People announce they are unable to proceed on this matter."

Movie star HARRISON FORD refuses to take part in movies with messages - because he fears they’re not entertaining enough.
The actor is among the top five box office draws in the world and insists that’s partly because he makes sure all of his film projects are potential big hits.
He tells the new issue of U.S. magazine Cowboys & Indians, "I think that you’re obliged to offer entertainment - that people go to films to be entertained, not to be instructed.
"Films that are instructional, if you will, are just not as successful as movie experiences. And there are probably other places where opinion can be affected more substantially.
"I like the kinds of films that I do. My sense of it is that this is a service occupation. We are storytellers.
"Movies are so expensive these days, you not only have to tell your story well but you have to tell a story that people around the campfire want to hear.
It’s always been that way."
